I have a feeling about a friend of my son's and his brother who was at the house a lot. I don't think they had much to eat at their house because they were always amazed at how much food I kept in the house.
When I was a kid, there were houses where all the kids gathered at but it was mostly because the parents didn't care if the kids smoked and drank at their house 😬 The parents would say that they preferred that the kids did it in a safe place and not on the streets. Harsh reality.
My kids and there friends were always at our house too. I loved it as well because I knew where there were at all times. Love your video’s. Can you please start writing out your recipes? Thanks
Creating memories. As a young teen I fed all the neighborhood kids cause my 8 year old nephew would offer all of them lunch. I fed them hot dogs one day and they complained that I don’t makem like their mom. I said “ We’ll, go home then.” I was a sarcastic 12 year old. 😅😂
Haha, perfect response. The first time my mom cooked for my (half) siblings when she wasn’t married to my dad yet, they complained that it wasn’t how their mom made it. My mom was like “okay? Im not your mom. At least try it.” Turns out they ended up liking my mom’s cooking better anyway 🤭
Lolll I love this so much, especially the ending. My mom didn't mention it until I was good & grown, but I'm her only kid and I'd invite the whole neighborhood over to eat our food. She eventually started making frozen treats for everyone and became "the candy lady" of the community...but I had no idea. I just knew we had enough so why not share. 🥰🥰
My Mom was the neighborhood mom. All of my friends loved her and she was a great cook! I was so proud to have the Mother that I had. She’s in Heaven now and I’m sure she watches over me.
Thank you so much! I was one of those kids that was always at their friends house because I was alone. My mom would be working and I was the only child. it gets lonely. You're amazing
My fiance was part of a friend group that had a mom like you. He and his friends still discuss how good the food was and how thoughtful she was to provide a place to socialize and have lovely meals. You will be remembered fondly for many, many years!
You're so right that having them around your home is peace of mind when it comes to teenagers. Hope you give us more ideas and recipes on how to feed a troop of hungry teens this summer.
Always felt that way, I don’t believe in sending kids for sleep overs either, used to have them at my house instead, most times ur kids gets hurt n not theirs.
I used to say the same things at least my kids are home. But baby i had 7 children you know how many friends was in my house everyday. They are all grown now with kids of their own and friday im going over to one of my son's house to cook for my kids, grandkids and all there friends Late father day BBQ from Mom. I love it 🤷🏾♀️🙏🏾💯❤️👍🏾
That was my house growing up and my house as a mom! I always felt better knowing where my daughters were! My most request was homemade waffles! Whenever I talk to my daughters’ friends now (who are all adults in their 40s) they talk about how much they loved coming over & our house was always safe! It warms my heart!
Exactly our thoughts, too. I fed more kids that I can count. We knew where they were, we knew what they were doing. Many times, the moms or catetaker sent along treats or other snacks.
My mom was 100% the same way when we were younger, all the neighborhood kids would call her “mom” too. Her logic was the same, if everyone was at our house, she could make sure we were all safe and fed💚
Thank you for having a safe place for the children to have fun safely and eat delicious yummy food ❤. I did the same for years and loved it for all the same reasons and having children just roaming the streets or house to house is not safe unfortunately 😢. I was a nurse so anytime anyone had any injuries or illnesses they popped by to get help. So fun hangout with food that had an urgent care in it was appreciated by all.
My mom also does this. I think that all parents should do this so we can have fun and hang out with friends for a bit and I think that food looks so good😊
Lovely. It brought back memories. We bought a vw combi to transport my teens as they travelled in a pack. When my hubby died I continued to fetch and carry and I knew they were safe. On our equivalent of prom night I drove around Cape Town after the after party until 5am. I miss those days with them all being on the other side of 35 now.
My mom did this when we were kids. Unfortunately, I can't afford to do this. Which breaks my heart? I can barely even afford to feed my daughter and I. But God bless you for what you were doing in. Letting those kids be in a stable environment with something fun and active to do with great food to eat much respect.
I can’t wait until my house, is that house. Growing up my house, was that house and I know it made my mother have not only peace of mind but the joy kids bring!
Same here. I was so happy to see and feed all my son’s friends as long as I know they were safe and I knew where they were. ❤❤ Enjoy time goes so quickly, they’re all in their 30’s now. 💙💙
When our kids were little we used to have all their neighborhood friends over because we have a bigger back yard (by far) than anyone else here. We don't have a pool, but we'd have sprinklers going, we had a wooden climbing fort, we would set up tents for the kids to play / sleep in, we'd have light saber fights, water pistol fights, we'd cook hot dogs and make homemade ice cream, etc. Our kids have SO many fun memories from those years.
In our last neighborhood we were the house for the neighborhood kids to come hang out. Their mom's would come over and I would set up snacks and crafts for all the kids. We also had big outdoor toys and the big splash pad from Costco. It was great having everyone over.
Exactly how my house was raising my children. Knowing where my children were and they were safe, was a blessing to me. You’re a wonderful example of parenting. Mahalo ~
My house for years was the house all the kids came to and stayed the night, I loved it!! We have fires at night, cooked out on grill almost daily, it was truly a blast!!! My kiddos are older now, the only 1 left at home is a home body and only goes to 2 friends houses.
I agree, m house was the hang-out. I was able to see what my kids were up to and also knew about the crowd they hung with. Worked out well, they’re all grown men and I still have a few around that never left.
So awesome! I wish my house was that kind of house. Mine was growing up also! We had a cool pool and hot tub, and a that giant island float! All the kids came over all the time. And we were in San Diego!? (The best place). Coulda just went to the beach. It was so memorable and fun! I’m sad I can’t provide that for my kids now. I definitely don’t have the life I grew up with. Sadly. Don’t even live there anymore. Can’t afford it.
I did exactly the same thing I had the entire team come over had the campout so we had over half acre and had campouts in the backyard I was a strange mom and I play monster music late at night to scare them. What fabulous memories loved it always always.❤ I wish they were still small and not in their mid to late 20s.
Yes! My grandson always has friends over, they all began in Pop Warners football 🏈. They have stayed friends and are always with each other. It is a pleasure to have these boys over. Great kids and friends with each other.
The pasta it's called 'anellini' or 'anelletti' ( means little rings). In Sicily they make a typical Sunday dish with grilled or fried eggplants filled with anellini ,ragù, ham, mozzarella , parmigiano, etc and baked . Obviously it's not a light meal, but it's worth a try😊
Plus, those children obviously feel safe and welcomed. So, if they were being mistreated/neglected or going through some other crisis, they would probably go to you for guidance/help.
That’s right Mom! That’s what I did with my daughter. I would give Mom’s a break and have the girls at my house and let them cook and bake, as long as they cleaned up too 🤣🙏🏼 it’s the best way to know where your child is and that they’re having safe fun. 😎👍🏼
Mom had 9 of us. One evening we were all on the floor watching TV and eating popcorn. She was counting and noticed 13 kids. Mom had just noticed that our four friends were always at our home bc they had parents who were never home, or were drunk. Often one of the Dads gave my Mom a 20 dollar bill for feeding his kids. RIP Mom. We will never forget your kindness and endless energy. And never complained, wow.
Out house was like this as a kid and then our house was the gathering place when I was raising my children. I felt the same way as you. If everyone gathered at my house, then I knew where my children were at and they were safe. I didn't mind feeding a ton of teenagers. My daughter was in the band and was a cheerleader, so every Friday night, our living room had girls lined up in sleeping bags and I loved it.
My mom was like that but she didn't cook. She said that it gave her peace of mind to know where we were at, and she kept an eye on my friends too. For some reason, some of my friends would run away from their homes. My mom said she'd rather them stay there with us instead of dead. Sadly, one of my friends (she didn't want to stay because her mom knew my mom and where we lived, and she didn't want to run the risk of getting caught) She was murdered. She came to my house to visit me, and that was the last time i saw her alive. I never knew what happened to her. I was looking for her for over ten years. Finally, in 2012, I found out what happened to her. I was shocked for days 😢.
I love my kids’ friends and families. And our friends we’ve had for so many years ARE family to us. I also love to feed them, and our outdoor fridge and freezer is usually stocked with ice cream, drinks, protein shakes, and lunch meats for sandwiches. But the fave is FULLY LOADED RAMEN. LOL.
I was a neighborhood mom too. Loved hearing all the shouting and laughter, and we kept a cooler with cold water and drinks outside for the swimmers and basketball hopefuls.
That was our house when our kids were teens. We loved knowing where they were and who they were with. They are all grown now but we’re still close to them. They still talk about the times we made them feel like they mattered.
We had certain homes we went to from grade to adulthood.. And it was all yr long for us. We didn’t have a pool but we did have the faithful fire hydrants 😂😂❤. Until someone comes out screaming to turn it off because either it was flooding their basements. Or because of the water pressures 😂😂LOVED IT!
My parents only let me have one friend come over once a week when I was in high school . It was super frustrating, but they didn’t want noise in the house. All of my friends had strict parents like mine and when we went to college we didn’t really want to come Home. It sounds nice that she enjoys so much company in her home with her kids.
W have a pool and raised our 3 sons here. All their friends and neighborhood kids were always here and their best friends would spend the night and sometimes the whole weekend here. It was a nice break for their parents and they’d have ours for a night. This was in the 90’s when we hadn’t heard of transgender, CRT, DEI etc and our boys were safe. We were good friends with their friends’ parents. We didm’t allow them to spend the night if we didn’t know the parents.
The pasta is called “Anelletti”. It is Italian for “Rings/ Little Rings”. This is commonly used for making home made “Spaghetti O’s” you can find this type of pasta in your local Italian market!
My home was also the gathering house. I loved it. Just like you the peace of mind, the kids are safe. I had to pull out the paper/plastic cups come summer. Otherwise I would have to gather my good cups everyday😂. ❤
Exactly, if they’re all at my house I know what’s going on. I love when my kids’ friends come over. I have a snack cabinet they all know they are welcome to have anything out of and if they’re hungry, I feed them!
This reminds me about an instagram post about parents contributing to the expenses that come with playdates. My house used to be the party house, till I got fed up. I felt abused
I rarely bother making a roux these days. I find that using evaporated milk gives me the thickness I need for Mac and cheese, quiches, and other casseroles.
My parents spent the money to enclose the patio and bought a pool table. It was very planned that we would have a teen cave so we were not running the hard city streets. We were the hang out house. Lots of good memories and you will have them too.
Thanks for letting us stay Det free and keeping our homes clean all day. Nothing like not having a grocery bill and power bill for he loves his big bath tub.
Very nice-of course, maybe add a vegetable and protein because Mac and cheese is not a MEAL, but a side. Grabbing a cutie and baby carrots is not plating it up as part of the meal. They will certainly remember you fondly, and being the mom with the pool does ensure you’re the “meet up” spot that will be reminisced for years. Good job mom!
This was my house and I feel the same way, I know my son is safe bc he's at home! And I didn't mind feeding the kids because if I didn't they wouldn't get a good meal until they were picked up by their mom late at night since they were at the grandparents house which the grandfather wasn't in the best shape.
My mom did this. We found out years later that for 2 of my friends, what they ate at our house was their only meal of the day.
Artimus, that had to hurt something awful when you found that out! Did you share that your mom? Doug
So sad… I’m glad your mother was there for them ❤ that truly is the definition of a Mother’s love
Used to have friends who never eat in school, they only ate when school gave out free meals
THIS IS THE VERY REASON I FED KIDS WEN THEY CAME TO MY HOUSE..U JUST NEVER KNO
I have a feeling about a friend of my son's and his brother who was at the house a lot. I don't think they had much to eat at their house because they were always amazed at how much food I kept in the house.
When she said she'd rather have everyone at her house bc she'll know where her kids at, that seemed to summarize every parent's sentiment
Literally said yep worth the money

aww may your absolutely awesome mom rest in peace ❤️💔🤍🕊️
Sorry for your loss. I miss mines all the time

I’m sure your house is a core memory for them and when they tell their childhood stories you are a part of that. I bet they miss you too.

The name of the pasta is Anellini
Thanks for letting me know
Anal-lini..😛.
Round holes🥴.

Very tasteless.

That is so true!!!! Our house was that way and when the kids come back from college now it’s still the safe space they all come and hangout at!!!!!
Super cool mom
My mom did this for my friends and I, still does whenever I’m home. Everyone still calls her mom or mama ❤

Thanks for letting us stay Det free and keeping our homes clean all day. Nothing like not having a grocery bill and power bill for he loves his big bath tub.
You have the Block home! ❤ Love it!
Highly recommend to add cream cheese to the Mac n cheese, makes it very creamy and yummy.
You created a safe space for those babies ❤ god bless you mama! I love your cooking vids!!!
Reminds me of our house growing up! My mom fed the whole neighborhood!
Best kind of neighbors ever
Those kids will remember you as that nice lady from their childhood!
