Their earlier stuff is heavily j-rock influenced, this particular trilogy of “Scream”, “Boca”, and “Odd Eye” played around a lot with genre expectations and were really just really great (in my opinion, of course). Their first storyline for their title tracks is also fantastic and is called the “Nightmare” series. A lot of metal, hard rock, j-rock influences in those releases.
I’m a huge metalhead as well and a fan of most of the groups you react to here, so I’m so happy Dreamcatcher brought me to your channel and there’s definitely something for everyone, metalheads and non-metalheads alike, to love about these girls. Dreamcatcher is basically their own genre at this point. Their earlier stuff is much more traditionally rock-heavy, their Japanese releases are really metal, and their three most recent title tracks form an ongoing trilogy with a broader rock fusion sound, but either way their sound is truly distinct. Literally nobody does it like Dreamcatcher. Welcome to the most interesting sound in K-pop, my dude. Don't forget to check out their B-sides, too, their range is absolutely bonkers and covers everything from EDM to early 2000s rock to funky R&B-style pop to smooth jazz (seriously, they have a track called Jazz Bar that's literally jazz).

“It adds value” Yass! Almost every kpop group has a designated rapper but I feel a rap breakdown isn’t always necessary in a song but unfortunately many kpop songs are like that esp older kpop. But with DC I never feel like the rap parts feel out of place, it flows very well and main rapper Dami (Gahyeon and Sua also rap) is legit, not just a member assigned to rap. And fortunately, if a song doesn’t have a rap part Dami can also sing.

I LOVE watching people discover Dreamcatcher, allot of people have this idea of what Kpop is in their heads and 99% of the time they are right about what it sounds like until they discover Dreamcatcher, they deviate from the "normal" Kpop sound and people just fall in love with them. @@leviberg2377 I agree, around DDDD Blackpink was absolutely fantastic at just smashing people's preconceived notions of kpop.
There might not be so many groups that are as "different" as Dreamcatcher (even though Dreamcatcher isn't wholly original, it's heavily based on jrock and hard rock). But you're right, even just girl groups are wildly different now. Some follow certain trends but I think you gave a shout to some of the ... most different ones. Nature, 3YE, hell even though I wasn't the biggest fan cignature did some really interesting stuff last year.

a lot of dreamcatcher's older songs(chase me, you and I, what, etc) have more of a rock influence, as do their japanese(endless night) releases. more recently they have integrated more pop genres like edm(scream) and reggaeton(boca) into their title tracks. however a lot of their b-sides are non-rock and are musically very interesting. dreamcatcher makes 'special clips' which are essentially lower budget videos for many of their b-sides. one you should check out is 'red sun'.

Another girl group with a lot of rock and J-rock (but not metal) sound is Gfriend. Their last two releases have also had a lot of retro inspired songs. Their vocals and dance synchronization are phenomenal. From them I recommend "Time for the Moon Night", "Sunrise", "Crossroads", "Apple" and "Mago".
Another group you may like is (G)I-DLE (G is silent, pronounced like "idol"). They have a lot of dark brooding songs. I recommend checking out "Hwaa", "Oh My God", "Lion" and "Hann".
Another very interesting group is Red Velvet. They have two sides to their music, Red: bright, colorful and zany; and Velvet: sultry and seductive. Very interesting to see the contrasr between their songs. I recommend "Psycho", "Bad Boy", "Dumb Dumb", "Russian Roulette", "Peek-A-Boo" and "Automatic".
Twice is another very popular group and have more of a dance vibe. "I Can't Stop Me", "Fancy" and "Cry for Me" are recent tracks of theirs that I thoroughly enjoy.
For some fun and cutesy kind of jams I recommend Cherry Bullet "Love So Sweet" and Weeekly "Tag Me".
There are also a lot of great solo artists as well. Sunmi "Pporappippam", Chung Ha "Dream of You" and Yukika "Soul Lady" are some of my fav songs.

I haven’t been their fan for too long, I only found them with Deja Vu, but it’s amazing to see them grow. They’re the only kpop group doing what they do, so they’ve experimented a bit, half probably because they can, and half maybe trying to find their own sound.
I adored Deja Vu, but it always felt like a Within Temptation song in kpop. Scream was amazing, but it felt very anime/game theme. Boca was near perfection, but to me it felt way more kpop than their other stuff. This song, Odd Eye, is, to me, Dreamcatcher. I can’t wait to see what they’ll come with next.

The first time I heard the impact of Dami's rap was on their debut song, Chase Me. They release the instrumentals to their title tracks every time (except one). When I first listened to the Chase Me instrumentals, it became so apparent that her rap verse depended a lot on her own vocal phrasing. It was a buildup moment in the song and it wasn't because of the instrumentals, it was the way Dami built the tension vocally in her rap verse. I can definitely hear that happening again in Odd Eye!
Edit: oh, on your own time, I think it'll be interesting for you to listen to the instrumentals. If you do decide to continue your dive into more Dreamcatcher, I hope you'd listen to each whole album (they're all EPs except for one full album) including intros because their album intros are always Something.

I do like these more technical reactions - as a listener, we intuitively know the song and music video is an absolute banger, but actually learning about music and understanding what is going on in the different layers to build up the levels of hype is great especially the first verse -> prechorus -> chorus).
It honestly reminds me of many, many years ago discovering Nightwish and Rammstein for the first time - you can see their growth and progression throughout their many albums as they retain their signature sound but get more and more experimental and ambitious with their music.
You should know there are two hidden members to Dreamcatcher - LEEZ and Ollounder: they have handled the music production, composing, arrangements, and instruments for the majority of Dreamcatcher's songs (and other groups like Ateez) I believe - I think that's why there is so much consistency between songs compared to other K-Pop groups.
Honestly from here, it's a choose-your-own-musical-adventure - what genre do you like? because dreamcatcher have probably done it all (and combinations of them):
    - Rock
    - Metal (one of their Jap releases)
    - R&B
    - Ballad
    - EDM
    - Drumstep
    - Psytrance
    - Funk
    - Jazz
    - Electro house
    - Raggae
    - Trap
*grabbing the genre names from "who has the most diverse discography? by kpop stuffs" but this has snippets of songs which could be spoilers :D

Dreamcatcher is an underrated group, more popular outside of Korea.
So when someone new arrives we welcome them with open arms, this group deserves much more love because they are really talented.
Since 2008 I started listening to Kpop, and I had not met such a diverse group in their music. If you see their B-Sides you will realize that they play many genres.

    "Dreamcatcher doing Dreamcatcher things"
    Facts!
You've been my favourite Band-Maid reactor, and now you're continuing Dreamcatcher reactions... All their title tracks have rock elements, which is very unique in K-pop. Love it!! Thanks!!
Their older songs tend to have more rock elements nearly throughout the songs. And they tend to have a storyline continuation for the songs if you're interested about that. But doesn't really matter though. The instrumentals in the songs are what's interesting here.
Here are the Dreamcatcher title tracks from debut to help you. The storyline series are in this order:
    Nightmare series:
    Chase Me (Debut)
Goodnight (immediate continuation from Chase Me)
Flyhigh (Prequel; shows how the girls became who they are in Chase Me. But I suggest watching Chase Me first due to it being their Debut)
    You & I
    What
Piri (Official end to the nightmare series)
Releases in collaboration with online game company:
    Deja vu (Game: King's Raid)
R.o.S.E Blue (Game: Girl Gun Cafe)
    Japanese releases:
    Breaking out
(some say it's an alternate ending for nightmare series)
    Endless Night
    No More
Eclipse (King's Raid anime season2 ost)
    Dystopia series: (Trilogy)
    Part 1: Scream
    Part 2: Boca
    Part 3: Odd Eye

    1) Chase me & Good Night - first 2 title tracks which were really dark and heavy j-rock inspired
    2) Fly High, You And I, What, Piri - still inspired by j-rock, but just a little bit lighter and as a lot of people were saying "more pleasing for a non-fans to hear"
    3) Deja Vu was kinda a transition from old Dreamcatcher style to new one
    4) Scream, Boca and Odd Eye - is new sound. They mix a lot of genres, but still keep a DC sound which you can recognize easily.
You really can see their grow as an artist if you listen to them in order :)
p.s - not an "official" explanation, just my thoughts lol

If you’re looking for more, I’m sure you’ve gotten lots of recommendations already tho 😅, their debut song was Chase Me. Which is still one of my favourites debut in kpop.
Another point with Dreamcatcher that people miss is their b-sides! Some they have “homemade mvs” such as Break the Wall or Sahara, not necessarily to react to (just shits and giggles and the members being silly)🙃, my favourite b-sides are Mayday or Tension tho!

Their earlier catalog is more rock influenced. The musicality is just as complex but you might be spending more time placing instruments and effects in the newer stuff. This group is unique to me because the music and instruments work with the group instead of hanging in the background.

Interestingly you have now watched the end of their two series, Odd Eye is the end of the Dystopia series - Scream and Boca are pt. 1 and 2 - while PIRI is the end of the Nightmare series which goes: Chase me | Good Night | Fly High | You and I | What | PIRI
If you're interested in something a bit different, Deja Vu is a rock ballad (and my fave song!!!) It's a collab with a mobile game so it's a standalone story.

Their production duo are absolute beasts and I'm so digging that you pointed all of that out. Also that you paused to talk about the rap on that incredible shot of Handong *chefs kiss* Glad to see you're enjoying Dreamcatcher still!
There's 2 'main' series - Nightmare series (broken into 2 arcs) and the Dystopia series. As others pointed out, the Nightmare series takes way more influence from j-rock, while Dystopia is playing around with sounds and genres.
Nightmare series: Chase Me, Good Night (I still think it's a crime that the gorgeous tutting sequence at the start didn't make it into the MV), Fly High (it's a 'prequel' so the sound is a lot more pop), You & I, What, Piri. (There's an additional Japanese release called Breaking Out, but those are kind of a no-go on reactions just because they tend to get blocked or copyright struck)
Dystopia series: Scream (heavy EDM influences), Boca (Moombahton mixed with rock - that shouldn't work, but they pull it off), and Odd Eye (nu-metal/cyberpunk)
'Other' MVs: Deja Vu, R.o.S.E Blue - both of these are OSTs and collaborations with mobile games. Deja Vu is a full-fledged track on its own with choreography and promotions. Rose Blue was not produced by Leez & Ollounder (Dreamcatcher's main production/songwriting/composing duo) so it's got a different kind of sound and was not promoted.
B-sides: Red Sun (house trap with a gothic witch vibe), Mayday (the special clip they made is with fans playing the instruments behind them), Wonderland (R&B), Sleep-walking (rock/pop), And there was no one left (sort of... trappy R&B?? I guess?), July 7th (reggae - no I'm not joking lol), Break the Wall (power ballad, the self-made MV is *hilarious* though - they literally act out the lyrics & there's lots of puns), Sahara (rock & again a self-made MV with them literally acting out the lyrics), Black or White (very classic MJ-style pop), Lullaby (ballad), Full Moon (rock sound, is a fan-dedicated track)
Covers: Lucky Strike, There's Nothing Holding Me Back, That's What Makes You Beautiful, 2002 (Yoohyeon solo), Faded (Siyeon solo)

Fantastic review! Welcome to the Dreamworld! 💕 looking forward to more reviews from you. You earned a sub from me.
This is the third part of their Dystopia trilogy. The first one is Scream that talks about online hate (POV is the receiving end of said hate), the next is BOCA (Spanish for mouth, talks about the girls being our warriors against said hate and hurtful words).
Excited for you to also dive in to the Nightmare series. Chronologically the debut title track is Chase Me, but the MVs tell a continuous story of sorts. Makes sense if viewed in this order:
Fly High > Chase Me > Good Night > You and I > What > Piri (alternate ending is Breaking Out).

As other's have said their earlier music is more rock based while later tracks kind of fuse genres with rock. They also have Japanese releases which are very rock and metal focused. Their B-sides are a bit more varied and they've done special clips for a lot of them. In all you really can't go wrong with any video you choose.

Funnily enough, you've reacted to the ending of both Era's of Dreamcatcher.
The Nightmare series ended with PIRI (EP: The End of Nightmare) and the Dystopia series ended with Odd Eye (EP: Road to Utopia).
We have Deja Vu, a non related MV, storywise, to those series. Maybe you can react to that one. It's on the #1 spot for many InSomnias.
    OR
You can consider reacting to the whole Dystopia series, starting with Scream, then BOCA. An era with more electronic influence in their music. Whereas the Nightmare series are more j-rock and metal inspired.

"Scream" and "BOCA", part 1 and 2 of the Dystopia triad, will probably be the best place to go now that you've reacted to part 3 (Odd Eye). Trance-y instrumentals with some guitar licks and fun triplet chugs during the hook/chorus in "Scream" whilst "BOCA" is an intriguing mix of Rock with Moombahton.
    Otherwise, you can definitely start your journey off by going through all of their title tracks in release order;
2017: Chase Me, Good Night, Fly High
    2018: You and I, What
2019: Breaking Out [Japanese release], Deja Vu
2020: Endless Night, No More [Japanese releases] (a lot of classic Hard Rock / Metal motifs in these two)
"Chase Me" through to "You and I" are very J-Rock influenced, as you might have seen other comments mention. "What" is a high energy track where they started to switch up their sound into a different Rock sub-genre. Not the best received apparently, but it's very high on my personal list of favourite DC songs. "Deja Vu" is a big InSomnia favourite. Overall a "slower" track but very operatic and theatrical, partly due to the nature of the collaboration with an indie game developer.
There is lore and an interconnected narrative running through the releases, from "Chase Me" though to "Piri" (potentially "Breaking Out" included, but I personally consider it as more of a loosely connected coda). Diving into that is entirely up to you since there isn't so much a definite explanation of a plot, but rather a string of widely accepted theories created within the community.

The group has 3 official rappers but they rarely overdo it with the rapping and lately the other vocalists have been shining a lot more than at the beginning. They recently had a live online concert where they performed most of their songs till Boca with a live band made up of fans. You have already checked out the endings of both the storylines so you could either start with their debut Chase Me or with Scream which is the first part of dystopia trilogy. You can also find the instrumentals of their title tracks on their albums on spotify if you want to check them out.

One thing that this song stands out for in the energetic pre chorus. They usually go for a more quiet, more mellow pre chorus so when the chorus comes, it hits you in full blow. This was a nice change and I love it when their producers get experimental. They always bring a new feel and incorporate different genres while staying true to their authentic rock sound.
