    Great video, thanks! I think some people don’t seem to understand that as you’re using the C-rig to map out the bottom of a pond you can also catch a lot of fish while you’re doing it. One of the biggest fish I’ve ever hooked was on a C-rig, 2nd cast of the day. Unfortunately he got off after a few jumps showed me just how big that thing was!

    Up here in Canada I used to carry around what I called a "scout rod" - a 7'0, medium action with a spinning reel, old 30 lb braid and a scuffed up gold cordell super spot with the hooks taken off. I'd chuck that sucker out and drag it super slow across the bottom to feel what was down there. The awful racket and mess that sucker would make usually drew smallmouth from quite a distance to the area. If I ever got a bite I'd simply reel the bait back in and cast out a finesse throwback rigged on my main rod - shaky head, tube, or weightless fluke - to capitalize on the action. If I hit a stump or laydown, a squarebill or weedless swimbait usually did the trick. Don't remember what happened to that rod, but I think I gave it away to a friend so he could start fishing. This sounds like a better option. Thanks Gene!

I can feel the resistance and small hangups when dragging my rig across the bottom. But when I bounce a Texas rig off the bottom I really don't feel it hit the bottom again.

      Fish around cover, structure, weedlines, and grass mats. Try to experiment with different lures, retrieves, and rigs. The days around the new moon and full moon are best for fishing and youtube is a really good way to make sure you're fishing things right. You'll catch something soon enough; best of luck to you. :)

    • @J_pearce01
      @J_pearce01 Před 4 lety +1

      Adding to what Yikes said, go out early with a white spook or popr and cast parallel to the bank. If that doesn’t work try a zoom super fluke, a wacky rigged senko, and if there’s not too much grass a ned rig. You will catch one and it’ll get easier every time after. Just cast parallel to the bank and look for structure. Tight lines bud

  • @Neanderthal75
    @Neanderthal75 Před 4 lety

    So, pretty much the ponds I mostly fish are grass on the bottom, even in the middle. Cant' really use carolina or texas rigs. Literally the only things work are float fishing and setting the depth just above the grass or spinning gear, without letting it to sink to far down, otherwise I'm pulling out a bucket load of crap. There are big bass in these ponds, no question. The other option is either fish it before the weed grows out - spring time or fish it once all the weed died out.
    Anyone knows any other solution for that situation, beside what I mentioned?

    I would have to strongly disagree. Speaking as a bank fisherman, the top bank fishing rig is the wacky-rigged Senko. This will catch you more fish then any other rig. You can fish it in open water, around weeds and wood, under docks... really just about anywhere. I hate paying the high price compared to other stick baits, but they're hard to beat.
