Always great to have you aboard, shipmate 😁 Pirate Borg really feels like a game plus several supplements in one book. I'm so glad Mörk Borg has proved so popular and I hope Pirate Borg gives the system a broader appeal.
I can see PB really taking off, since it's a little less extreme than MB.
I didn’t back this, but I am loving the restraint applied to the art, design and layout as compared to Mork Borg. I enjoy the style in the original but it does make it hard to actually use/reference the rules. It seems like Pirate Borg kept the spirit of the design but toned it down a little bit to increase the usability
Perfect thing to watch as I go through my Chessex Pound of Dice order lol
I initially purchased the book and cards because the art work is amazing. Thats what sold me on the purchase to begin with but after receiving it i can honestly say i love everything about it. One of the best purchases i’ve made.
It’s great.
I just got a pirate Borg and I’ve been looking for a video that really helps to explain helps to dissect the book itself. This was an excellent video and thank you for reviewing it.
Glad I could help!
Pirate Borg is a way more complete package than I was expecting and I'm glad to see it here. I happened upon it by complete accident and I wonder if I've missed any other Mork Borg related books that have a comparable amount of content and work put into it.
All of the larger Forbidden Pslam books are great. Packed with stuff.

I would argue that a lot of the MB stuff has a lot of work put into it, though. Things like Feratory and Heretic are just overflowing with cool stuff.
@@TheDungeonDive Thanks I will definitely check that out!
I'm usually not a pirate theme fan but you got me onboard with this one!! I'll try to get a copy of this one! I have Corpswake Cove (which is fun) but this one seems next level!! Thank you for this review and now on to watch your game !
My copy just arrived, and I have digital copies of the cards too, so that was nice of them to include. I'm very excited to run this for my group!
Great review, and I'd love to see a bit of a play through (like you did with Mork Borg using the Dungeon Degenerates map!)
I’ll be working on something.
Thank you so much for the glowing review! I might have to try playing Pirate Borg solo now...
Have you ever used Solitary Defilement?
I have not. We are toying with some Forbidden Psalm ideas though ;-)
I would LOVE to see a Pirate Borg Forbidden Psalm book! A campaign that includes some naval stuff, island exploration, etc.
I didn’t really take to Mork Borg but this looks pretty cool. Great review Daniel!
I literally just watched your Solitary Defilement vid last night because I was looking to see how I might play Pirate Borg solo. I have Mork, Pirate, and Cy and I thin Pirate is the vibe I like the best. Easily the best form vs function balance of the three.
Cy_Borg looks like they went even further in the other direction in terms of form / function. It looks super cool, but almost too much?
@@TheDungeonDive For the first time, I literally get headaches from reading the Cyborg PDF! I think it has something to do with the fonts used!
@@TheDungeonDive Yeah, I think Cy_Borg has some bad color on background choices for reading, like pink-on-blue vibrates on the page. Lovely, but eye-straining. Since I didn't get the PDF from the vendor I bought it from, I also have no index.
@@MelvLee Yeah, I need a very well-lit room for Cy and Mork. It helps.
Awesome! Thanks for this video! Mine is underway, love this preview review ^_^
The well aligned layout of things on the mat makes my OCD happy
So… I’ve been trying out some solo rpgs to see if something sticks. For sidequest decks, I noticed the books already references deep ones and shoggoths, so picked up the Sidequest Lovecraftian/Cthulhu deck as well. (Also, it seems creatively easier by defaulting to Cthulhu monsters sounds easier.)
I also have leftover dice from Too Many Bones. I got rid of TMB a long time ago, but I kept the dice. There has to be a way to create a “momentum” system with the dice. Maybe augment the combat or spellcasting. Rolling “bones” seems to fit thematically.
Darn it. You and Wilona’s Cave convinced me to buy this…all of this.
It’s a fantastic book.
I have never played a solo ttrpg, but I might get this book just for the art and lore. Awesome.
that art work though. I don't even know what to say to express how cool. Thanks for the vid!
Omg I’m from the caribbean I’m buying this!
Nice! Still live in the area?
This is amazing! I am definitely going to find a way to make my character a pirate - if the world doesn't end soon!
I believe Limithron (the creator of Pirate Borg) will be kickstarting a separate book for the Dark Caribbean campaign setting. I know it will be for Pirate Borg and for 5E but I don't know if the separate game systems will have their own versions of the campaign book or if it will just all be contained within the same book. That might be a newer development since this video came out.
And I thought Mork Borg was a unique setting - this seems to dial it up even more! Some of the art looks to be reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon (to my amateur eyes). Was not expecting the Inkwell materials - I love their stuff too.
Oh yeah! I’ve featured the side quest decks many times!
Darkest Dungeon and Chris Bourassa are my biggest art influence! Good eye!
@@limithron Oh wow! I'm glad I said something then - awesome.
Bought Pirate Borg at a pirate festival. Very glad I did this system is amazing. I'm particular about naval combat systems since some get very complex and are too much for a ttrpg crossover. Others are so simple I feel I need to add rules to get strategic aspects such as wind. Pirate Borg hit it just right.
The art and layout in this book are just terrific!
sure are!
I do love the system, I only wish the naval combat was explained better, or that something "theater of the mind" could be offered in place of it. The Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPG has a pretty good miniatures agnostic way of doing space combat, so I feel like something like that could be adapted.
I have a feeling I'll be truncating a lot of the naval combat, as I won't normally be playing with a whole crew.
This is a great review thank you!!! Im buying it
Hope you enjoy it!
I picked it up as a late backer but I did not see those brilliant cards!
I got envy with this Solitary Defilement box...
And I just bought a hardcopy of MB. Your fault, sir.
I got really lucky with that box set. I was a backer of the original on KS, and got that. Then when Max Moon announced the box set version (which is exactly the same, just with some slightly better printing), I thought it was cool, but way too expensive. However, due to a logistical error, Max Moon accidentally sent me one along with an order I had placed. He said to just keep it.
The tone of this setting clicks with me in a way that Mork Borg just doesn't. Backed the pdf but will definitely be picking up a physical copy. This thing looks beautiful!
It does have a great tone.
Looked into getting it but Backerkit wants me to pay shipping twice (Base and Regular...huh?) so the $40 book would add another $40 in shipping...ugh. That is piracy for sure! Heh heh...I guess I'll wait to pick it up elsewhere... thanks anyway for showing off the gorgeous book!
I got mine from eBay.
I backed this. I never play RPG but it looked cool and I though it may be fun to try the naval battles in the future, maybe even solo with the hexmap.
Why do you do this to me lol? I'm gearing up for a Mork Borg Solitatry Defilement campaign and now I'm tempted to immediately dive into a Pirate Borg Solitary Defilement! Real talk, love your videos!
Haha. Thanks! Both are great. :)
looks like it fixs all the little grips i had with Mork Borg. will definelty be getting it
Can you play pirate borg coop (2-3 players)? And do you think this can be my first rpg book? Thank you very much!
I've played Mork Borg co-op using the Solitary Defilement rules. It's a simple system, so OK for a first game.
Considering this but for it to work does it require solitary defilement?
For solo? You can use any oracle system you’d like to.
Fantastic. Thank you. A most excellent channel. Keep it up.
Where could I find the side quest decks?
Amazon.
