    Would love to see Neil give a more comprehensive and detailed build video on this rig. He FLAT NAILED IT! Scale details AND performance all in one neat package. He obviously has the eye for detail, and the technical expertise for building effective crawlers. I for one, would love to see a detailed list, and explanation of the parts he used.

    The 1/24 scale has become what the hobby used to be for the larger scale cars. Nice capable starter cars at a reasonable price. Tons of after market support and enjoyable and affordable for anyone at any level. Hope it stays this way for a bit.

    I love this.
    My scx24 gladiator is going to pinch some of these ideas.
    My shocks damped well using lithium moly grease worked through from the shocks oil wells, upside-down mounting to retain grease

  • @jacksloan3516
    @jacksloan3516 Před 2 lety +2

    I have come up with a great mod for shocks gives you both compression and rebound dampening with no leaks, and no loss of travel.
    I take the shock shaft and grind the shock head (piston) flat with the shaft on 2 opposite sides than added Traxxas #5040 20 Million weight fluid. the flattened side of the shock shaft head allow the 20 MWF to pass achieving dampening both in compression and rebound, you can adjust the amount of dampening with how much fluid you add. It will not reduce the travel of the shock in either compression or extension. It does not leak out so no mess no excessive maintenance required. The shocks I tried this on where HR adjustable clones off Amazon, with a 17mm length shaft with a 3mm dia. and 3mm tall head with the weight of my vehicle I added approximately 3mm of 20MWF worked well, I used a toothpick flattened on one end to use to measure the amount of fluid I placed in each shock so they would all have the same amount of dampening. This mod will work with any shock that has a shaft with a piston type head. I have had great sucess with several different shocks. I am waiting for my order of double barrel shock to give this mod a try on them. I think you will find this a great solution for the inherent problems with these small shocks.
    Love your videos, keep up the good work.

      This sounds like a solution very well worth investigating. I just received my first SCX24 today, so played with it a bit after work this afternoon. I have a set of Mofo RC oil shocks coming, but I'm a bit dubious of them actually not leaking, so have been considering other possible options. I pulled one of the stock shocks tonight just to check their construction. Then dug around in my garage trying to see if I had any grease "thick" enough to provide some damping, but NOT make a mess in the end. And oddly enough, the thing that crossed my mind was... wait for it.... Some REALLY heavy wt diff fluid! Wasn't sure what wt to try, but now, thanks to your suggestion, I at least have a starting point with which to begin experimenting. So, 20 MWF and some shaft head mods... Seems like a reasonable place to start. Thanks for the ideas!! At the end of the day, what we need is a bit of controlled stiction. Not so much that it binds or impedes free shaft travel, but just enough to provide enhanced friction so that friction damped shocks can actually provide some damping. 20 MWF sounds a bit thick to me. Isn't that almost like silicone ear plugs? The principle is sound, and I would guess that the key is the shaft head mods, and *just* the right amount of fluid... Think I'll give this a try... Amazon, here I come! AGAIN! Haha

    I put a dab of dielectric grease. Just a little. Spread it around the inside. Not too much. Takes most of the bounce out of it who’s not inhibiting the springs or making a mess.
    I like the viscosity and light “slickness” of dielectric.

      I have treal 40mm oil shocks in my gladiator. They barely leaked any 50wt oil in the 5-6 months I have had them. I’ve topped them off once since I first filled them and there was about 3/4 still left. I just had to put some of the softer hot racing telescoping shock springs to make them right. Not sure why, but they have stopped selling those . But The shorter hot racing oil shocks you are speaking of have also been good to me when using 50 wt oil. They have about the same travel as the treals and are a bit shorter. I would recommend trying them

    Looks like a great build! I just bought one, no mods yet. I didn't have the pieces in the same spot. Those look nice! I bought some bluing and can use it on my cheap brass pieces. I have two other SCX24s, one is lightly modded and the other is highly modded with a low CG frame and RC4WD Mud Slingers. It's pretty awesome for crawls, and I'd love to bring it out to that beach.
    My neighbor has a course in his garage. I uploaded some footage of it. It's on 3 4x8' sheets. I wonder if you have ever built a course or would ever think about building one for yourself.
