    The new Nike Pegasus Trail 3 is a slight and expected update to one of my favorite door-to-trail shoes from last year, the Pegasus Trail 2. Sporting a redesigned upper (nice!) and the same React midsole (double nice!) the Pegasus Trail 3 does a lot for comfortable long runs while still suffering some of the same issues as the previous version. What do you think?

    The new Nike Pegasus Trail 3 is a subtle and welcome update to last year's model (which made my Gear of The Year list). But there's still some carry over issues that need addressing. Also, does anyone else have the lacing issues that I do??

    • @SuperAloeFresh
      @SuperAloeFresh Před 3 lety

      No lacing issues for me. Might be the most comfortable shoe I’ve ever worn. Loving it so far. And it was on sale at the end of June for $99. Sick deal.

    I’ve done hundreds of miles in two pairs of v2 and absolutely love them. I live in Scotland which is not a dry country and don’t have any major complaints about the levels of grip offered. Yes, the shoes isn’t one for heading into the mountains but overall it’s a good shoe for day to day trails.

  • @jeffk506
    @jeffk506 Před 3 lety +2

    So far I’ve liked it but you’ve nailed it about the grip. First little rainfall and I was struggling, not so much on the uphill but down hills were a nightmare. With a 100 miler coming up in September and good potential for wet weather I’m not sure I can trust this shoe as much as I’d like. Had been running in Speedcross 5 and grip was never an issue.

    • @graemeroberts3069
      @graemeroberts3069 Před 2 lety

      Speedcross and this shoe are incomparable. Totally different in every way. I own both but use this one so much more just because of how extreme and specific speedcross is for mud and mountains only. This one good for dirt roads and mild trails where most trail runners train most of the time.

    One thing to remember about the outsole is that the pegasus trial was meant to be able to travel on the road to the trail. so you should be comfortable running on the road on your way to the trail, so they have to design their lugs in a particular fashion to accommodate road running also.

    • @TheGingerRunner
      @TheGingerRunner  Před 3 lety +6

      I certainly recommend them as such (and use them primarily for that purpose) but there are so many examples of shoes that can achieve the same effect while simultaneously using an outsole compound that doesn’t suck at both 🤷

    Dope review man. I’ve been wanting some Pegasus shoes again but I dislike how narrow the newer ones have been over the past few years. I was thinking about getting these just as normal trainers on the road since they have a wider platform as you mentioned. Do you think I’d have any issues with running on the road with these?

    Still looking for something that competes against the Kiger 5 on faster paced runs. Bought the Wildcross but couldn’t put my finger on it until recently after switching back to the Kiger 5. The grip on the Wildcross offers confidence to push-on when conditions are not ideal but sustaining a fast pace is more difficult than the Kiger 5 when conditions are okay. I wouldn’t trade the shorter laces, a shorter tongue, poor grip or the stability issues of the Kiger 5 for something that doesn’t move as quick. I also wouldn’t trade the grip and shape of the forefoot on the Wildcross. I was hoping the Pegasus Trail 3 might’ve been Goldilocks!

    Awesome review. Agree the laces are WAY too short. I have a high instep and almost struggle to get the shoes laced up. Combined with a tightly secured sewn in tongue make these running shoes the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned. 3 runs and I’m about to take to them with a box cutter to see if I can free up some room in the top. I’ve been a Nike guy ever since my teens ( I’m now in my 50’s) but these shoes are extremely disappointing and have tempted me to try another brand for the first time in 4 decades. Any recommendations appreciated.

    The big disappointment with all Nike trail shoes is the rubber and grip.

    The complaints on the grip? Well, Pegs have found their slot - dry or wet (pine) forest, dry rocks, being an approach and a cushy recovery shoes.
    But when it's a MUD fest time - it's a Salomon time 😉
    Easy choices.
    Last race weekend example:
    Downhill hike in the rain - Pegs worked
    Downhill run fast - Speedcross rocked!

      Last race was a good mix of asfalt, dry & muddy paths, grass, loose & wet rocks. All that especially on steep decends was a perfect test. Clean butt proves SC👌 - no single slip.

Maybe if you live in dry climates, but I live in Vermont and there is always some moisture on trails and there’s no other way to say it, Nike Trail outsoles SUCK. All three shoes and for years Nike just continues to ignore all the feedback consumers and reviewers are sending their way. I’ve even left reviews on their website to have them deleted. A trail shoe that doesn't grip isn't really a trail shoe is it?

      Exactly. If this didn’t have a swoosh on it he would absolutely trash it. Hard pass.

    Heel bone rubbing. Had to send it back.

    Ethan, your shirt is blending into the wall behind you. It’s like a floating head shoe review. Which is both cool and kinda weird.

    Sounds like the outsole would never work in Scotland 😂

      I like the 2 a lot, but definitely prefer a slow down or something completely different in the mud.

    Weather wise, is this suitable in southern California where it rarely rains?

    Yes grip is crap! but best road to (dry) trail shoe (the No2). If grip similar I wouldn't buy it.

    you can really tell when a reviewer doesn’t pay for the gear. £120 for trail shoes that don’t have any grip and they’re a strong recommend? come on now…

      Hybrid shoe... road to mild trails... what most people do most of the time. Good long distance shoe for mild terrain. Not a shoe for technical stuff.
