The Six Day War of 1967 was a conflict fought by the country of Israel against numerous Arabic countries, the three at the forefront being Egypt, Jordan and Syria with Iraq sending over troops to fight the Israelis. This conflict is animated wonderfully by the channel Kings and Generals.

Hello and thanks for the video.
I want to tell you that the military equipment of the State of Israel was bad, and very, very outdated ...
Israel's planes came from France used, the rifles were of the older generation, and Israel's ammunition was almost gone ...
The State of Israel won with the help of excellent intelligence that came thanks to brave and daring spies like Eli Cohen, and excellent planning of the attacks.

the Israeli air force used mirage and Mystère airplanes - from French. the Arabs used mig and Sukhoi airplanes- from the soviet union - about equal quolity/ the real advantage of the israeli air force was better ground crews. the Israeli ground crews were much faster than any other in the world and could prepare an aircraft returning from a mission for another mission in record time. that was the key to the success of operation "moked"

My dad fought in this war. He was Golani Brigade (on the Golan Heights). A few things that you, and seemingly all Americans, don't know/get wrong. While we (the U.S.) supply Israel with lots of weapons today (and vice versa Israel has lots of weapons and tech we use here) the planes were certainly NOT "top of the line" or "state of the art". Most of the equipment was left over WW2 stuff. The other countries had comparable or superior tech back in '67. There were a few key differences, though, and it wasn't (at that time) the tech.
First, Israel was a quasi-westernized free country whereas the other side were not. This means the information individual soldiers got was quite different on the Israeli side vs other side. My dad talks about Amer (Egyptian General) going on the radio declaring "We've stormed the gates of Tel-Aviv" when my dad and his fellow soldiers, who had been up for 3 or 4 days, laughed asking "where are these gates?! ". There was lots of miscommunication/propaganda on the "Arab" side between the other countries and from the brass down to the average foot soldier. Of course, there was propaganda on the Israeli side, too but it wasn't on the level of lying to allies about capturing a major city when, in fact, they retreated. The (mis)communication between the "Arab" countries was egregious and cost them many lives.
Second, at least back in '67 (I think this is still true but I'm not certain) the average Israeli soldier had a lot more agency than even the average American soldier - let alone the soldiers of Egypt, Syria, Jordan. That means that a soldier on the ground with a mission can - and did - make a change to the mission or target once on the ground if there is something that they see that changes the circumstances. The soldier can take the initiative. In the air force the pilots were allowed customize their planes. A story I've often heard is pilots would put mirrors (like rear view car mirrors) in the cockpit for a better field of view. Little things like this made a huge difference for a variety of reasons. While the Israeli conscripts were completely aware they were fighting for the actual survival of their country, the average Egyptian or Syrian soldier had very little information about what was actually going on, very little reason to really dig their heels in and fight.
There's a whole lot more but just understand it was not because Israel had better gear and tech back then; they didn't. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll ask my pops.

Egypt and the other arab nations were weakend by other conflicts at that time. And did not even want to go to war, that is the reason why the egyptian president was in the US at the time war was declared, he wanted to negotiate the opening of the blocked strait. That why israel was in such hurry to attack, they didnt want to loose their justification. How is the feeling knowing your dad fought for the agressor side of the conflict?

  • @Abn12349

18:46 no, the israeli army had old French planes, while the egyptians had new superior soviet union jets and anti-aircraft missiles from the soviet union, and also syria did. Israel overall was much less equipped. The arabs had much better tanks, more land, more money, more soldiers, a much better airforce, and it was 3 countries attacking israel at the same time. Israel won because it had amazing strategies.

Operation Focus (the surprise attack that basically wiped out the Arab air force) was the decisive victory in that war, after that the Arab ground forces were at the mercy of the IDF on open ground. The large disparity in casualties basically prove that if you manage a strategic surprise like Israel did in this war, you can achieve truly lopsided results.
No side had any significant advantage over the other in equipment quality, it was pure speed and surprise that did the trick.

The description in the film lacks the main point and that is actually all the problems - Egypt and other Arab countries, for months held parades in the streets in which they described how they would slaughter the Jews, rape the women and murder all the children and throw their bodies into the sea -
The entire audience, millions of Arabs, took to the streets and shouted, "We will come to slaughter you Jewish dogs" - on the other hand, no government in the world wanted to help Israel and calm the situation - the whole world had already accepted the fact that Israel would be destroyed!
The British, who are the only ones responsible for the Palestinian problem, and the French did even more to prevent Israel from receiving weapons that it had purchased with money - the US was not interested because Israel was a country founded by socialists and is therefore not on the political map of the US and the Soviet Union decided to go with the majority and provided modern technology weapons to the Arabs.
Israel, as always, was left alone with herself in front of the whole world - when no one in the world wanted to interfere in her destiny anymore -
