Watching this video with the G1000 manual open.... makes me wish YOU had written it. I'm used to dry technical manual, but the Garmin docs seem to have been written by experts in treating insomnia.

Thanks for the video. I just started flying again after 18 years. I learned on a six pack, but have had experience with HUD and glass cockpits from flying full motion sims when I worked for an airline. I’ve flown twice with the G1000 and can use it for basic flight based on my sim experience, but now I have a much better understanding of the PFD functions to change Freqs, nav radio, and display options. I’m going to watch this again a couple of more times before my flight in 2 days so I can hopefully impress my CFI with my management of the PFD. That, and hopefully be a better pilot too. ;) Thanks again, looking forward to watching your other videos soon Thanks again!

@@drpilotfi my use of the PFD was a little better this time. We spent most of our flight doing touch and goes, so not a lot of practice with the G1000. The biggest thing I keep forgetting is that to switch the active radio, you have to go to the audio control panel. I want to push the COM button “in” to switch between 1 and 2. I did spend the $10 to buy the app, so I’ve been playing with that tied to Xplane. That’s giving me some repetitions since the weather hasn’t allowed me to fly this week. The other lesson for me is to take a minute or two in my set-up to think about which frequencies I’m going to use and in what order. With my local flights, I only need to use 5 freqs; ATIS, Ground and Tower at my base airport, 122.750 for the practice area and 122.8 for the non-towered airport we are using. So I can set Comm 1 for Ground and Tower. And Comm 2 for the others. That will minimize my changes until my brain power is less focused on manipulating the controls, and I can free up some RAM to manage the flight (if that makes sense). I’ve watched part of your Part 3 video to start figuring out the Nav functions. Your video length is great to learn manageable chunks of information unlike the 1 hr long videos I’ve seen. Thank you so much for doing this for the community

Here's how I would manage the comms: Comm2 ATIS active Ground standby then switch to Ground after grabbing the ATIS and replace it with CTAF for the non-towered Comm1 Tower active Practice Area standby You'll have everything until coming back Right before returning to your base: replace practice area with ATIS and you'll have Tower and ATIS on comm1 for returning So a total of two times of tuning frequencies, once on the ground before leaving and once on the way back.

Great tutorials, that is if I can follow along. Suggestion: slow down your narration it will prevent me from hitting the pause button and repeat hundreds of times. I'm worn out doing that. Also explain what the buttons mean (ie: CDI, what function does it provide) instead of just showing how to use it. Thanks again!
it's not easy to follow your softkey pushes. If you placed the computer cursor at the key (with a small circling motion) to draw our attention to the key THEN activated it, it would help. It would be best to show your finger pressing each key or at least the Apple Pencil or whatever stylus you are using. All the viewer sees is a short BLIP as you "press" the keys. Also you sound like you are racing to the end. SLOW down.
