👋 About Me 👋
After a successful business career where I've started and sold a number of companies, I've decided to get out from behind my computer to pursue a lifelong passion and start career 2.0 as a professional pilot. My goal is to get to 1500 hours and then either work for a large regional, a major, or possibly even cargo. Once my flight training is done, I will work as an independent CFI until I have reached the 1500 hours needed to get hired by one of the above. You can learn more at www.FlyWithTrent.com.

Trent, I’ve been following you from the beginning. Great content and keeps getting better. Videos covering the different Garmin avionics are especially helpful! I’m a low time pilot with the Civil Air Patrol, so this G1000 tutorial was very informative.
Thank you!

The "meatball" is called a flight path marker or flight path vector. This symbol indicates the actual trajectory of the aircraft in relation to the earth's surface.

BTW, I’ve got a free email course on how to become a professional pilot as fast as possible. The course covers things like how to study to the written exams, how to pick a school, how much to expect to spend, how to get financing, etc….If you’d like to gain access, just go to FlyWithTrent.com and become an email subscriber.
Thank you for putting this up. I'm moving over to a new 172SP with a G1000 soon and this is very helpful.
Right on! Thanks so much for watching one of my videos! I really appreciate you taking a moment to comment! I read every commemt personally 🙌
REALLY nicely done, Trent!
Glad you liked it!
I some how missed this video when it was posted. I saw the part 2 come out and was wondering where part 1 was. I learned and have most of my time on steam gauges. I have flown a couple hours on a G1000 but like your student, I had a pretty heavy learning curve. I’m heading over to part 2 now. Thanks!

@@trent_dyrsmid I'll check it out. Unfortunately, at age 67 and just getting back into flying as a "rusty pilot" I'm not a potential "professional pilot" but I'll surely subscribe and continue to watch your videos. 🙂
Thx and welcome!
Great video. Learning the Cessna 172 right now and this is one of my hurdles. Thank you for putting this tutorial series together
You’re welcome!
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for this! My school only has the six packs but I have the same simulator at home and have been eager to learn how to work with a g1000.
Glad I could help!
From France Merci beaucoup 😘

Great video. Make sure to teach your Instrument students on how to do an unpublished hold on a waypoint using the G1000. It burned me on my checkride not knowing. I have practiced it so many times since on an AATD and MS that I have it perfected!
That's a great idea!
Looking forward to part two.
Thx!

Great video! Thank you! The “meatball” has an official name I just can’t remember it right now. Looking forward to more content like this!

Super helpful! What’s the difference between nav frequency and comm frequency?
Nav is for a VOR or ILS, etc…and Comm is for talking.
respect+++
Thanks!!
Awesome stuff Trent. @1:30 I think you meant to say 156 KIAS not degrees 🤩 G1000 is a beautiful piece of avionics
I sure did 🤣
Hey, listen up! So, I'm all about cruising the skies, you know? I'm talking the A320, the mighty 747, those big birds that cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. But when I wanna Fly Small, I jump into the Cessna Citation CJ4 or the Cirrus Vision Jet G2, baby. Why? 'Cause I ain't got time for the slow lane. I wanna soar high, break through limits, and leave that poor 172 in the dust. Flying those commercial giants, it's like taming a beast in the air, no matter the weather or wind. None of that shaky, tossed-around-like-a-paper-airplane vibe you get in a puny 172🤮on a gusty day.
And let me tell you, I'm all about that MCDU life in those big boys. Quick, efficient, no time to mess around. Unlike the Garmin G1000, which, let's be real, ain't my cup of coffee.
Now, don't get me started on the 172. Small, non-jet, and don't even get me started on the price tag. Why pay top dollar for a new 172 when it's gonna chug along at the same speed as an old one? Nah, give me the big boys any day. That's how I roll in the skies in or out of MSFS2020, my friend. 💪

Very good tutorial, easy to understand while you are talking very clearly. Question, I am using XP12 on my Mac Studio Ultra and I would like to purchase a G1000. Do you know a G1000 hardware with a simple USB plugin suitable to all XP 12 aircraft models like Epic G1000, all the Diamond and Thranda aircraft models?
Sorry, I do not. I play in virtual reality so I don’t have much in the way of physical controllers beyond the yoke, throttle and rudders.
So cool boy things have changed since my brother learned in 1975

hi great video. is part 2 coming out soon ?
I have a number of other videos that I’m planning to do first. This first one didn’t get enough fuse to warrant filming part two.
Great video! I'm looking for a MFD video that takes you through the different chapters and pages, any suggestions?
Flight Insights recently published a good one.
Part 2 Please!!!
I’ll get it done soon!
3:00 a lot of us call the “brick” the pizza crust as well lol
🙌
My PFD and MFD are very dark and hard to read. Even verified that both are at 100% brightness on the PFD menu. Any suggestions?
Sorry no.
Hello Trent, can you please link the video for the MFD. I can't find it.
Haven’t made it yet.

Wilco.
✈️
Is there going to be a mfd vid
Part 1 didn’t get many views so no plans for part 2 at this point.
Why is MFD located further away from the pilot? The PFD does not have all the capabilities of MFD... Can you explain?
The PFD is more important for maintaining control of the aircraft in IMC.
@@trent_dyrsmid how so? The PDF does not have the capabilities of MFD such ad altitude adjustment, AP control, VS speed etc.

Missing Part 2
Part two was released just a couple of days ago.
Where part 2??

Why do you guys on youtube zoom way out on the screens you show us? Not all of us are watching on 95" TV's fyi.
Nope. zoomed as close as I could.
@trent_dyrsmid so I guess that's your zoom limit. Okay, thanks for the quick reply. Thanks for the video
