Would love to see your opinion/thoughts on the wisdom in golf style of teaching. Throwing clubs and cutting grass, task based learning etc.

Oddly I had a lesson yesterday where we concentrated on swinging slower to give me more time to feel the club head and letting it load and unload in a better sequence. The ideal was that if I can swing an 8i at 75 mph (with no more than 1 mph deviation) then I could add speed later. It was very hard to do and I will need to go to the practice range a lot to get even close to what my coach wants.
I felt like I was swinging at half speed but there was very little difference in the average carry compared to my current swing but whereas with my current swing I could get a carry of just under 150 yards with one shot and barely 130 yards with the next, the slower swing was consistently just over 140 yards, shot after shot.

My golfing buddies are always amazed how far and consistent my shots are with my three quarter swing! I try the full swing and yes I gain a few yards. But it’s erratic.. I say it’s about the timing. It pi##es them off. I think this what this video illustrates. Nice work Andy.

Yup. I smoked my buddies yesterday with a 3/4 swing game. It also helped with the wind.

Nice video Andy. It makes sense as the slower swing speed provides more control making your swing more efficient which increases both your ball speed and smash factor.

Thanks for your input. I am the average old golfer. I can't get over how much yardage I have lost so I have been over swinging to the point of messing my swing up. I know that I score much better if I focus on contact and direction instead of distance. But I did enjoy mashing it longer off the tee farther than all my friends. It's very hard to give that up. So it is good to see a video like this.

Have been trying this over the last few months with greater consistency and playing some good golf. I have also managed to reduce grip pressure and the swing is much more fluid and speed is up too! (Reckon if you try to hit hard you’ll grip tighter, your muscles in you arms, shoulders, chest and torso all tighten up and kills the swing 🤔)

Changed my tempo to a much slower speed and found that my distance had not changed however I had much better control. I am excited to try the "pivot through" And still maintaining control. Great videos. Keep up the good work. Thanks.

You are fabulous, you help me relate to a lot of important ideas, comfortably! Thank you, love your videos sir!
That said, IMO other viewers should definitely watch the Danny Maude video, as there is additional information that seems to get lost here, at least IMO. Danny counts ONE on the forward press, while you seem to start with ONE at the start of the backswing. Makes a big difference, at least for me, I have no natural rhythm :)

I like 👍🏼 this idea 💡 I am going to try that. My sequence is often out of wack where I want to hit instead of swing.
My pivot through is often to late and I am left with a low hook or pulled shot.

Distraction techniques like these (counting etc) are very interesting and have a lot of science behind them and are used in many sports. Explained simply what they do is they prevent the front part of your brain from interfering with the brain auto-control function, which frees up your body to maximise its efficiency.
Coupled with positive imaging it can be extremely effective👍

If you struggle with your Putting etc you might find that counting "1" in your backswing and "2" in your downswing will help your stroke.
I had a real problem with chipping Yips a few years ago and found that counting helped to distract my conscious mind from telling me everything that was going to go wrong.
      Try it, it definitely works👍

I have slowed down my swing with drivers to improve swing plane and face at impact, my theory is that centre face impacts will promote greater distance . . . not always easy to achieve but it does yield results. I will try this . . . . a comment from the pro who created the tip would be most welcome
Tried this out on the range, partly as recovering from back injury. . . . don’t know about distance yet but the smooth rhythmic swing leads to sweet connections, that’s got to be good!

Broke my driver shaft recently,, only replaced with a 42g shaft available,, but have to swing super slow to control it,, strange but can feel club head position more giving a chance to hit nice little draw with good distance,, be interesting to put up against the heavier shaft when it comes,,, thanks callaway,, cheers Alan,,, 🤔☺️😀

Just a thought. I recently went to a slower and shorter back swing speeding up only just prior to hitting the ball. I am much more relaxed than when trying to hit through the ball hard. With that my head speed has increased.

Mate, every time I have a good lesson, I always end up feeling like I'm swinging slower yet the ball goes just as far if not further.
Swing feels really easy. If only I could keep it up for the weeks/months after my lessons 🤣🤣🤣

Swinging slower, at least for you, allows you to apply more of your body mass to the swing. Mass times acceleration equals power.

This is simple. The average golfer sacrifices strike when attempting greater speed, thus losing distance. Pros swing faster and don't sacrifice strike, thus hitting it much further than the average golfer. For most of us, this is good advice.

I have to be very mindful of the speed of my back swing. I have a very bad habit of going too quickly, not rotating fully then snatching with the hands to save a terrible swing. I hit the ball much better with a slower back swing. It is probably not a slower swing going through impact.

To my way of thinking I see the idea that swinging slower gives you more chance of centre contact on club face which results in the more distance.

Most amateurs, don't realise that the arms must decelerate into impact, in order to accelerate the clubhead.
Otherwise the clubhead is simply dragged though, with no release.
Don't hit at the ball : swing with lag to P5 and put the brakes on, by using ground forces and the clubhead will accelerate much faster, than if you tried to power the club by using the lateral motion of the arms through impact.
