Just a friendly disclaimer, these are all my personal opinions and don't assume anything I say to be factual without doing your own research. That being said, I just wanted to have fun making this video, and yes even when I'm being critical of twenty one pilots, I'm still a huge fan and can't wait for their next album :)
Trust me, NO ONE was believing this as factual. Can tell how heavily opinionated you are..."simple" and "basic" and "decent singer" hahaha I'm not even a huge fan, but you just sound like a clown here.
I wouldn't say they've fallen off. Their next album, going to be their 7th, is highly anticipated in the twenty one pilots community right now. They've still gotten significant radio play, and while Scaled and Icy was a down album, that doesn't mean they've fallen off. Plus, there were amazing songs on SAI, like Choker and Shy Away.
You're totally right. Next video I'll get into detail on that, but it's not like they lost their core fan base or anything. They still have tons of fans, they just.... Made some questionable choices, IMO
Redecorate, No Chances, Bounce Man, Never Take It, Formidable, The Outside... they're all great
💔 shy away didn't go as planned. it was sabotaged and didn't get a chance 🤦♀️ 💔 what doesn't get ripped from our hands 🤷♀️. --- nobody 🐾
@@farrah9748 lol
@@animalfries1 I do get what your saying but your kinda just wrong. They never wanted the mainstream the reason they disappear is to avoid the mainstream
Trench is def king, I will say though it's not really valid to say they "make songs anyone with basic music knowledge could make". The majority of musicians never come close to the songwriting and production of Tyler Joseph, so that's very blatantly not true. You could demote almost any artist to simple, but that doesn't mean it's easy. Simple is harder, complex is easy, because to be simple it means you have to perfect each of the few elements that are going on.
Interesting take, I totally agree with you. I didn't really word it too well in the video but I'm with you on that. As you mentioned, simple means you need to be perfect, so I think that while the actual chords and melodies that Tyler creates aren't complex, he just does them so well that it instantly sets him apart from other people trying to make the same kind of music
No problem, I agree! Keep doing the videos man you Def have a lot of talent here!
@@BrandonShere This was the most wholesome disagreement on the internet.
@@BrandonShere hey I appreciate you man, I listened to one or two of your songs and I subbed! You got tons of skill man, love to hear more from you
Awh ty man! that's really kind of you! Glad you like it :D I got two songs coming soon that are easily my best yet, but since you're also a TOP fan you'd love the 2nd one. I also subbed and turned noti's on for you, I like your content would love to see more@@animalfries1
Downfall because they are not mainstream? That means they don't do songs for the radio and the mass and that is fantastic. I mean, Trench is a top-tier album out there, amazing production and creative and original ideas. We should stop thinking that popular/mainstream = good (well, it's good to reaffirm the industrial music thinking, but bad for the music itself). I can get why people dont enjoy SAI or consider it a downgrade, I think it was a fun and danceable little album with happy sounds for the covid era (Tyler said he stopped doind the next one because of covid and started working for SAI). They headline festivals every years and have a lot of listeners and plays. The next album will be breathtaking and a good example of what they can do seriously. And if it's not, let me know and I will apologize. I mean, they aren't going to follow the sound in sai and keep doing the same thing. And, of course, writing is the next level. I hope they don't become mainstream anymore because that means they're following the industrial standards, and they're more than that. And the tickets will be more expensive (that's the real reason).
Funny thing is I agree with literally everything you just stated, couldn't said it better myself. My next video is coming out very soon, I'll explain everything there :)
"This song will never be on the radio. Even if my clique were to pick and the people were to vote, it's the few, the proud, and the emotional."
From Fairly Local
Gotta agree, downfall feels like an exaggerated term used for more clicks, when ToP hasn't actually fallen off or anything. They're niche, but they're not baf or irrelevant
@@runtergerutscht4401 I mean, SAI wasn't even close to Trench or Blurryface in terms of success
@@animalfries1 it's a low, but the word downfall feels like more, like a band member left, or they alienated their fanbase, or their label.
I’ve been to 8 shows and at every single one of them I’ve heard “You saved my life!” yelled to the band by multiple people throughout each show. This fan base is STRONG. They connect with their fans on a deep level, not only giving them music they can relate to (in dark mental times) but how to get yourself out of it or at minimum that it’s worth it to stay alive and healthy, plus Tyler has said making music helps him get out of dark places so it’s a powerful connection. They are also incredible at their business. They are truly an example of doing what they love while helping people and taking care of the people around them. Plus they came up with social media so they have been pretty open and “caught” on recording being funny, cool, decent humans, brothers, husbands, and breaking the idea that to be a “rock star” you have to act a certain way. Why so many streams? The Clique (their fans) will put word out on socials like “hey everyone, this song hasn’t hit gold, platinum, whatever yet…”and we will stream it until it does, on top of the fact that we listen to their ENTIRE catalog all the time anyway. I even stream that Shania Twain song that Tyler produced just to make him bigger. Ok, I can go on and on but I’ll spare you. Oh wait, sorry, not done…they also write songs about the clique and drop fan fiction and clique obsessions into videos and songs to show they’re listening to us. So like, they know how to engage with their fans more than just AMA or lives or whatever. Ok I’m done.
Amen sister. Clikkies gotta be one of the most passionate fan bases ever
They got big because they make good songs. A lot of them are about dealing with mental health issues and thats what fans resonate with the most. They were still playing small college shows in 2012. Thats when i first saw them live and have veen a fan ever since. Its not really that wild that they became popular. Much less talented people become way more famous than they have been.
Very true. Awesome that you are able to see them live while they were still on the smaller side. Appreciate the comment!
That part about how most people supposedly only listen to music within a decade or two of their birth is a little presumptuous. Especially when you only cite your dad and brother as examples lol.
I was born in the 90s and my absolute favorite decade of music is the 70s. But I also bump RapCaviar at the gym for Top 40 rap. Or my wife and I sing along to 50's/60's girl group music in the car. In an era where every era of music is at your fingertips, only listening to 2010s - current day sounds like absolute torture tbh
Lmao it's definitely presumptuous, it just made a lot of sense to me so that the ages of twenty one pilots fans would line up. Of course it isn't true for everyone
Yep, I was born in the late 60s and TØP are my fave band and I know heaps of people, mixed genders, that are 40 to 65 years old
@@makeitwithalex4483 exactly my point 👍
I'm a guy and I consider myself one of the biggest fans of the band, when I started listening to Twenty One Pilots Trench came out and I used to listen to it a lot, but after 5 years I listen mostly to songs from 2008-2013 and a lot of the music I listen to goes from 1989 to 2014, I never lived in that time and I don't listen that much to music from the time I started listening to it, I consider the first album of the band one of the best, I love everything about it and I realize that the older songs are not that good in sound but the energy and meaning of the songs destroys any doubts about the beauty of the band. Also I can't stand almost pop music but TOP is an example of great music
💯
This video didn't age well.
I guess it depends if you like clancy or not
I saw twenty one pilots twice in their peak (2015 ish) and their live shows are insanely energetic and engaging and honestly incredible. I think that probably played a big part in their initial success via word of mouth. Doing live shows is what propelled their early career.
Totally makes sense, thx for the comment!
i miss the good ol 2015 days vibing to the self titled 😢

I absolutely love watching them live! They have such a tremendous amount of talent, personality, and passion that it comes out in the shows they perform. And the energy is so infectious! I saw them for the first time at Bottle Rock in 2022 and man! I can’t wait to see them again!! ❤
That’s not their peak, that just means you missed them playing the Trench album live, which is peak.
I am biased as a fan, but i feel people misinterpret there "edginess". Even in their earliest songs, despite topics of self doubt and self harm, they almost always create a positive message of self reflection and growth to counter the negativity. It'd be considerably edgy if they'd been full of complaints rather than solutions... Obviously my own opinion though.
I actually really agree with you. Migraine is a perfect example

Na they never fell off…the lore plays a big role in 21 pilots and that’s why some of the SAI songs were so simple because of how the bishops were using propaganda through his music
Yeah I mean they have a pretty big fan base and the lore plays a huge part, they're just not making as good music as they could be imo
That is true their older albums were definitely better but I can’t wait to see what they do with their new album and lore
@@cs.herbert_ same
The entire scaled and icy era seemed pretty tongue in cheek to me. Like purposefully uppity and more radio music than their serious stuff. They’re playing the long game, it was part of a five album story they’re telling and nobody has been more excited for their next release than right now
True, the pay off of this next album might def be enough to overlook sai
@@animalfries1 I think so. It definitely feels like they made that and now they’re like “ok back to the serious stuff” if that makes sense lol
@@space_1073 it does make sense. Thx for watching! I'll be making another TOP video once the album drops
SAIs poppy sound connects to the fictional lore, they were forced to perform and lie to the citizens of dema and pretend everything is happy and fine, that why its so radio. i think sai is a great album and i have many favourites, but i think this new album coming out is going to be fantastic, i am sooooo excited.
Wish they could turn back tim to the gold old days
Literally though 😂
When their mom would sing them to sleep
I’m M43, not at all in the typical fanbase, and fell in love recently with that band because of the song Jumpsuit. I heard the big 3 songs before but didn’t care too much. Now, I love the first album and Vessels. These albums are edgy and very different. That was the real band. The big 3 isn’t representative of their typical music. This band is an alternative band at hearthstone mixing rock, rap, hip pop, … and it’s too complicated for the pop friendly Spotify listener. The other problem: they are alienating their early fanbase with the last album by changing the style completely.
Absolutely agreed
bro saying their songs are simple and predictable gave me a good laugh
Hey, if nothing else I'm glad you were able to laugh :)
My guy, I really appreciate this video series 🙏
You gonna blow up 😁
You're the only person who believes in me 🔥
You might wanna make an update video: The rise and downfall, and rise again of Twenty One Pilots. They're blowing up again with the hype around their new album
I'm actually planning on doing a video covering this upcoming album (assuming it's not dogwater, which I don't think it will be)
Na this is a bad take. I remember seeing 21 pilots live for the first time as they were the support for Paramore and YMA6. Would have been their early days. They were electric. Best performance I have seen. Their Vessel album is amazing. Bro says they make simple songs? Have you even listened to Trees?
I'm not saying that their songs are bad by any means, or that any of their songs lack emotion. I just don't think any of the music that they made was incredibly unique or used weird chord progressions or different sounds no one has ever heard or anything like that. I think they were really good at the type of music they made, it just wasn't incredibly complex (think run and go, it's just a few chords on a piano and that's about it, still a good song)
@animalfriesmusic to be fair he even made a wish about this in stressed out
I first saw them in 2010 in a small bar in Columbus, and it’s crazy to see where they are now. I still think Regional at Best is one of my favorites (I was at the concert where they debuted Ode to Sleep, one of my favorites of theirs). I definitely fall into the “I grew up with them” camp since I’ve followed them since high school.
That's crazy bro, you're an OG
@@animalfries1 can’t get into their concerts for a canned food donation at the door anymore 🤷🏼♂️😅

this formula works well with you and Brad.
Good ole Brad
I was exactly the type of music listener you said-listening to 80’s and early 90’s music almost exclusively. The last band I obsessed over was 10,000 Maniacs. That all changed when my nephew introduced my kids and me to TØP. Many of their fans who stick around are here for the message. That’s what it is for me, at least.
TOP's greatest strength is the message behind their music, for sure
This video is about to age like milk, but good timing dude👍
Ikr 😂 I knew I had to post this before they released their next album cuz it would most likely be a banger lmaoooo
they were trending 🔥
as of writing this comment i havent yet watched the whole video but there is a part that really isnt true wich is when you say they make basic music or whatever. TOP have probs some super advanced music actually that is very hard to predict and not only that but the way they blend in insane amounts of lore with it all just makes every aspect of it so much more advanced and crazy. Tyler joseph is a lyrical genius and an amazing producer the music they make is different yet so loveable and advanced in every aspect
I'm not saying that any of the music isn't good or lacks emotion, and it's definitely lore heavy which makes it unique. But if you take any of these songs to the piano and just look at the music theory behind the songs, they aren't super complex, mostly basic chords and not even a crazy amount of unique instruments. That's what I was referring to
@@animalfries1 i dont think they need some crazy things like that to be called unique, boywithuke was called unique yet all his stuff was mostly basic chords or such pn a ukulele
@@pinny0799 you're absolutely right, I didn't say they weren't unique. I said that the chord progressions and actual music theory was not unique. The lore, the two-man band thing, the lyricism, pretty much everything else about the band IS unique
@@animalfries1 hmm alright yeah i get that, from what ive seen the chords usually are quite basic
Ok I will be waiting for the pt 2 for this Until than Im gonna watch footofferret video again
Just finished part two, will be up on Saturday :)
Their secret to success is having incredible live shows that capture attention and have an energetic tone the whole time. If you ever gone to a twentyonepilots concert they’re unforgettable
Sir, you're the first person to actually understand what this whole video was about. Exactly, they had amazing shows and people fell in love with them. Thank you for this comment
Idk about downfall. Gonna go watch part 2 right now. Maybe a bit of a plateau? But Overcompensate already has 3 million views on CZcams and it's only been like 48 hours since they released it.
I think Scaled and Icy flopped a bit because it wasn't as edgy as their previous stuff. If I recall correctly, Tyler said he wanted something a bit more happy because the pandemic put people in such a funk, he didn't want to add to it.
But it's seeming like this Clancy album is taking them back to their unique sound they're known for. I anticipate them to keep growing and selling out arenas across the country with this upcoming tour.
I appreciate you watching the videos! Yeah, I was mostly talking about SAI, and as you'll see in part two I fully expect them to rise back to Trench level of music again
You must know nothing about writing music. There is nothing simple about 21 pilots. They change tempo constantly and use chord patterns and changes that no one in pop music use. They also mix more than 6 different genres sometimes in the same song. I'm 47 and just got into 21 pilots during the trench album cycle. I also have been writing songs since 1991 and I can tell you the songs they write are nothing like anything that exists in the mainstream.
Changing tempos and mixing different genres isn't unique to just twenty one pilots. I'm not sure what you would call chord patterns that no one uses but to me they seem pretty simple. I'd love to hear an example
@@animalfries1 an example would be rather than using a standard c major chord as many pop song writers would use, top would choose for example a cmajor sus6 with a g in the bass. "The Judge” starts in A minor, but the dominant chord isn’t used until the pre-chorus. The verse alternates between i, iii, and vi chords. This strays from the typical I-IV-V-I chord progressions the majority of pop songwriters use. Then the pre-chorus modulates to C major, with a G major (dominant) chord at the end. This sets up the chorus for being in C major. Just an observation. And as for tempo changes I'd challenge you to name one billboard pop hit released after the 1970s that changed tempo mid song and still charted in the top 40. As far as I know there very few if any. I personally cant think of a single one without googling it.And yes, many groups mix genres, vaguely speaking. Very few, if any actually mix more than 3 genres simultaneously during the run time of 1 song i.e. "ode to sleep". Like I said, I'm a relatively new fan of top and the complexity of their arrangements is the reason I started paying attention. Catchy and simple are not synonymous. Just my humble opinion.
@@DavidDSmith-ye7jm I suppose depending on how you look at it, a song like the judge is either very simple or more complex. If you asked me to name one simple twenty one pilots song, I probably would have named the judge first. I know you mention it's in a minor first and then c major, but considering they're relative major and minor keys to each other, it's not like that switch from a minor to c major is something that's never been done before, it's just changing the dominant chord. The chorus is a simple four chord progression, sure it's not the regular 1 5 6 4 (or variation of that) but it's still pretty simple, I believe it's a 4 3 6 5 which is different but not ground breaking. Sure, in terms of the most "poppy" pop music it's unique, but we're comparing it to pop music of which most of it is extremely repetitive and uses the same four chords throughout the song. I can't name one song with a tempo change in the top 40 off the top of my head, so I'll give you that, but I'm sure they exist. This would also assume that twenty one pilots have songs with tempo changes that charted top 40, and without googling I can only think of Chlorine. Personally I think the fact that top mixes genres is a little overrated because of the way they do it. It's not like they meld three or four or five genres together in a way so that the result is something completely new. Instead, like in ode to sleep, or guns for hands, you have the song clearly in it's "rap part", and then changes clearly to it's "rock part" and then changes clearly to it's "pop part". Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it makes things a lot simpler to compose when you're making the parts completely separately, the only difficult part I imagine would be transitions between parts
I'm 29. I started listening to 21 pilots at 23 or 24. Still listen to them and I'm excited about the new album, but didn't realise they released an album after Trench. I also don't consider the songs simple like you say they are... Still searching for their sound? I think they have a very distinctive sound.
Yeah I feel like they have a distinctive sound for sure, it's very unique, I just don't feel like they are as genius as the fans make it out to be. Especially after listening to a lot of more music from other bands, returning to twenty one pilots for me made me realize that some of their music is disappointingly simple. Just my take

Dude! The venue was sold out. People of every age. I was surrounded by single men. Young and old. All enjoying the show. Most knew every word 💜🔥🔥
Yeah I've been to a TOP concert pretty cool stuff
I don’t think they’ve fallen. They may not have had any songs that have gotten as big as some of the ones from their Blurryface album, but literally all of their albums are great. Plus, the lore that they have in their albums is really cool. Good video though!
That's definitely a fair point. That's true, the lore is pretty awesome. Thanks so much for watching!!! :)
Lol this video makes no sense. Basically you're saying they "fell off" cause they aren't mainstream, yet they arent trying to be. Also, tell me how 30 million monthy listeners on spotify alone equates to "falling off"?
There's two videos
I used to be a huge fan. Saw them live in the trench era and they were great. I guess that their last album just wasn't as good as the preoviuos works (especially Vessel, which I think has a certain authenticity to it, you can't really replicate it!).
Vessel does have a really nice charm to it, and of course trench is awesome
Simple? Predictable? Not a TOP fan smh. Their music is as far from simple as you can get. That’s why I listen to them and not the sh*tty pop songs on the radio like Taylor Swift lmao
So a fan can't be critical of the band's music? I'm finding that clikkies are a lot more like swifties than I thought
@@animalfries1 didn’t say you couldn’t be critical. I agree with a decent amount of your points (Trench is definitely their best album and SAI is definitely their worst), but that one point of their music being simple and predictable is just incorrect. That’s why there’s so many videos diving into the meanings of their lyrics. That is all :)
It’s a well put together mini series so I have to give you that

Nice video ! I am à fan, and i am French, So it’s not easy for me to find good informations in my language because exept during shows that they occasionaly give in france, its impossible to find a fanbase here. Its also difficult when you dont really speak english to understand everything on the videos or website, and i cant follow every informations about them, thats why i was happy when they made thé video before the release of Clancy to explain et resume all the theories that i have been reading many years ago. I precise that I know and understan every lyrics and détails of the songs, Even the oldest one (EVEN those from Tyler Joseph before 21, EVEN TACO BELL SONG😂not to bad for a man from the deepest country in France)
Personnaly, i heard my first song from them just before the release of blurryface (i remember it was The Run and Go, still one of m’y favorite)
Since that day, i never stop to listen this groupe
Sorry for my english, for my mistakes, i am not used to write in english and my Keyboard is in French, tryying to correct EVERY single Word and add somme accents on the words like à or é😂😂
Votre anglais est excellent, et pas de soucis pour le clavier ! Twenty one pilots est un groupe formidable, merci beaucoup d'avoir regardé ! Ton pays est très beau
Like, is there even talk of a new album coming out or are fans happy to get no update since May 2021
Yeah it's been a hot minute lol
the new album release is possibly may 17th, but a new single is premiring in a couple hours actually. we've been aware of a new album release since late last year and the bands been hiding hints for quite some time
New albums out now friend!! Titled Clancy! Go listen!
I wouldn’t say they had a downfall, quite the opposite really. Blurryface was one of the most successful albums of the 2010’s and that’s where a lot of people got into them. Trench is under appreciated, and while I enjoyed scaled and icy, it can definitely fall flat sometimes. However, their fanbase is massive, and I don’t see that changing. Most artist get popular like this and within a few years are lucky to get a million listeners on most songs, but Twenty One Pilots regularly do 15 Million+. No doubt that their core fans are a big part of that, but it’s not difficult to imagine that some people remember their biggest songs and get curious about their newer music and stay because they like it. There’s a lot of people who will listen to new music, but aren’t super massive fans like other people are. I’m that way with Glass Animals. I’m not the big fan of them, I don’t follow their careers, I don’t keep up with what they do, but when I learn of new music, I go and listen because I like it.
The massive success from 2015 may have died down, but they are still massively successful to this day. They haven’t really fallen off, and I feel it’s insane to insinuate that they have just because they haven’t replicated the absurd amount of fame and attention Blurryface garnered. I mean, it’s hard to top 3 seperate songs with over 1 billion views EACH on CZcams in a few years, but they still have casual listeners, and a crazy amount of them at that.
Awesome comment, ya you're right, it's not like they've fallen off completely to me, but I think you tend to put lots of expectations on a band when they regularly put out incredibly good music. Then when they don't, as with Scaled and Icy (that's of course just my opinion), it feels very... unsatisfying. So no, they didn't fall off, but I don't know if they're making music to their new potential either. Of course, we got the new album coming so we'll see what happens here soon.
They def haven’t fell off cause they legit hit a peak of 30mil monthly listeners recently
Yeah I mean their fan base is pretty big but blurryface era was when they were the most popular. Scaled and icy has performed very poorly compared to all previous albums
Just checked their Spotify profile and they currently have 33.4 million monthly listeners. That's pretty good for falling off!
Alright Mr Snopes
It's simple, consistently, like a really good meal is. Which is harder. Some artists can grab a guitar and blow away a tech filled ensemble. Some people see a lot of tech stuff like a candy store and make something awesome without it being overproduced.
They're good chefs.
Also, I'm 32. I grew up on my chemical romance and the like, but my earliest influences were everything from jewel and dr Dre lol, lots of classic rock.
As an adult I found my tastes calm down. Still routinely pretty dark. Leonard Cohen is wonderful, jeff Buckley breaks my heart. I love lyrics probably more than I actually love music.
I love 21 pilots, but i listen to enough other musicians that I connect with more. That said, they're concerts are fun.
I don't listen to the radio really, i like full length albums. I love concept albums.
Idk, I disagree, i think they're still very young and I wouldn't count them out at all with the skills they've got.
You get huge, use that money to gain a comfortable life, then you step back and have to observe your life through new eyes. That takes time. Which is hard when you're a commercial success. You've got a contract, you create on a schedule. As a graphic artist myself I can tell you that'd be impossible for me. I'd need a gallery so i can just fill it up and people can take what they like lol.
So yeah, I'd say just give them a minute. Scaled and icy was fun. It wasn't as hard hitting, but I'd imagine that reflects a state of mind they had.
Honestly I agree with everything you said, and I appreciate the comment. I guess this video kinda makes it seem like their songs being simple is a bad thing, but it's actually not. I think it's incredible that they created such simple songs that are catchy, and resonate with lots of people, and put the work in to make everyone around the world hear them. Truly crazy. That being said, I agree with you that concept albums are the best, and Trench is definitely a gem that twenty one pilots gave us

Huh, i just started listening to them recently and was pretty blown away at the musical arrangements, lyrics, and production of their songs. Sure some of them are simple, but simple doesn't equal bad or even boring. Btw i think the demographic info off of an Instagram page run by a female (who is probably posting thirst trap pics of them lol) is going to be biased! Speaking of biased, im from Columbus so i just might be a little that way.😅
Yeah simple definitely isn't bad at all. I think most of their music is pretty good, although I feel like they get too much credit for breaking barriers. Just my opinion though. Yeah lol you might be right on the Instagram thing 😂
It’s crazy you think they fell off when they to this day have a massive Taylor swift like fan base that they created without using social media or trends or stream bait in any way
Very Swift-like
they are so back you have no idea
Yeah I'm ready for the next album
I was always confused with this since I became a fan. They have so many streams to a point where 2 albums have every song being in 100 million stream area, Truce being the lowest one with 116 million. Two albums where every song (not just singles) is certified, not even talking about Trench here which also did great in it's own right and had pretty good numbers. So it was weird to hear someone write few years ago that they are one hit wonder, so many people consider them flash in the pan, yet they have insane amount of streams and have probably sold like 60 million singles and over 10 million albums. It confuses me so much. I didn't care much about their music when they first became popular in 2016, and I remember hesitating to watch stressed out video for a long time and I started listening to them in like 2020 I think, but I knew a handful of their songs before that.
Yeah they have millions upon millions of streams... yet most people really only know stressed out. Huh?
@@animalfries1 Yes, it's really weird, as you said their lowest streamed song ever is never take it which has 30 million streams (Christmas saves the year is lower than that as I saw yesterday while playing songs from spotify in background, but it's still true regardless), and I remember when Scaled and icy was released, I heard choker playing from a local radio station at the store nearby and I was kinda surprised honestly, but then I discovered that the song charted in Global 200,, and the local station of the town does play a lot of tunes that are played in Croatia, and maybe some other countries nearby and Croatia is country near mine, which is Bosnia and Herzegovina and it was in other European countries as well, so it kinda reaches stations I guess.
I am a huge fan and supporter of this band. I can’t wait for their SEVENTH album release since 2009. I own ALL of their albums!! Their music is more than just music…if you pay close enough attention to the songs, you will know the story behind the music. Tyler tells a story, starting with RAB and it is said to be ending with their next album. Look into it…look up Dema and Clancy. 🙄
Don't worry, I'm well versed in the lore. I'm planning on releasing a video on the world of twenty one pilots lore after their next release :)
Very good video, I think alot of ppl don’t talk about the “downfall” of twenty one pilots. As a fan this hurts to say but for an outsider this would seem true. Can’t wait for the next vid
Hey I appreciate it man!! Yeah it's not like the downfall is a crazy one, they're still a huge band, but it's undeniable that since 2016 their stock has dipped. Next video out soon 💪
Have you listen to Regional at best tho?
Yessir!!
If they could still perform kitchen sink live 1 more time omg
@@Dayton_Koleszar would be epic if they could bring back some early era stuff for at least one more show
@@Dayton_KoleszarI’m sure they could, they performed Forrest during the icy tour, saw it in 2022, that was on Regional At Best

Man u TOP fans are a different breed 😂
this about to age like milk come may
I hope so, I want their next album to be good
Not calling a 2 part video, part (1/2) in the title is scummy. I expected one thing, and got another. I'll watch part 2 (if I remember to search for it), but I won't subscribe. I'll also change my dislike to a like if you update the title.
Umm it's just a CZcams video, I don't think it's that deep....
Scaled and icy
Was so bad
I chucked it in the bin
The same day i bought it
It was so bad i didn't want
To give it a second chance.
That was actually kinda touching 🥲

@@animalfries1 yeah it's a close second for me (Trench will always be the best thing they've done)
Mentioning the demographics makes sense and your arguments are mostly right but I think the conclusion is wrong: They might not "generate" so much more fans (or probably they will with the new album but if they wouldn't release they wouldn't make new fans) but that's not a sign of a downfall. They have a huge fanbase and it's nearly impossible to reach more people. Their fans frow older but that's not a downfall: I guess nobody would say that Linkin Park fell down just because most of their fans are in their 30s or early 40s now. That's just the "natural" development of popstar's fanbases.
I totally agree with you, I would say stay tuned for the next video on this because I'll be talking about the mistake that I personally think twenty one pilots made, but how there's tons of hope for their next album to be an absolute slapper. I agree with everything you said tho
I'm not gonna lie, I haven't watched the video. I'm sure it's good. But this title is in bad taste. Feels inaccurate and unnecessarily negative, not to mention just a self-promo piece for your own music in disguise. But what do I know 🤷♂ I'm sure you'll get more clicks for having a provocative tile and the boosted engagement as a result of that. Any press (or form of attention) is good press, amirite?
Yeah I mean the title is definitely spectacular for the clicks, but I do really feel like it is objectively true. It's not entirely for the attention, it's because I feel strongly about this. But your right it is a little spectacular
@@animalfries1 honestly, that’s fair. I’ll definitely check out your video and get the full take
@@RickyAmesDrumming appreciate you
great video, i do think though that their music is more unique than what you described
I appreciate the comment! Yeah it's def not like they make the most basic music around, but I don't think it's amazingly different or unique, but that's just my opinion
Yeah, they never fell. They just got 3 ridiculously popular songs. In comparison, a lot of the other stuff seems small.
Yeah I mean at least Trench performed well, SAI was really disappointing as far as streams and sales go
2014 to 2018 was their peak era but after that not anymore
So true
this did not age well lmao
You prolly didn't watch part 2 lol
I have disagree. The songs are more complex than any other songs for me. You do have to be a fan to get the story….or you need to read the lyrics and relate the songs together. I am 48 so I am not in their demographic but I love their music. Those days I’m depressed they can bring me up from my down black depths. My son introduced them to me. I have seen them 4 times in concert.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy them, they do have many complex songs and songs that hit hard. I love vessel and trench. Thank u for watching :)
Scaled and ivy was a ploy for the true ending for Clancy and trench. Look into the lore. They did scaled and ivy they way they did on purpose.
Yeah I know the lore, lemme ask you tho, is that just an excuse for scaled and icy to suck?
It looks like, you might be one of us...
Take it slow man
A month before their next release, when they’re literally one of the most consistent bands (I mean they said nothing and I knew since their last album that by June 2024 there’s be a new album), thennnn I think you’re trying to ride The wave 🙄
...? Not sure what you mean. They didn't announce anything, I had no idea when their next album would come out. I'm not some evil calculating scientist lmaooooo
@@animalfries1 hahah I don't mean that it takes machine learning to figure out when they'll release though :)
Clancy: May 2024
Scaled & Icy: May 2021
Trench: Oct 2018
Blurryface: May 2015
Only Vessel (Jan 2013) and their self-titled album (Dec 2009) break the trend by more than 5 months, and they're the oldest ones.
So like you said, they're pretty predictable :)
@@joshuamatheson6411 yeah, I mean that makes sense. Idk what you mean by trying to ride the wave though, I made a video on a topic I thought was interesting, and I thought about it and made it. Not sure what what to say lol

Thanks for reminding me oh wise one
a quick google search of streams and impressions/ views all show and upward trend for the bands hole history on all platforms with over 15billion views. how can you say downfall with an upward trend and no numbers to back it up? you can look up song stats and look at trends and number like added to playlist or plays all things that would lead to a not this take. you can look at ticekt sales for the tours. you pick a redit fan page as your source of truth? this isn't a bad video i just can get behind a take that isnt supported by the required reading. for an alt band they are killing it knocking drake out of top spot and getting on the most streamed spotify list for 2016. i feel like this is just a hot take to be hot or a poorly researched video. also the take that anyone can make their music is baseless. there is no evidence provided for the claim. if everyone could do it then why doesn't every other alt band do 15 billion views?
This video covers the 'rise' part of twenty one pilots career, with the 'downfall' part being next video. I wouldn't say downfall is actually what happened, but if you look up twenty one pilots on Google trends, after blurryface it's more than obvious that they fell off, at least to some degree. Of course they still have their core fans, but they aren't as popular now as they were in 2015/2016. Honestly I use the word downfall a little spectacularly, mostly for the title of this video. At the end of the day, this wasn't a video that was meant to be some factual documentary, more of just my own personal thoughts on twenty one pilots and how I feel like they have trended over the years. Musically I would say that they have very good music, I just don't think it's revolutionary or anything (again, that's just my personal opinion). Thx for the comment, y'all are keeping me accountable 😂😂
He says they fell off when they’ve literally got the most monthly listeners they’ve ever had in their career!
@@MaisieDhomhnaill I recommend you stick around for the next video, I will be explaining more what I mean by downfall :) Spoilers, it might not mean commercial success

Trash opinion. They have not fallen off. The new album will be out soon! Any fan knows the DEMA lore and that SAI was propaganda.
So you'll admit SAI sucked then
i disagree with your opinion but it was interesting to hear it
Thank you for the respectful comment haha! I appreciate you watching my video :)
wrong, there is no downfall
Oh yeah you're right my bad
I used to be a huge 21 pilots fan back in 2012- ~2014. My friend showed me their music right when vessel was released. I loved their unique sound, complex lyrics and genre bending. I went to a show of theirs in pdx in I think 2013. I remember when I first heard them on the radio - it was after the blurryface album came out. I was super excited but kinda disappointed in the album cause it was definitely more radio pop and then they started leaning more heavily into that radio-sound style with their next releases and I wasn’t into it so I stopped listening.
I'm glad you watched then!! Next video is going to be going over blurryface and why you may not have liked it, but also give you some hope for their next release :)
okay buddy

dude i felt it, the clique has turned into a cult of some sort and to say that the last 2 albums are..well, do not compare to blurry or trench, means to put a target on your back-you will be eaten alive by all the THEY SAVED ME BULLSHIT. I'm not trying to invalidate your mental experience and the sense of community, just pointing out the obvious - SAI and Clancy are bad, i mean there are nice sounding songs, they are catchy but the feel is gone, feels like my uni assignment with absolute 0 soul in it cuz i'm simply not interested. Makes sense - Tyler's a dad, Josh's settled down too, and it's not like i'm saying we should burn them for the fact their music just doesn't..shake you,idk..Take Paladin Strait music video - what a cheap piece of meat thrown at fans as if they were dogs-again it CANT compare with any of the videos they've done so far it's just so straight forward like tyler started this whole project with big plans and ideas and by the end of it just wanted to be fucking done. They've grown old, it's fine but i CANT STAND people commenting something like clancy is the best of twenty one pilots..Are you deaf? not. even. close. Good someone can just say it but even here there's a WAVE of clikkies trying to protect precious pilots. They are and will always be my favorite band btw, but let's be honest. It sounds like they were given 3 days to write an album and tyler opened a drawer of his least fave pieces that didn't land in any other LPs. Ok, i'm done (josh done).
Thx for the comment, I appreciate seeing the opinion of someone who likes TOP but is also honest regarding their music. I feel u with a lot of what you said, for me Clancy isn't as bad as you described, but I do have my complaints, and I think we can both agree SAI just... sucked. I really hope they come out with more music where they are willing to push the envelope and make some really incredible music
Not sure about their newest album but trench and scaled and icy i dislike very much. Given them more than just a single listen and i only like a couple songs from both albums.
Dang, you don't like Trench? Ig I can understand, it's different from Blurryface and Vessel fsfs
If you actually think they make basic music, you clearly haven't heard a single song from Trench.
If you go to 1:40 in the video, I say: "Trench aside..." And then I say that their music is kinda basic. Trench is awesome

@@mysteryultragames9644 💯
Dude, you don't have a lot of followers so I assume you are gonna see this. I feel like you are stuck between being a fan and lowkey hating them cuz the amount of info you have doesn't match your words so Ima be honest. TØP got famous cuz they make good music. You may not think so but everyone's opinion is different. I think Taylor Swift is "music any person with a background in creative writing and info on music" could write but she is breaking the charts. Tyler josheph is an unmatched lyricist and his music resonates with a lot of people. Now I didn't watch part two nor am I going to simply because I don't care but I hope you mention the dema storyline, why exactly Scaled and Icy is what it is (SAI is propoganda, Clancy is dead ect.) The important lore of Blurryface, the songs Doubt, Heavy dirty soul, Polarize, Message man which are far from "simple predictable" music and all that. Also Clancy came out and it is on the top 50 album list and their most listened to album of all time so yk. Truthfully the tøp fanbase vids on youtube don't get a lot of clicks and are usually recommended to tøp fans, and your demographic isn't really tøp fans since you seemingly bash thier music taste in this video. So I would def recommend that you don't make vids about tøp anymore. Try analyzing Jojo Siwa or if you really wanna do good/popular music Billie Eilish, Im sure you'll get way more attention. If the algo keeps recommending more fans this vid you are gonna have a lot of dislikes. Anyway if you read this thanks for that, I hope you have a very succesful career:)
Ty for the time u put into writing this comment! I think a lot of people assume I'm a hater because I'm critical of their music in this video, but honestly I am a fan, I love trench, and I've been listening to clancy pretty much non stop. I just had thoughts about the band that I feel the majority of TOP fans didn't share, but still decided to talk about it (makes sense why this video got so much backlash haha). But dam man, why u gotta do me like that with Jojo Siwa that's low 😂😂😭😭
Drake on the one hit wonder list
😂😂
Follow the lore bro, the story behind it is way better. No one is a better writer than Tyler, listen to self titled and learn from the best…
I've followed the lore from the start and I've listened to every album, it's a good story
Clancy is going to be at minimum a 7/10 lol.
I hope so, Trench is a 9 for me
I also don't think critiquing something creative is ever cool unless you think you could do better. Idk you, but I sure as hell couldn't lol.
Yeah I agree with you, normally that's not something I would do but I firmly believe that if the average person who had maybe a little bit of music talent, put the work in like TOP did, they could make very similar tracks. I'm not saying they would be as good, but it's not like it's impossible for the everyday person
The music is one thing, but try writing one song on the level of the dozens they've made. Not easy, I promise. Yes, I am publicly riding the meat of TOP. Yes, it's cringe. I hope you keep going and keep sharing your art. With love, somebody who is not a fan of the critics who shield themselves behind a screen.@@animalfries1
