About Henry Cho:
On February 11, comedian Henry Cho will be inducted as the 229th member of The Grand Ole Opry. This prestigious honor has not been extended to a comedian since 1973.
Alongside Cho, comedian Gary Mule Deer was also invited to become a member. Both men were surprised by the invitation on January 6 when Opry member and Country Music Hall of Famer Marty Stuart announced it backstage at the Ryman Auditorium during a Facebook Live event.
“After Marty surprised me with the invitation, someone asked if this was a dream come true. I had to say ‘no way!’” Cho beamed. “Because I’ve never even imagined this happening, not in any realm. I love performing on the Opry stage and it’s going to be really incredible to continue performing here, but now as a member of this historic organization.”
Cho’s TV credits include appearances on NBC’s The Tonight Show, CBS’s The Late, Late, Show, and NBC’s Young Comedians Special. He served two years as host of NBC’s Friday Night Videos and had many guest roles on various network sitcoms. Cho was co-creator, co-producer and co-writer of The Henry Cho Show on GAC.
Cho’s one hour Comedy Central Special, What’s That Clickin’ Noise? ran previously on Comedy Central and Netflix. He can also be heard daily on SiriusXM, Blue Collar Radio and Pandora. Some of Cho’s film credits include Universal’s McHale’s Navy with Tom Arnold and David Allen Greer; Say It Isn’t So with Heather Graham and Sally Field; and Material Girls with Hilary Duff and Angelica Houston produced by Madonna.
Cho was the keynote entertainer for The 59th Annual Radio & Television Correspondents’ Dinner and has worked extensively with Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Willie Nelson, Carrie Underwood, Reba and many, others. Cho’s clean comedy is so versatile that he can headline Vegas and then tour with Michael W. Smith.
Cho has performed on the Opry over 100 times, making his Opry debut April 2, 2011.
My wife of 20 years loved Henry. She passed away unexpectedly two weeks ago on 1/5/24 while taking a nap. We couldn't watch one of his routines without her having to pause it a couple of times because she'd have to run to the bathroom before she wet herself. All you had to say was 'what's that clickin' noise?' and she'd get the giggles. Thanks for all the years of great memories Henry.
My condolences for your loss, the suddenness must be difficult to live with. May your memories of her always be a blessing.
❤😢❤😂😢❤
I’m so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and everyone who loved her.
Sorry you lost your wife ❤
Sorry for your loss
This korean desendant face and straight up southern english speech is pleasantly breaking my brain. Its so freaking awesome.
There are asians in Mexico.. speaking fluent Spanish with a full accent.
You know you’re not born with an accent. Or a language, for that matter.
@@jordanbabcock9349I used to frequent a Chinese restaurant in TJ when I lived in Sam Diego. It was freaky to me, then, that the folks running the place spoke Spanish.
I worked with a Chinese guy years ago who was born and raised in West Virginia. Absolutely loved that dude, but I never did get completely used to his accent.
Wait till you meet an Australian with Korean heritage
Love Henry. He's been around forever. I love how he lures in the new people by talking smack about Arab, Alabama. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He's as southern as anyone from Arab. 🤣
I don't think he's luring anyone or acting like he isn't a southerner. Seems pretty out in the open to me.
I've driven through Arab plenty of times and Egypt is next door.
Yea, he's hilarious. I remember him talking about growing up in Tenn as an Asian kid. He said, "the neighborhood kids would get together and play Army" and they would say, "it's everyone against, YOU" LOL
You can tell he’s from down our way.
@@donotneed2250sometimes you should not try.
Hats off to the Asian American comics. Their parents are usually confused by their career choice.
No, they’re mad at him for ‘throwing his life away’ and berate him every chance they get; until he’s on tv or in a movie then they switch to THE proudest parents on the planet!!!😂 look my son is famous! 😂😂😂🤔🙏🏻
lindabuck2777 You know usually people that pursue these careers do end up throwing their life away and trying to return to a traditional life somewhere around mid thirties, still being supported by their parents., it’s very few that end up on tv and become famous. By that point, parents should be famous at all the hard work their child has put in to get there

😂😂”We may BUY this place”😂😂
"The Chevron?"
lol
@@MikinessAnalogno, the TOWN!😂
When he said “we were hanging out at the Chevron” I was waiting for the rest of the joke, cause I can totally relate! 😂
“Hanging out” was the joke!!! 😂
@@user-ss6po9ng9f I guess I don’t get that part. Don’t people still say “hanging out?” We do here where I live
@@jillv4006 Hanging out at the Chevron was all that they could do… or it was where everyone would see each other so they would socialize at the Chevron…
People in the town where my brothers grew up hung out at KMart
The town I grew up in had 1300 people. They hung out at the payphone by Kwik Trip(gas station).
Our county had one stoplight.
Thirty-five years later the county has two stoplights.
@@madtownangler Goodness man, were there no bars in your town? I drove through a small town of 160 and there were at least 3 bars located on the main through road.
I’m from Georgia so I could relate to this. Laughed throughout the whole video. I watch a LOT of kdramas, so it was mind bending to hear a Korean speak with a southern accent.
❤ 🌹
You know anyone of any race can have a Southern accent right…?
Henry is from Texas
My thoughts exactly!
I had a Native American friend with me in the car and we were driving around in NW MT. She was reading signs and making jokes about them. Then serious as heck read out ni-ni-pi-pe. I said “what?!” Then looked at the sign…it read Ninepipes. She was one of the funniest people to hang around with.
Henry's been in the game for a long time and he deserves more love than he been getting....dude is way too underrated.
I JUST found him, and was surprised to lean how long he's been out there. Him and Gary Gulman need more press!
As a Korean born and raised in Hawaii and currently living in South Korea, everything you said cracked me up! 😂 You are def the 1st Korean I heard with a Southern accent. I’m a fan! ❤
I grew up with a Korean kid in the South, he had the same accent we did. More common than you would think.
Hi there! I’m half Korean with a southern accent. I was born in North Carolina. It throws people off and it’s hilarious.
"Hi-WAR-ya." I hit the like button as soon as I heard that. Yup, Southern speak for Hawai'i.
I had a cousin out in west Texas that pronounced it that way. My wife and I were visiting them, and they were planning on a second honeymoon to Hawai'i. He looked at me and said, "Yup, Larry, gonna do 'er. This year, we're goin' tuh Hi-WAR-ya." (And, oh, yeah, you could have driven a Mack truck between the words in that drawled out sentence.) I had to bite my tongue not to reply as you did: "Fine, hi-war-U?"
It was the first time my wife had ever met him. And when he said that, she almost laughed out loud, because she thought he was putting us on.
Oh, and if I could have Liked the video a second time, I would have after the "Pipeline" joke.
Me TOO!
That pipeline joke reminds me of this one blog I once read about a vintage collector in NY going to a town in NJ to pick up something. She assumes the town name is yet more fake/butchered Algonquin and is actually said "chess-eh-kwakii," but no. It's Cheesquake.
I haven't seen anything from this guy in a long time, he's hilarious, he definitely deserves a Netflix special or two
I remember when I went to an international festival in Japan, one of the the announcers, when speaking in English, had a Texan accent. I wondered what he looked like because, as a Texan myself, there are barely any Asian folks out there, let alone any with that kind of accent.
I peeked into his booth to see a Japanese man in a cowboy hat. 10/10
Lots of Vietnamese in Texas.
Texas has a massive Asian population.
actually there are quite a Japanese circle for country music and cowboy yiha shenanigans aka the wild wild west. unless they were born or raised in the us, they lived through films and music.
Ever wondered maybe he has Native American blood
😂😂
Dude is just straight up American, that's it 😂
I love Henry Cho. First saw him on Designing Women and had to go see him in person when did one of his tours. I really like his old material. It's an art, not swearing in his routine.
The literal only time I remember seeing an Asian on there was the episode where they go to Japan, and the guy next to Julia on the flight has one line that is sadly just as relevant today just looking at the comments right here and now.
That last line had me in stitches
real deal southern accent, love hearing this as a fellow American Korean haha very unique
We're hanging out at the Chev-ron. I almost lost it.
I LOVE the accent coming out of his "Asian" mouth! "Course, I'm from Texas, so I have an accent, too! 💖💖 First time to see this guy, but I'm coming back for more!
Love that you put that joke out there.
Pipeline is one of the funniest attempts at Hawaiian translation I heard in Oahu.
Great surfing.
1st gen Korean-American here. This really surprised me. I'm happy to see his comedy isn't just about being Korean and how that makes him different. Thanks for the welcome change in comedic styles!
I immediately clicked this because Im korean and I went to Arkansas, and wow what an experience... Lol
He is southern. And you are your own form of bigot apparently. I am sure Arkansas was glad to see you go, but so we are clear ARKANSAS ISN’T SOUTHERN 😏
Its a nice town. Glad they got some Korean culture. Yummy food and nice people. Great business leaders.
I remember Henry from the Designing Women 80s tv show 😊 His voice is so distinct and his deadpan quips are hysterical.
He's like a Korean Ron White 😂
Actually, he was born and raised and went to school and college in Knoxville, Tennessee, even though he is of Korean Heritage and Descent, he has had a southern accent his whole life. I remember the first time I saw him decades ago on television I thought it was part of his act, until he explained it.
@@normancarter5419 Ah, now it makes sense :-)
@@normancarter5419and really long hair 😂
@@Patriot46426 He still has somewhat long hair, and keeps messing with it.
@@normancarter5419 Yeah, but nobody is saying that Ron White has a fake accent. The quality of his humor and style of delivery does have resonances with Ron White, who also goes over the edge for my taste occasionally but is undeniably deeply funny. Pippilinni is now stuck in my head.
He’s always so funny. I love his tales of everyday life
Ive never met an Asian that sounded so country and I'm from Georgia!!
Atl is not country
As soon as he started speaking, I think I mentally said, “Wait, WHAT?” 😝🤣
I loved him in the episode of Designing Women when Julia and Suzanne have a disastrous trip to Japan.
A bubba from Conyers, Georgia!
@@darloonie9465 Yes! That’s right!
@@carolinebcollier I know all the episodes, lol
This guy is awesome.
That identity stolen gag is just drop th Mike funny.
Live out west....knew an Italian guy who lived on Pipeline Rd...
He pronounced it Pippa Lini...
Said it made him feel more at home.
"I'm just gonna let it ride..." The first time I heard that joke was in the 1960's, but if you haven't heard it before it's still funny. And he's been telling the same jokes for twenty years.
I lost it on the Hawaiian version of Wheel of Fortune
😂
Saw him two weeks ago….fun show even though I knew most of his jokes. My wife had never heard him,she had a blast🎉🎉
I'm from Hawaii and the ending got me!
Glad to see Henry still doing his thing.
Perseverance always wins.
First time I heard him many yrs ago, I pretty much laughed at everything he said, so unique was an Asian American with a southern drawl to my ears. Glad he's still in the biz.
I could listen to Henry Cho all day, he is hysterical!!
Mom is from Korea. Dad is from Mississippi. He says “Koe-rean”. Lol.
You know a man is a legend when he hits you with the same joke for 20+ years!!!!! Amen!!!! Congratulations sir!!!!
Henry Cho is STILL hilarious!!! (I remember an awesome guest appearance he had on Designing Women!! Priceless!!)
The literal only time I remember seeing an Asian on there was the episode where they go to Japan, and the guy next to Julia on the flight has one line that is sadly just as relevant today just looking at the comments right here and now. Fuzzy as heck memory, but that guy was definitely an adult; no way that's the episode y'all mean...
That joke about his wife's identity being stolen cracked me up!
So glad I found you on utube. You’ve all been my favorite comedian. I know you’re a committed family man, but it’d be great to see you in movies or on your own tv show once the kids are grown.
I’m down here in mobile, Alabama on the gulfcoast I was laughing when he started talking in a southern dialect
Love ya, Henry!!!!!! 😂😂😂😂Been watching & listening to your comedy for years!!!!!!
This guy is so damn funny! 😂
This dude is refreshing! He needs Netflix special!!
Hilarious 😂 totally subscribing right now!
How have I missed this gentleman?! I definitely not one who lives under a rock, but...ugh...now I wonder. :) Gotta go check out any performances of his I can find! Great stuff, Mr. Cho!
One of the best opening jokes I've heard like ..ever.
😂😂❤❤😂😂 from start to finish i laughed!!
This guys hilarious.
He is such a guy. Love this.
I like that, an Asian man with a Southern accent, it adds some variety!
the identity theft joke was hilarious!
I have been to Arab, AL... years ago, and there weren't no Ko-Ree-Anns then... guess times changed... (now I gotta recollect just why I went there)...
It sounded like they were just there for the wedding. I doubt they actually live there. A working comic usually has to live somewhere more cosmopolitan and he's originally from Knoxville.
I just had a random thought about this guy yesterday, and he randomly pops up in my feed. This kinda thing happens a lot.
I lived on Oahu for 4 years, he is spot on about Hawaii.
Great set!
🩵 you are awesome Henry. I love your comedy. Hope I can see you live someday.
Nice to see Henry again...I first saw him 35+(?) years ago on TV (Jerry Seinfeld was doing stand up on TV as well back then) and remember him starting with something like "I am Korean..grew up in South...and that makes me a South Korean" 🙂
First time watching him and I am so happy to find him. Very funny 😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤.
Longtime HC fan, he's always been ahead of his time! 👍
Why am i just hearing of this guy? He's hilarious
This guy is great!
This is such an accurate southern accent, real deal😂
I know it's part of your routine, but in my neighborhood I grew up with the Yen family and Chi Qon played football on our 8th grade team (9th is in high school). He played linebacker with me, and he loved to hit the other team. However, his family was one of the most popular in the neighborhood and in the school. He did adapt a nickname of Charlie because people couldn't remember Chinese. I live in Georgia, so maybe we are different, because he never had a southern accent. All of his family graduated from Georgia Tech.
Pipeline. 😂😂😂😂🤙🏾
Love Henry, buddy JB,Jonny bonly
will watch more of him. Arab alabama. got to look that up..ha ha ha
Very funny! Just subscribed. 😂🎉
This guy is hilarious! ❤️❤️❤️
I love your voice
Most people don’t know this, but Korean is the second most spoken language in Alabama. There’s actually a large population of Koreans due to Hyundai and Kia.
First time this popped up in my feed. I bet he would surprise a lot of people by that accent.
Yeppp it got me 😂
Strong open! Guy is great!
That identity theft joke is priceless.
Dude is funny!
What a hoot! My dad was a pilot in the Korean war. 3 years in the country and I swear to the day he died he pronounced it “KO-tea”!
You can take the boy out of Kansas but you can’t get Kansas out of the boy!
Henry Cho is a Legend. Look up to him. He's always been nice to me when I emailed him and he emailed me back a few times. He always keeps it real on stage and hilarious. Henry Cho. Margaret Cho. Bobby Lee. Jo Koy. Asian Comedian Mt. Rushmore for me. They paved the way for all the Asian comedians. They were bold. They are a big reason why I started doing stand up comedy. They let me believe and they're all beasts on stage.
As an Australian of part Chinese descent I can honestly say Henry's southern drawl took me aback at first. I shouldn't be surprised though as some of my Australian Chinese aunties have the strongest Aussie accents ever as they grew up out in country NSW.
Henry Cho is more southern than I am and my family moved to Talladega, AL 176 years ago!
This guy’s a hoot! 😂
Henry is the best. Jonely Bonely is one of the funniest gags ever!
This was soooo funny!
AMAZING 🎉🎉🎉
This dude is Awesome 😂😂😂
Dude sounded like he should have cowboy boots n hat on. He sounds more southern than me 😂
Haven't seen him for 25 years.
Love the Hawaiian Wheel of Fortune joke.
Im a Korean living in rural Florida..no matter where I go, I get looks..like they have never seen a Korean farmer before!! Lol
Japanese and why I left rural FL...
Im Korean too and damn I went to Arkansas... Damn, i got mad looks too LOL
Cho looks older, but he's still cute.
Hot stuff, Henry. I'm glad to see you again.
I have enjoyed Henry Cho since "... when are they going to 'Boldlygo'...?"
He's funny!
Three minutes and had me rolling.
How am I just NOW finding Henry Cho? Thanks, internet!
I love Henry Cho's comedy. I live in Hawaii and we have a lot of loans living here.
Man, i haven't seen you in so long I thought you were dead. Haven't seen you on tv since the 80s.
Saw Henry while I was in college thirty five years ago. I wonder if he ever got around to mowing Ron.
