The dreo air circulator is an impressive little fan, blows harder than the vornado. But the coolest feature is being able to control which way it points from a mobile app! This is a sponsored video.
Discount codes shown in the video have expired, however, there is a new discount:

Only 1 year warranty? Hard pass.
I never thought you'd make an only fans video, but here we are 😂
Bravo sir.
You win the internet today sir!!
World class comment. 10/10.
Excellent
Hahaha perfect 😂
You have to respect Dreo for just sending Matthias products knowing full well he's going to be brutally honest. Next time I'm in the market for something they make, they'll be at the top of my list
I think it's not a fair comparison. He could have used one of the Vornado DC circulators for the test and the comparison would be different. And if someone is sent a product for a test and comparison, and also advertises it for a promotion... 🤨
@@hanno8705 But in that case the Vornado is probably much more expensive than the Dreo.
Mad props to Matthias, I had never heard of Dreo prior to this sponsorship partnership but he’s done more to sell me on their products than an entire Apple keynote.
How you make better and more entertaining sponsored videos than Billy Mays while being honest at the same time is truly impressive. Dreo certainly got their money's worth.
Respectfully Matthias, I think a fairer comparison would've been the Vornado 633DC "Energy Smart" fan which also uses a brushless DC motor and is the same price at $99. The Vornado also has a 10 year warranty. The Dreo does have nice features of its own (remote control, app control, and a breakdown design for cleaning) but Dreo is a newer company and it remains to be seen how their long term customer support is. I've used Vornados for about 15 years now and still and use my original 15 year old 510 compact fan. If and when my Vornados break down, I'll definitely look at a Dreo for comparison. Thanks for the video.
No experts on vornado fans. I just picked one that was the same size and the same price.
If it's the same price then it's a fair comparison.
@@JovemEverton How is it fair when the motors are completely different? That's like comparing a Tesla vs. a similarly priced internal combustion engine and saying it's fair because they cost the same.
People who don't understand this stuff will see that the Vornado fans draws 53 watts at the highest setting and the equivalent setting on the Dreo uses around 27W and think the Dreo's obviously better not realizing that an AC motor is being compared to a brushless DC. Vornado has brushless DC motors in some of their fans. Matthias stated his only requirement is that they were the same size/price but there is a comparable DC motor version - that wasn't used.
If this was a fair test it would be the Vornado 633DC (9" blade diameter, brushless DC motor, $99 msrp) vs this Dreo (9" blade diameter, brushless DC motor, $99 msrp) - Don't forget the Vornado has a 10 year warranty by a company that's been around since 1945 too.
@@JovemEverton It's technically fair but it is kinda misleading when they have a more similar offering at the same price point as the dreo.
@@SandyMachoManRavage I do agree that fan you list is a much better comparison, though that also begs the question, why do Vornado still sell the equally priced but likely worse AC motor model. The warranty and support pedigree would definitely be a plus for the Vornado in my mind too.
Why I'm even replying is to disagree with your point with the cars, and price-point comparisons in general. To me, comparing a Tesla and an equally priced ICE car is completely fair and valid. After all, if I have X amount of money to spend on a car, I don't (have to) care about what is under the hood. If I like the 0-60, fuel efficiency, range, manufacturing quality (or whatever other aspect of a car I care about) of one of the cars better, I should buy that one, regardless of what technology it uses to achieve those characteristics.
Also, extending the car analogy to this video, it would be similar if the maker of the ICE car also sold an equally priced EV. It is likely that the EV would be a closer match on many aspects to the Tesla than the ICE car, definitely, but I think it is unlikely that a prospective car buyer would make a decision on what car to buy after watching just one 1v1 comparison video.
That is perhaps the thing that I would change about this review. Having never heard of Vornado, the video left me under the impression that the Vornado fan in the video is The Vornado and not one of Vornado's offerings, with others being available that might match the Dreo. Intentionally or otherwise, I don't know, but trust Matthias enough to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I love your product testing. Even when sponsored, your tests are very comparative at actually testing what the product is. Makes me want to get a Dreo even though I dont really need a new fan.
Your video editing skills are really picking up, seeing the past 10 or so videos they all have really smart transitions and cut down on dead time. Great as always!
Awesome video! I was looking for this exact comparison of these two models and you delivered with exceptional detail. Thank you!
It's good that the fan has an app to control custom settings and features, but doesn't *need* the app to give you good out-the-box functionality :)
I like your style, both quantitative and qualitative testing conducted! A+
I can totally see a use for the app control thing. I have a combine living/dining area and having 1 fan be able to blow air in a specific section of the house sounds great.
Also to annoy my dogs.
Old fans could do that too - you just had to walk your ass the whole 10 steps over to them to point them the way you wanted it to go, and they didn't cost $100, but c'est le vie
The 4W on the lowest speed is impressive.
I just bought one. Thanks!
I've been looking for a new bedside fan!
All the smart features are cool. But your demo really sold me. I've NEVER bought any sponsored things from CZcams videos before.
Good job! Thanks!
it might be a bit strong for a bedside fan
@@matthiasrandomstuff2221I live in South Texas. Might not be strong enough!
You made me get one by say that
Thank you for helping me decide how I'm staying cool this year! I appreciate you for taking the time to make this video!
Amazing. I just instinctively went with the Dreo over the Vornado and this was all I needed! Cheers :)
This was super easy to set up and hang up. czcams.com/users/postUgkxclitHMewQyK8ao1RdWQ7Bt5ZZcLG0bWH Fairly quite considering it’s a fan. The versatility is great for me. It gets really warm in my bathroom and this keeps me cool while I’m getting ready in the mornings. When I need it to blow in a different direction I have no problems moving it around. Highly recommended!
Love the ending Matthias!
Really enjoy the ideas you come up with for testing, reminds me of the way Project Farm does his testing. No fancy lab their either. Keep 'um coming. JimE
Control system would be very useful when mounted hanging from ceiling or in roof space.
I purchased the Dreo Pilot Pro after watching you videos. The thing is easily the best fan I’ve ever owned. We live in humid Minnesota, now I can use my air conditioner less.
Great info! Thanks for sharing just in time for the hot weather
Been looking for one since mine burned out this review just decided which one to get should have my new fan in tomorrow. Thanks Mathias for making the decision easy for me.
Didn't think it would be possible to be this interested in a fans performance... but your video captured my attention all throughout!
Since I own two, I can say for certain that the brushless Vornado is probably just as good as the Dreo here. The brushless Vornado also is made out of nicer material and has an analog speed dial which I really like.
I love this channel!!!! An entire wall of plastic strips would've been interesting.
Thanks for the review and explanation delivered in different ways to make sure your audience understood… ❤
Thank you this was amazing! I had need of a fan for a specific project and this was exactly the information I needed!!
such a fun comparison, love your thoughtful testing. never thought i'd watch a whole video comparing fans like this but here we are! thank you!
That was a fun (and informative) comparison. We have 2 Vornados in the house (one that is at least 20+ years old), but I'm going to look into that Dreo tower fan, and the desk-top model.
I love it!! You're so funny! I got my Dreo! Thanks for the discount! 👏👏👏👏
Great finish!
That pan / tilt function is begging for stage work. An LED, plumbed in fog source, and you have a pretty epic sweeping beam!
I love the thorough review. The electricity usage is huge for people that run off batteries. Maybe campers or anyone with solar power stations
So, this was Fantastic...
Holy shit these test are very smart. I would a channel dedicated only of you testing stuff, it's very interesting to see the thought process and the ways you use your knowledge to find answers. It's pretty amazing to be honest.
Don’t say the Lords name in vain
11:49 - It's great to see you do a video of a fan meetup!
Drew does seem to make high quality products. Thanks for the review
Unbelievable. I was watching ur pantorouter stuff years ago, nice to run into you again shopping for a fan.
I love your product testing. You always come up some clever ideas.
Agreed, Matthias's sponsored content is arguably better than most other channels' main content
Vornado also has DC-motor based fans in their line-up that perform much better regarding power efficiency at lower levels.
For the EU 230v version of the 633DC, I've measured 2W at the minimum speed which also happens to be delightfully quiet.
Taking it apart, all that I found in that unit is one potentiometer, an ac to 24v dc power brick and a motor unit that is smart enough to control the fan speed based on the voltage provided by that potentiometer. Conceivably, one could probably retrofit those with Wi-Fi capabilities as well. At least there's a lot of space for an ESP8266 or similar in that case
Maybe a look at those models could be an interesting follow-up video?
Yeah but at what co$t?
Nice to see vornado have some competition on the high end, you can get clones for half the price.
Also Oyhama fans are really good. There are also some made in France.
Hey @Matthias I am a long time subscriber, I have bought a few of your plans from your website. I have one of the Vornado fans. I agree with most of your review of the fan. I do however, disagree that you cannot feel it elsewhere in the room. If you read their directions it says to point the fan away from you and have the air bounce around the room. Mixing it. We have one in the bedroom and it does a good job in the summer to mix the air in the room. We have the exact same model and our bedroom is 25x15x8. Anyways, based on your review of the Dreo fan. I just received ours in the mail today from this video recommending it. I highly enjoy it so far. I bought it solely on your positive review. Also, since it only uses 24v compared to 110. Oscillates vertically and horizontally. Plus all the other features. I also liked the fact that the speed 2 is equal to 1, and quieter than the Vornado. Tonight will be the first night. looking forward to it! Thanks, bmich
Absolutely never thought I'd see a desk fan video so in depth it rivaled Digital Foundry 's level of detail for game analyses
As someone who enjoys cycling indoors when the weather is bad or I can't stray from a napping baby, the remote features of the Dreo have proper value. I think you've sold me on my next upgrade if I decide to swap out my Lasko blower.
Very nice testing. Seeing it running that well on 12V Dreo should concider adding an adapter for Cars/EVs :)
I was so close to buy Dyson fan but your quality and structured review made me want to buy Dreo asap and save a whole lot of money with better quality!!!! Very well made review video explaining noise level, the physics, how much I can save with electricity bill, plus the comparison with other cheap fans. Thank you so much for your thorough review, saved my hot summer 😊 I only wish all other reviews are as thorough as your review!! Thank you for your effort. Doesn’t matter if this video is sponsored or not. Honest and fair review❤
Fascinating! You have some of the most entertaining videos on CZcams. Loved how you ended this one.😂
Sold. Just bout one from your link. Thanks for the review and info. I know I can trust you.
That 3-D feature would be very useful in wine cellars or museum storage rooms or library archives or art storage vaults. What you want there is "uniformity" in what are un-occupied spaces that have very low-but often highly asymmetric-heating and cooling loads. One wall, or the ceiling or the floor is often far cooler or hotter than others, leading to stratification of both temperature and humidity and hot and cold spots, with unfortunate consequences for closely-packed documents and art work. The 3-D feature could ensure air mixing and therefore greater temperature uniformity at very low first cost and energy cost cost compared to a high-capacity air handler running constantly.
I've been very happy with my Dreo Macro Pro since your video last spring (I just wish the filters were cheaper. Unfortunately, none of the manufacturers list exact filter dimensions so that I could easily look for alterantives.)
It's been neat seeing more products from them reviewed by you. As other comments have said, I'm glad they're willing to put their hardware to the test so confidently like this. Very sleek designs. Currently my only Vornado product is a room heater, but my impression has been that they make some of the best performing home fans on the market. Interesting to see that they finally have a worthy competitor! Thank you for comparing and sharing!
Wow, that's ridiculous how drastic the power efficiency differences are! Clever test rig! Beautifully done!
Speaking of Dreo's air filters, if possible and feasible for you, I'd love to see a comparison of their filter types. Looks like they have four available now, at least for cylindrical type. Originally they only had a "classic" H13 with activated charcoal and a coarse mesh screen pre-filter. Now it seems they also have ones labeled for "Allergy", "Smoke", and "Toxin" filtration, and I'm really not sure what the differences in performance actually are, nor if they're worth an extra $5-10.
We have a much older (15 years?) Vornado which has just three speed settings. We use it in a medium sized room and never need to go to the highest setting. If I wanted to move the air around in a much larger room I'd definitely consider the Dreo.
Just put 2 $20 box fans in an upstairs window, and it will air out the whole house. Just crack the windows open were you want airflow in - it's really not that difficult
I have a Vornado smart window fan circulator. Best window fan that I've ever had. The Alexa compatibility makes it very convenient to go from exhaust to direct and set the speeds. I just bought the same Dreo as shown. Yeah, without a doubt it is the best tabletop fan ever. It also works with Alexa, which is very nice.
The ability for it to run on a "wide voltage range" is really neat. It would be super useful to make a little 19/20v powertool battery adapter for it, or run it off of a UPS battery directly without going through the inefficient inverter.
great video. Thank you, sir.
the programming part of the fan is very useful. right now I have a bunch of temperature probes that do the same thing for me.
If Dreo was hoping to convert Vornado customers to Dreo customers in the Canadian market using your factual demonstration, it worked. I just ordered the Dreo fan using your Amazon link.
Thanks!
Fascinating!
i would have a use for this when I'm doing indoor bike training and the fan is not quite angled properly or blowing too hard or too low depending on the effort I'm putting in. Adjusting that on the fly would be awesome because when you start your workout you don't really have the opportunity to set it up again. I'm really thinking about getting one for next winter!
And here I am in the market for a fan. Let's try the Dreo!
Update: Very nice fan, excellent airflow, and very quiet. Would recommend, and would buy again.
Fantastic!
I am a fan collector and I find this pretty interesting!
Awesome video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
this is how marketing should be taught it school. honest good product combined with honest review.
Wow, nice job on that force-measuring device!
Despite being an ad this was very interesting!
Good testing with the measurements and stuff 👍
Even though the dreo is quieter I’m not sure it’s blowing as much air
If you were to add more ducted capacity to the box fan would it do better? Or maybe alter it to be rounded? As an air cleaner/filter the dreo should do well?
Haha, "blows the competition away"! Nice sponsor!
I like that you cushioned the Vornado in its fall, though.
important, because getting that shot right took four takes!
@@matthiasrandomstuff2221: Oh, I understand! It was a... "COOL"... ending, haha! 😁 (I wish I had thought I was saying this part in the main comment!)
im in the market for a fan and im buying a Dreo exclusively cuz of these vids. Shoutout to the Dreo marketing team.
These types of sponsored videos with actual testing are super helpful. The dero tower fans are expensive but my cheap tower fans keep breaking in a year or less so I've spent more than just buying one and they allow you to easily clean the blower cage with a single screw grill which is very helpful. The brushless dc motors are also way way better than the cheap ac motors in most fans they are basically giant pc fans which makes them quite a bit safer too.
The comparison should be between the DC motor versions of both. Vornado 633dc would be a fair fight. Lots of very impressive test methods. Too bad you didn't compare comparable products.
Wish I could get these in Canada! Hopefully they will release here soon.
I was surprised Matthias reviewed a product I can't even order from Canada
I just love the attention you give to your fans ❤😂
May I request a full review of the dreo? I am really interested to hear your thoughts on how well a circulation fan work to cool down a room.
Dreo fans also disassemble by removing 1 screw which makes cleaning them super easy. We have 2 now and love them. If you cool your home with window AC units a good circulation fan will come in handy.
I appreciate the video and purchased a Dreo fan (the model I bought was the Lynx S). I have a Vornado 533DC currently but wanted something as powerful or more than that. I ran a similar test and my results were the complete opposite. I returned the Dreo because is was under powered. Just wanted to let everyone know that the Lynx S is not the model to go with
.
Congratulations I’m officially a fan!!!
Now just hook it to a PI with motion tracking camera and boom, video controlled draft :D
12:59 You trying not to burst into laughter in your sales pitch 🤣💕👏👍
The dreo's ability to change positions automatically is nice. I like bounding the air off walls instead of directing it towards a person. Dreo seems to be a good option to keep it on all day long for nice air movement. I wonder if there is a good way to have one in each side of the house to control air movement.
After a video like this I'm sure Dreo is a fan of your testing
This is fan-tastic!
Could be useful to programme a blow path around the polytunnel/greenhouse if it gets mega hot and there is no wind.
Sounds like it already has temp sensors but does it also measure humidity?
Lovely vid as always - nicht nur heiße Luft ;-)
Love the fixture with the movable, swiveling base and the scale. Great comparison. (Was it fair to use part of a dreo box for the test?)
Wow being able to program it would be amazing. I’d love to have the air circulating before I got home.
Matthias, will that Dreo still perform all its functions if it was upside down? Like if you mounted the base to the ceiling.
Matthias has a lot of fans, in more ways than 1!
Excellent testing, Matthias! Thanks! 😃
Well, in case you never post another video... I guess we know what happened. 😬
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
The ending was funny!
Love the slippers
Vornado’s claim to circulate all the air in the room wasn’t really tested here. You tested the fans’ forward blowing power quite well, and the Dreo is a clear winner there.
In your diagram showing how more turbulence with increased distance results in more circulation started to get close to the (claimed!) difference in vornado’s design vs other fans. Vornado is not designed for direct blowing. In their manual, they say it should be placed at the edge/corner of a room and aimed at the opposite edge/corner, or whatever gets you the max distance of unimpressed airflow. It’s supposed to create a vortex, a “whirlpool” effect, that drags on the rest of the air in the room and circulates it that way, rather than relying on chaotic turbulence.
It’s an elegant design if it works, I have no idea if it does or how much difference it makes. I have seen a vornado model prove that it creates a vortex: we aimed it directly up and placed a whiffle ball in the middle. It floats in the air column instead of being blown off to the side like you’d expect. I’d be curious to know if the Dreo does the same thing since the case designs look so similar. If it does, than the Dreo will outperform the vornado since it’ll create the same conditions and blow harder. Vornado might still be under patent though, so it won’t surprise me if it doesn’t work.
I have hyperhidrosis so keeping cool is important to me. I’m buying the Dreo using your affiliate link now because I was expecting it to be 5x the price. Thx!
Just bought it using your affiliate link. Hope you get a little kick back. Thanks for sharing!
Hello from the netherlands! Loved ur videos, just stumbled accross them. I live in the netherlands. Does dreo come with a 230v adaptor or do i need to get a Yurop specific?
I have had a Vornado for 20 years. It got knocked off the table recently, and I was pleased to be able to replace the broken grill from them at a fair price. Does Dreo offer parts? Never really heard of them.
😁 I really liked this.
I had never heard of Dreo, and I’ve always loved Vornado, but as someone who just cannot sleep without a fan, and actually WANTS noise, I’m going to have to buy a Dreo and test it out!
Could you also compare the noise of the fans relative to their air movement?
Got to say, I am a fan of fan videos.
power scales with the velocity squared, so the anemometer readings indicate almost double the wind power from the Dreo.
yes there is that. but the dreo”s air stream is a bit tighter. the total thrust measurements didn’t show as big a difference.
