    Got a chance to check out these laser blasters from the number one industrial supplier for laser tag equipment and see if the consumer grade guts are just as good.
    Its a super interesting entrant into a category that many of us have written off as stale and I'm super excited to see how the gameplay develops with more options and players on the field.

    The idea that you can set up these different cardboard skins around the battlefield as loot is really neat. The fact that they’re cheaper than making entirely new blasters I think makes it a unique and viable gameplay feature

    Still waiting for a true spiritual successor to Battle Tag… while I think the weapon-swapping gimmick is cool and the system uses sensors separate from the phasers (which is a *huge* step up from the typical infomercial set), there still isn’t a system that’s as fleshed-out or as well-done as Battle Tag. Full upper-body sensor vests, Worker Swift-level build quality, NFC sensors for ammo reloading and objective points, DOZENS of game modes with varying degrees of customization, support for up to eight players, and real-time PC-based score tracking - only an actual laser tag facility can compare. It’s a shame that Ubisoft ruined Battle Tag’s chances the moment they decided to show it on-stage at E3 one year…

    • @zachtos2

    I love the cardboard shells and weapon rarity idea. Finding new shells and getting a legendary item or whatever sounds like a blast. Cus while 3D printing is ofc an option its far from ideal.

    Imagine if we could do this with nerf, it would be modulus 2.0 and it would be glorious.
    Edit: after some thinking I figured out that might work. The core would be a select fire strife with a worker lightning storm stock because of its compactness and simple design. There would be three “forms” a sniper rifle, a shotgun, and an M4 rifle. The special guns would be barrel attachments with pegs that tell the gun what it is, sort of like the lego Mario power up system. The sniper would have max flywheel power but it’s semi auto and every 6 shots you have to press the mag release to continue using the gun. The shotgun would be 3-round burst with the lowest flywheel power of all three of them but it has a capacity of 12 darts to make up for the low power of the gun. The M4 is full auto with a capacity of 10 darts and medium flywheel power. And that is my proposal for a system like this, give me suggestions if you think something is in need of changes.

      I feel like the advantage of this system is that it referees itself. When nerfing there's inevitably an argument about who tagged who. Also the rarity rolling and getting increased luck with more tags is just not possible with nerf

  • @rokushou
    @rokushou Před 2 lety +7

    I don't like how all the code is on the blaster, but you have to buy the skin for the chip to unlock it. I would much rather have a setting/switch to toggle through the gun types with the skins being purely cosmetic or an alternate way to swap guns. Smells a bit like the "toys to life" (e.g. skylanders, amiibo) model where they sell you a game and expect you to keep buying physical add-ons to unlock all it has to offer.

    • @benjaminsuckow833
      @benjaminsuckow833 Před 2 lety +8

      Good point, but I think this is a good application for the toys to life concept. If you want to have a "battle royale" and you just have a switch, what's stopping someone from just switching to the best version? This adds some luck into the game, which can make it more exciting for some. A switch would be better for two brothers playing in their backyard, but for a whole neighborhood battle I think this is the way to go. Plus the skins just look, and according to drac, feel awesome.

    • @rokushou
      @rokushou Před 2 lety +2

      @@benjaminsuckow833 Like I said in my comment, a skin could be an alternate way to switch. You could have game modes that lock out switching on the blaster or even limit what weapons you can switch to like shotty snipers. I'll spare you my thoughts on the "battle royale" genre, but it feels like they're just trying to cash in on the Fortnite trend.

    • @zachtos2
      @zachtos2 Před 2 lety

      @@rokushou there are more game modes. You can replicate counter strike by dropping your gun in place on death. Also the best part of a skin is the ability to identify the threat. Zig zag if you see a sniper, or stay back from a shotty. Add some field objectives later and there is more coming.

    • @rokushou
      @rokushou Před 2 lety +1

      @@zachtos2 I wasn't complaining about not enough game modes, I was saying the ability to switch guns without skins could be limited to keep all current game modes viable. I understand there are benefits to the skins, I would just like to also have the option to play with gun types when you don't own the skin.

    • @RyanZibell
      @RyanZibell Před 2 lety +1

      @@rokushou also, if everything was on board the blaster/tagger, they would be charging a dam sight more than $80 US for the base model. A lot of the older laser tag sets from the 90's and early 2000's would be able to be "shot" by pointing a TV remote at them and pressing a button to fire an IR beam at them. That was my first thought. They might think about the style of plastic used in collapsible boxes and replace the tape with velcro. It should hopefully increase durability, but it would probably raise the price.

    The Light Strike nostalgia hit me like a truck with this one, only flaw being they went for the dumb chonky M4 for the rifle instead of an original design that would've worked better with the boxy aesthetic

    a lense to turn the shotgun beam into a tapered cone would be cool, and would natural effect range.

      That is actually how it works! There's several different kind of emitters on the gun and the different skins will trigger the different emitters.

    • @zachtos2
      @zachtos2 Před 2 lety +1

      yes. when you tag a player, you hear a ping on the first shot if you are on sight. helps you to know if you are aiming properly. the sniper auto pings before fire.

    This would have been a lot cooler if the skins were made of plastic instead of cardboard! Even a cheap plastic shell would be far more durable than cardboard, which will get wet, crushed, trampled, etc. For how insanely expensive these are I'm quite surprised they went with cardboard. (A 2 player set with the headbands, aka the minimum possible option to be able to play a game of laser tag with these blasters, costs *$270 USD!!!* Not including all the skins!!! Yikes! You can get the pheonix LTX tagger 2-pack from amazon for $80 USD. It won't have the skins gimmick, but that's a *hefty* pricetag to pay for cardboard.)
