Sjin is innocent, and yet, due to the unstoppable force of the internet jumping to conclusions and having a guilty until proven innocent rule, he's had to leave the Yogscast for his own mental health. It's understandable why this whole deal with Sjin is still so frustrating and controversial after the final decision (much more so than with Caff and Turps) and it's NOT just because of how popular Sjin is.
It's because this whole thing is far less concrete than with Caff or Turps.
Caff basically ran away and then Turps put out that statement that "We have removed his channels from our CZcams CMS and have requested Twitch remove his channels from association with the Yogscast. He is no longer part of the Yogscast collective."
In Turps' case, he made the statement that "I have sent some inappropriate messages to several members of our community and I’m deeply embarrassed about this error of judgement. There’s no justification or excuse for my behaviour." and Lewis stating Turps "made the right decision to face up to his actions."
With Sjin he made the statement:
"Just to let you know, I’m stepping away from The Yogscast after 8 years. It’s been an intense few weeks for everybody but I believe this is the best way forward. For a long time I’ve chatted privately with community members but I’ve come to realise this behaviour might not be considered appropriate by everybody. I’m really sorry if my actions have caused any upset to anyone. I'm going to be taking a lot more time off but plan to continue making content independently one day when I'm ready."
That is not an admission of being guilty of the serious accusations against him and Lewis has stated that: "I know that some here are expecting an “innocent” or “guilty” verdict but it’s more complicated than that." (something I don't think he would be so wishy washy on if the serious accusations were true).
There isn't the same level of acceptance of being guilty/condemnation as with the other 2 cases. There also isn't much evidence available to us right now (and what evidence is available could easily be fake and hasn't really been verified) and there isn't much for credible statements from those involved in the investigation besides that of a long time mod (which doesn't automatically mean their statements are to be viewed as entirely factual/without bias or anywhere near as reliable as a statement from Lewis, etc.)
People say that Sjin stepping down is proof he's entirely guilty (and that Lewis allowing him to leave the Yogscast is proof he's entirely guilty, despite Lewis saying that it's more complicated that guilty or innocent) but Sjin could have easily simply not been able to deal with the allegations anymore (and not been able to deal with how much they were harming the Yogscast) and decided to step down (even if the actually true accusations weren't severe enough to warrant stepping down).
Until someone trusted (like Lewis, etc.) makes a more concrete statement, Sjin admits more to what he did, or completely verified evidence is provided, we're all in limbo here.

Just wanted to add that Sjin stepping down was really the only path for him at this point. If he had stayed in the yogscast the whirlwind of outrage would have continued to build and eventually ruin him and irreparably damage the yogscast.
Now that he’s stepped down hopefully people will look at what he allegedly did objectively instead of emotionally. Hopefully this will help him retain some of his audience.

Sjins statement was embarrassing. He knows he made a mistake but he can’t own up to it, saying “some people may have found my behavior inappropriate”. I love Sjin too, he is one of my favorite Yogscast members but that doesn’t give him a free pass from his actions. Celebrities shouldn’t use their power to flirt or make friends with fans, it’s an unbalanced dynamic.

I can sympathize with Simon though, I tend to make jokes about bad situations in order to get through them. Poor guy has been through hell and back these past few months, and I'm sure it doesn't help to see the reddit's reaction. @@DrLennieSmall the people were of age, (as far as i know none were below 16 the age of consent in the UK) and he got fired mainly for breaking their code of conduct. seems after turps and caff they just have a zero tolerance policy for this stuff
@@jamesrothery4013 Just to clarify, though 16 is the age of consent, 18 is still the age of majority. So even if they're 17 they're still minors. This also means if he did send or receive nudes he either supplied pornography to a minor, or asked for and received for child porn, both of which are extremely serious offences. Plus even if he didn't, he it could still be harassment, as they are not 'consenting adults'

I really hate this situation even though it was Sjin's idea(correct me if I'm wrong). I just hope that even though they can't make content together for now, they still stay good friends. The friendship between the members of the yogscast are what drew me in and one of the main reasons why I love them.
I'm sure Duncan and some the guys will still make videos with him now and then, he's just not a member anymore

It doesn't really put anything into perspective. It essentially comes down to some guy saying "well I have a bunch of really incriminating evidence, but I'm not going to share it with anyone so please just believe me." He talks as if there's some kind of privacy issue which is why he can't release this horde of evidence he has, but then gives it to Lewis? So he's willing to share it with Lewis but not the authorities. What that says to me is that Sjin didn't actually do anything illegal and the only thing he can do is give what he has to Lewis and hope Sjin steps down. Another reason I think he isn't willing to share evidence is that it's not as bad as he's making it out to be. This way nobody can judge how bad it is for themselves and we all have to just take him on his word.
Also there's a discord message where he mentions that when told that flirting with a 17 year old is legal in the UK he responds with "well, I don't care it's creepy anyway." Yeah, someone should lose their livelihood because they seem "creepy" to you. Doesn't exactly paint him out to be an entirely objective party in this whole thing.

Man, after 2 years I only just found out about this today. I was watching this dread hunger video and I remembered how Sjin would troll a lot and so I searched his channel up and noticed he only posted a few days ago and then I saw a title saying something like “CZcams creep returns” and my heart sunk. It’s a real shame but I’m glad that the yogscast acted properly about this. Sexual allegations are a complete mess and probably one of the worse things that can happen to a community. At present its probably best if he does not return (atleast to main channel videos) but I think it’s up to the yogscast on that since I know little about the situation

Magitroopa nah, F for the people hurt by him. Don’t get me wrong, I loved Sjin. He was a piece of my childhood. Those videos of him building Erebor? Some of my happiest memories. Same with the Jaffa Factory sagas and Yogsquest, so many great memories. But what he did doesn’t look good, and I feel bad for those hurt, and feel bad for loving a monster all these years. Hopefully the Yogs can move forward. Hopefully no one else from my childhood turns out to be a monster.

Quinbulance there is currently likely an ongoing investigation going on as the Yogs handed info over to authorities. Long time Yogs moderators who originally broke the Caff story have confirmed that what Sjin did was on par with Caff and many details are being withheld for legal reasons.

Sjin gets some dirt on him that is 1.) Nowhere near as bad as Turps/Caff's actions 2.) Not illegal and 3.) are STILL "allegations" despite nearly a decade of this being dug up; but the pressure forced on him by the company still got him to resign.

I felt like I was gonna cry watching this video, they just seemed so sad. I liked sjin and I don’t know if it’s been proven that the accusations are true but I remember Lewis saying it’s a lot more complicated than innocent of guilty.
More often than not the accusations are false. Many of these are attempts to destroy a Man's livelihood, and it usually succeeds, because if people don't relent to the accuser they'll face the community Mob, no matter the actual truth. Once the accusation was made his fate was sealed.
@@MikMoenThis is untrue. Sjin waa accused previously and Lewis dismissed them out of hand. Nothing came of it and most people are unaware of it occurring. Then, accusations were raised again, except this time the evidence was far more damning. The fact that Bouphe and Gee both came out against Sjin is what tipped the scales for me. They were relatively new members with small followings. I find it extremely unlikely they would put their careers in such a precarious position just for clout. Add to that MightyClaw’s insight and you’ve got a cut and dry case.
Sjin’s exit was likely to prevent further drama, possibly as a sign of goodwill towards his former friends, by causing as little fuss as possible. It is not a signifier of his guilt or innocence.

The problem I have is if the Yogs have things in place to protect the community, they should also have stuff in place to protect the creators to stop this kind of situation happening in the first place. It really is a shame and i hope they put things in place to stop this happening again whether guilty or not.
The thing in place to protect creators is the very same policy. It's pretty clear you shouldn't chat up people with this kind of relationship, what is there to gain for the huge risk? If the yogscast had covered it up they are betting on the future of the company
@@ALittleMessi i never said they should cover it up, it should be bought to light as it is very wrong. However, clearly the current things in place are not effective enough and need to be improved. The creators should never be put in a situation where this situation becomes an option, for both the creators sake and communities sake. After all they are only human and unfourtunately mankind is easily swayed but its own worth and gain. Especially when thrust into a position of influence, the actions they have commited are completely wrong but they should never have been given the oppurtunity to use their influence in this way or atleast something should be inplace to reduce the risk e.g. Courses that teach people how to handle this influence and how to deal with certain situations etc. Ofcourse i agree there is always the persons nature to consider after all free will is inevitable.

~Just in the spirit of discussion, I'm reposting this comment since I realized I had buried it 18 replies beneath another comment.~
I'm sure we're all in agreement that no reasonable person would dismiss allegations if there is real evidence. A person is innocent until proven guilty. We - the public - haven't seen evidence, so in our eyes Sjin must still be innocent, right? They should just release all of the information they have, right?
No. Because that's not how you handle a situation like this professionally. False accusations do exist. So does harassment of victims despite actual evidence.
That's why everything is being handled behind the scenes and they have an unbiased 3rd party conducting the investigations, and it is unlikely that we will see even a fraction of the evidence. We aren't part of the Yogs, and we're not unbiased professionals who are treating the evidence against Sjin the same way they treated the evidence against Caff and Turps.
Come to think about it, there wasn't nearly as much uproar when Caff and Turps got caught vs now with Sjin. In fact with Caff, I saw quite a few people outright stating their negative opinions of him, as if they had distrusted him from the beginning - as if something had always been "off" about him. Points such as this show that the community should have no say in how these matters are handled, because rules should apply to everyone equally, but the community is not applying them equally to everyone. We've got favorites, and whether it is intentional or not, we're letting that color our arguments.
In the end we have to realize that just as much as we want everything to continue being fun and carefree, so do Lewis and the rest of the Yogs. We have to trust that the decisions they are making aren't being made lightly. We have to trust that some real shit that had come to light before making these decisions and that none of this is happening without reason. We're the community and the Yogs aren't our personal friends. We have to trust that these guys and gals, who are friends and have been friends for years, are being hit harder by all of this than us.
And for the record, I loved watching Sjin in almost everything he appeared in, whether it was on the main channel, on his own, or otherwise. On a daily basis I've caught myself wishing he hadn't left because he was such a cool, funny dude. I find myself wishing none of this had come to light - and that's actually pretty fucked up because if the evidence exists (and I have to trust that it does) then he absolutely should be facing consequences no matter how much I think he's cool or funny. I'm fucking biased and that's why I'm arguing that we should trust the Yogs, accept that Sjin is gone, and get on with grieving.
You don't "have to trust that it does" exist. The point of innocent until proven guilty is that, in the absence of evidence, you assume innocence. And evidence is absent. Maybe it exists, but I'm not going to trust shit before it is shown. Trusting that evidence exists without being shown it is a very dangerous mindset. If we judge Sjin guilty without evidence, that proves to millions of fans that a few allegations is all it takes to destroy someone's career, or even someone's entire life. The fucked up thing is that people are already judging Sjin guilty. If they're gonna reveal a scandal, they should reveal it all. Instead they chose to put the thought in our heads without confirming or denying it. They handled this very poorly. Whether the evidence exists or not, Sjin will have lost a big part of his fanbase and will probably never recover. They should have just said "Sjin has left the yogscast for reasons we cannot disclose" or whatever.

If I'm not mistaken Sjin already had these accusations against him years ago and was allowed to stay due to how minor his actions where. The fact that these accusations are coming back up is likely due to turps and caff. I don't believe sjin is completely innocent. But I also don't believe he deserves what he is getting. I think he decided to step down because all of the pressure from everybody was likely putting him in a horrible state of mind. Until more evidence arrives or a member of the yogs states his guilt I will choose to believe he doesn't deserve what he's getting although not completely innocent
The accusations aren't new, thought people were aware of his somewhat shady past. Came across it a few years ago by pure accident. Don't know any of the details, but they should've dealt with it back then if it really is this serious, not now again. Though they probably got some new evidence, we might never know, which changes the situation. If not, well...
The situation around Caff and Turps doesn't help, but most importantly the general thought of the public has changed over the years. What was "acceptable" a few years ago, isn't now.

Information is relevant to everyone, by offering none and defending the lack of information you leave only one possible response through logic. You have no proof anyone is guilty so you can't assume guilt unless you're willing to believe my "claim" above.

Lewis hinted at it in his official statement and one of the long time Yog mods who is heavily involved in the situation has come out and said that the situation is much worse than people seem to think but how much can be made explicitly public is limited. It’s funny to look back at these old videos. I don’t think referring to Sjin as “our boy” would be seen as acceptable now that Bouphe and Gee have come forward. Of course, they were only confirming what’s been known for years, but for some people, it took that.

Even then, accuser of what? These email screenshots have seemingly been purged from the internet. I cannot find anything that truly accuses sjin of anything at all. They all refer to "allegations", "inappropriate behaviour", some nebulous things he has done. For all their dislike of sjin, they do seem to go above and beyond to protect him by not actually saying it. It's interesting looking back on this as It was definitely the right call. Sjin may have given people good memories over the years and it's perfectly valid to still enjoy them but you have to face the consequences if you're guilty of any sexual misconduct.

A couple of years ago people claimed that sjin was flirting with viewers while having a video, nothing came from this cause their was no actual evidence, now they wanted to look back on it with a 3rd party due to the caff an led turps stuff. Many, many girls including underage fans reported his behavior over the years about him being inappropriate over social media and in person, even trying to take them back to his hotel at conventions etc, His ex came forward saying really bad stuff he supposedly did meeting with underage fans and she got ignored, and can't remember who but a yogs memeber said on a video about a bag with underwear in at the office that he tried stealing(can't remember exactly), and most of these incidents had screenshots of conversations or evidence to suggest he did.
But people at the yogscast ignored it for years on end and passed it off as rumours and just fake stories without really looking into them.
Then because of the caffcast situation they investigated everyone at the yogscast using a private investigator, but Sjin refused to be investigated and instantly quit and gave up his whole career and income so he could keep whatever he did wrong hidden, But the yogscast mods on reddit that looked into and interacted with fans claims said it really was worse than it looked on the surface and he was a "disturbed monster".

The thing I really hate about this situation is how every one on reddit and twitter and even former employees of the yogscast all judge guilty until proven innocent. Same way with turps and that other guy. For me tweets and reddit can not say guilty. Only the Court can. And until theres no final ruling (like the termination dispute with that one guy), I would still consider them innocent. Until a competent court proves otherwise.

He has been proven guilty by Lewis - who is a close friend of Sjin and wouldn’t just ask him to leave without hard evidence - in private. We don’t deserve to know the full extent of the evidence, which Lewis said he’d received more of via email. We’ve got to trust that the evidence was substantial and warranted Sjin to leave. It’s a terrible situation and we all feel bad but we just need to be able to trust the Yogs management now.
Both of you need to follow the legal definition of guilty. Lewis never confirmed any allegation, and he has no authority to do so. If the court rules guilty then by all means, grab the torches and pitchforks and lynch the fucking perverts. But for now while the case is pending before a court, lets all be civilized and educated.
The yogscast is a company - and people can be let go for doing things which aren’t necessarily illegal. If someone consistently shows up late for work, they wont go to court but they could be fired. Sjin broke code of conduct - not the law, so it is up to the yogscast to decide how they want to handle it, not a court. Lewis and the admin are the ones who have reviewed the evidence and allegations thoroughly - people contacted Lewis directly to protect their own privacy. The yogs went so far as to even hire an outside HR department to avoid bias. So no, Sjin wasnt guilty until innocent, they proved him guilty and made a decision based on that.

@@bwood6337 Even then, as far as I know (but this is fourth-hand knowledge), Sjin was emotionally attacked by some of the Yogscast (not the big leagues like LewLew, Simon, Ben, Duncan, Sips and basically the main TTT/GTA cast) and some hurtful things must have been said. If it's true, then I don't think he even wants to go back to the Yogscast. And I wouldn't blame him for it, I know what it's like to be ostracised from a group because of the false accusations of a small few people. But again, it's distant rumours that I'm basing this on. Yogcon was great. Lewis is still great. Simon is still great. Ben is kind, Tom is chill, Sips is magnificant, Duncan is funny, Leo is lewd, Zylus is a charmer, etc etc.
Everyone else are great and genuine people. If Sjin was your only source of entertainment, then I understand if you want to leave the yogscast veiwerbase, but please remember the good that still remains. Not all is lost or tainted.

To be honest I'm kind of glad I stopped watching years ago. They were my first big step into CZcams when Minecraft came out, but the humour got repetitive and boring(for me).
