They are lovely dogs. I had a retired greyhound called Albert and he was the best.
Accurate. They are the best :)
You don't need a large garden. Just a place where they can go running regularly. Would hate for these dogs to miss out on a home because of misinformation.
I've rescued 7of them since 1993, They really weren't in to running around, Long walks would do.
They really are great with kids. My childhood neighbors had a greyhound named Gal & she was a race dog. She’d passed her prime & was about to be put down until they got her & I remember knocking on their door every single day so I could say hi to her. She was the sweetest.
Woww
I've had three of my own hounds, two have passed, only my sweet Daytona left, shes 12 and in greyt shape so far. I've fostered more than 25 and each one was different but the thing is, when fostering, I found all of them to look at my three for guidance. They would all be in the down position near the kitchen door, as I prepared their meals. Then to call them, one by one, to eat. Truly amazing how quick they learn. I've had many breeds along the way but these Angels, are the ones for me. ❤
I have two ex racing greys and a big yard, yet these two rarely run around. The younger one is in fact so lazy he eats lying down and only after I place his bowl between his front paws. Btw their lifespan is between 12 to 14 years, though I've seen a couple living up to 17years.
Naa my Greyhounds will live forever !
Sounds like my kinda dog!!
I have a lurcher called Zorro, we got him from the Dogs trust at 4mths old , he will be 13yrs old in August! He is struggling now with joint type pain, and interestingly he has gum problems now that he never used to have. He's my son's best pal and the two of them are so affectionate towards each other, even though Zorro is my shadow! Lol.
Lots of misinformation in this video. Geryhound are great pets for apartments. even if you have a garden they will lay on the couch and might look at your garden. recommended exercise is 30 minutes a day (but I do take mine for 2 session a day, each 25 to 30 minutes). They live more than 12 years usually. they won't run unless they are being playful or have to. as the matter of fact sometime I have to encourage my Greyhound to run with a treat otherwise he would just walk.
Their fast but have no need for speed
I looking to adopt and would like a Greyhound but live in an apartment. I'm 62 and need a buddy!! I don't work so I'll be with the ,95% of the time. But rescue organizations . . . They make it soooooooo hard to adopt.
@@thebluedragon1532 Greyhounds are great for apartments if you can take them for a walk everyday for 30 minutes. My adoption experience was so easy. I don't know where you are but here in Australia it is very easy and straight forward.
@@AydinZahedi Aydin, I am in the state of Pennsylvania USA. And most of the rescue organizations make you jump through a ring of fire just to look at a dog. They require fenced in yards, a lot will say no kids under 10 or no apartment dwellers. Very hard to adopt. One organization refused my application because I took my dog to a Humane Society low cost vet clinic. I am about to give up.
@@thebluedragon1532 I can say that my greyhound has a garden to run around in but spends basically all day on the couch so I don't understand the need for a fenced garden
These dogs definitely don't live where this video is being shot. The lawn is in far too good a shape.
That's true. In our old yard our greyhounds that we owned over the years developed a pattern where they ran over the same exact spots. They did it so much that they turned up the dirt in the line they ran in and made their own race track.
We have two and our lawns look fine. They both love to lie and sleep in the sun. They do like to dig but its always in the same place.
we have alot of these in our desert.
My thoughts exactly 😄
I've had three. One named Memories, another called Token, and a third named Dublin. They were all lovely.
Great names!! Were those their racing names, or what you named them as pets (or both, like my Lily)?
We had a greyhound best thing we ever did rehoming ours.
Their average lifespan is closer to 12 years, with dogs reaching 14 being quite common. They don’t need a yard, but do require about 30 minutes of walking every day, ALWAYS on a strong non-retractable leash using a martingale collar. Their prey drive varies, with some greys happy to live with cats or small dogs, but this must be carefully tested before getting the dog to your home.
Our grey gets walked twice a day on a retractable lead attached to a harness. She has no problem with it at all.
@@michaeldenton2503 if she builds enough momentum by running the long distance allowed by the leash, she will be brought to a very sudden stop at the end of it making her slip and fall, and probably injuring herself, your arm, and your shoulder in the process. The harness is a good idea, but I wouldn’t use the retractable leash.
Those ears! 🐰
Ive never seen a dog more hench than that fawn one 😂 omg he looks like hes body building
He is actually a she and she now lives with me along with all her muscles haha I kept bullmastiffs for years and she's more hench than some of them haha
Lovely dogs
I remember my grandfather had a greyhound and he lived on a farm and I would get on the 4 wheeler and do 40 down the driveway and the damn dog would come running pass me like I wasn’t even moving & before I could even turn the 4 wheeler around he would be running back the other way halfway there already . My grandpa called him a crackhound .
I rescue and train sighthounds from scratch - they are fabulous dogs to train - always be gentle and plenty of soft voice yaaaaays and gentle clapping a little in front of them is my technique, never smack a dog you really don't need to, plenty of praise when they get it right is key. They will fall in love with you quickly if you are kind and gentle, and want to please you. They are serial couch potatoes and really need only two 20 minute walks per day and when they are getting on a bit knock the second one off unless they are really enjoying it - they will let you know. My last greyhound would look at me in disgust if there was the slightest bit of rain or wind and go back and snuggle into the sofa if I tried to walk her in winter. Luckily we have a good size garden and I let her out to do zoomies to get rid of any pent up energy if she was really reluctant. As long as they are a good weight (up to 70lb male - 5lb less for a female) and you can just see those last two ribs (when standing relaxed and between breaths) then you are not too far off piste, health wise. Smooth coats should always be glossy too. I've had a lot of different breeds of dog and
in my opinion there is nothing quite as special as the love of a sight hound.😃👍🐶🐈⬛🐈⬛
I take my 7 year old greyhound up 13,000' peaks in Colorado. They're sprinters, but they sure do pick up endurance if you ease them into it. They also do a lot better if you brush their teeth daily with chicken flavored tooth paste.
I've never heard so much misinformation about racing greyhounds. Forty mile per hour couch potato! Twelve to fourteen year lifespan. Many of them get cancer. Most like children. Some are even small animal safe. They can become very attached to an owner. But, you're only in trouble if an eighty-five pound boy decides he is a lap dog and plops down on you. Virginia in Ohio
I don't know if recall is an option for some sighthounds. We worked hard with our whippet but if he saw something and took off, there was NO calling him back.
They are sighthounds and shouldnt ever be off leash as once again they lock onto something fast moving and resembling a rabbit, recall just doesnt work.
@Sweet Rebel they are sighthounds and most will chase something small. There are probably some that will respond to voice control but for the most part they wont. Good luck to you if yours will respond to voice control but none of my 5 would and when i have adopted them through adoption agencies it was a condition that they werent allowed off lead outside private property and im more than happy to keep mine on a lead when out walking. One of mine is so timid if she was frightened and off lead i would never catch her. Btw you dont have to shout.
I got a pup from a rescue centre, she has been off leash since the day I got her. If she is chasing a deer and I call she comes back. They are very clever dogs just very stubborn
They are most likely to Great Dane and many people confused it,they are always lean in body shape but best run speed above all other dogs
That lawn wouldn't be like that if there were greyhounds running on it regularly 😄
Digging it up for no apparent reason 😂
My dog is mixed German Shepard and greyhound dog 1 year old and she seems to open up others well.
Dogs are so cute
There's a lot of misinformation in this video. I'd suggest watching other Greyhound videos for more accurate info.
Greyhounds can walk long distances. But you need to build up slowly to these distances. I had one who would walk all day in the Brecon beacons.
I love how lazy greyhounds are i had an Italian greyhound
I’m getting one soon
Yas! Eye am Whippet & eye aproof of dis video! - QuarterPoundHound 🏇🐎
The real danger with owning a greyhound, is standing behind them when they kick and scatter their mess!
My 2 rescue greyhounds passed at 15 yrs of age.
My grandpa has it, I'm Algerian North African, he use it for hunting wild pegs
Greyhounds live to around ten years. As my 15 year old grey looks up :D I swear she's a zombie at this point.
@Sweet Rebel Yes all my hounds have been pure, I've had two girls that lived to see 15 and our last girl we lost just a few months after her 16th bday. They were both really small girls which I think helped them live a bit longer. Both the male pups I have now are HUGE and I don't expect they will see their 12th or 13th bdays.
Does they have a good eyesight as compared to other breed of dogs??
Yes they have very good eyesight. They can see a rabbit up to 5 miles away and their peripheral vision is way better than humans. They are very magnificent dogs.
@@connorcooke5249 what ? With a telescope?? 😂 I think it’s up to half a mile away.
great
What kind of greyhound is this brown one? The face looks a little bit fuller and not so skinny like I’ve seen others. It also looks a little bit thicker muscular wise all around. Is it mixed with something? Looks very beautiful.
Not a mix, he’s a red fawn. Our greyhound boy is an 85 lb red fawn (ex racer) and looks very similar. Greyhounds in that particular color tend to have a wider head and look more muscular for whatever reason. They’re the best looking IMO but I’m obviously biased 🙂
Great Indian dog
I agree with every thing you said about Greyhound's, I love everything about them. I posted a short clip " More Than Just A Dog " You might like it , take a look.
kutty irukka bro
Would not recommend taking your greyhound off their lead in public in some cases you can even get in to legal trouble
Had our rehomed x racing greyhound now for six months by far one of the best things we have done. At five year old Floyd deserves to take it easy which he does no problem. If you are looking for a new dog I would recommend getting a greyhound ,you 'll be giving a dog a forever home.
@@johnkerr9226 Thats really good but where I live you can get in legal trouble for taking them off their lead
@Sweet Rebel I am simply being honest where I live you can get into legal trouble calm down
I use to own an greyhound had her since I was four years old but in August 2015 she had to be put down 😔😭
@Sweet Rebel I have actually but it’s a different breed a Weimaraner called Vespa from James Bond
Tilly, it's devastating, isn't it? I had to have my beloved Max put down over 20 years ago, the cancer in his leg became untreatable .. I miss him so much
Just put one of our grey girls down :( she was 16 years old.
In my life never adopted Grayhound
I know this video is a couple of years old but it’s actually a pretty bad video that happens to have good production value. It seems like they put a lot of work in to it but didn’t do any proper research on the breed. Of course I can understand the idea of trying to make a breed sound more difficult than they usually are so that only serious owners get them and then are pleasantly surprised. However, I feel like you should just be honest with people.
Plz import india one greyhound i pay all charges
i have a wiener dog right now but when he dies i will get an upgrade (greyhound)
This our Indian chippiparai da thevidiya pasanga la
You would think these dogs need a lot of excercise, they really dont. Normal amount. These are extremely lazy dogs in general.
👎👎👎👎👎
this breed is so boring i had to put mine down after 16 months because he would either randomly run around or just lay in his bed doing nothing its like having a cat
Deacon Frost wait I put him down , so killed him because he did what a dog does
Lays down and runs around
@@s-1-d30 no he refused to play actively with me thats what i am saying of course i know dogs lay around and run a lot in general
Deacon Frost SO YOU KILLED HIM
@@s-1-d30 not me personally but the vet

What an evil person , took and animal to be killed , just because you thought it was boring
