  • G'day guys, today we are reacting to The Doors Light My Fire live from the Hollywood Bowl 1976. Jim was such a great frontman who went from 0-100 in an instant. The band Ray, Robby and John really shined during this song.

    Psychedelic rock meets poetry with a touch of blues and jazz and you get the Doors. You can pick just about any song from their discography and just get drawn in by Morrison's lyrics and the band.

    I grew up with The Doors for over twenty years since I started listening to them before I started listening to them my late dad was a fan of the doors before me and that's how I became a fan just like him and I want to continue with the tradition

    The guitar player Robbie Krieger wrote Light My Fire 😎🎸
    For me there are so many great songs but Moonlight Drive might be my favorite & its the song that Jim first so shyly sang to Ray on the beach that got The Doors train rolling & turned that shy poet writing beach bum into The Lizard King 😎🎙
    Other favorites & requests.....
    When The Music's Over
    Roadhouse Blues
    Touch Me
    Love Her Madly
    Five to one
    L.A Woman
    Love Me Two Times
    & you can't forget possibly their best song......Riders On The Storm
    (😆🎹 love Ray's work on that song)

    I love, love, love this song. This live version just doesn't do it for me though. It lacked the fire of the LP version, the haunting organ runs throughout and that stabbing guitar riff. Ninety nine times out of a hundred I would prefer any live version. But in this case I think the studio version is a crowning achievement. I did really like the live version from the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival though. To each his own though. Would love to hear more Doors. Hope you are staying well. Thanks for the reaction!

      Flame is fleeting and there is a price to be paid. Jim paid "the man" his due only 3 years later. As he sang in "The Soft Parade" the man is at the door. He knew his time was short so he lived it to its fullest enjoying the ride as much as he could.

    There is a story here that I don't remember the details of. Something like they went on a talk show or variety show and played this. They didn't want them on, but they were just too popular. They were asked to change the lyric "get much higher" but, Jim being Jim, didn't, and that's where my knowledge ends. I wonder if anyone can finish the story for me or tell me if that's all there is to say?

    • @matthewdrake4385
      @matthewdrake4385 Před 4 lety +3

      That was on The Ed Sullivan show, I want to say in 67, because it wasn't long after the debut from what I recall. He told the stage manager or some one they would change the lyric, due to the drug reference. But Jim sung it the regular way and safe to say the Doors never played Ed Sullivan again.

      @@matthewdrake4385 Thanks, man. I knew it was something like that. I vaguely remember watching the documentary on American Masters or American Experience on PBS, but I couldn't remember.

    • @matthewdrake4385
      @matthewdrake4385 Před 4 lety +1

      There was another incident on Ed Sullivan. He had the Rolling Stones on, again in the mid or late 60s, and once again there was an issue with one of the lyrics. The song was Lets Spend the Night Together, but the guys with Sullivan wanted it changed to Lets Spend Some Time Together. Mick sang it Ed's way, but when he sung the new title, he rolled his eyes at the camera.

      @@matthewdrake4385 Yeah. It was very conservative back then on one side, and on the other people were starting to branch out from that and rebel. I mean, I get both sides. On one hand, there were little kids and families gathered to watch and, on the other, people were trying to get out from under that veil and show the 'real' side of things. A definitive turning point in history and values. One group trying to keep it the way it was, and the other trying to show the way it was. Kind of appearance and reputation vs I'm me and who are you to try to tell me any different. *shrugs* I may have worded that poorly, but you get the point.

    I was a Doors addict--from the first song on the radio through their final album (all of which I bought the moment they were available.) There are many, many Doors' songs to like...and this one is on my short list, HOWEVER, this is the worst performance of this song I can remember. I know it's hard to find decent videos of 60s' performers, but this one sucks.

      The Doors perform for the first time at the Bowl. This evening is taped and filmed for album and video release. They return only once, in 1972, with Frank Zappa and Tim Buckley.
