As a GD player, here are all the mistakes
6:21 - It was 1.1 that added mirror portals
7:05 - Customization was in 1.0
10:56 - Demon levels were added in 1.3, 1.6 just added the first official one
13:12 - 2.1 added object rotation, 2.0 added object movement
13:55 It was a remake, not a buff
14:54 It was not made in the editor, rather by having code modify the games savefile to place objects more precisely
bloodlust is a remake but the bloodbath part is buffed significantly, also spu7nix made what in the editor technically because that's where it is but he most likely did go into the editor for a lot of the creation process

@@tyronium2 The editor for "what" was basically just the tool that converted the code he wrote to make the level into GD thus eliminating a need to code something to do that for him.
The editor was also used yes but most of the level was made by coding, not by using the editor, which is also why the level in the editor is extremely confusing.

honestly i appreciate how, despite this guy not being in the gd community understands how hard the game actually is. like normally when you show someone gd they think its just a super simple and easy cube game where you just jump over a spike and they think that its difficulty is nothing compared to the generic first person shooters released today

Worth noting that I recently asked RobTop what he thinks made this game successful in an AMA and he claims it's the editor (ESPECIALLY how easy it is to share/browse levels, even without an account at first) and custom music (so levels don't just use the same songs over and over). Also worth noting that unlike the Impossible Game there's actually an incentive to play online levels - most of the game's rewards are tied to them

Some of the information is wrong tbh, demon difficulty was added in 1.3, not 1.6. Also at 11:40, it wasn't only because of demon levels, its one of the reasons why the game stayed alive but it was also because of the community that the game stayed alive.

Great video overall, but as a person who has been playing GD consistently for 5 or 6 years at this point. I'd like to point out some mistakes you made in this video.
1. Mirror portals were added in 1.1.
2. Custom levels have been a thing ever since 1.0.
3. Demons were added in 1.3, 1.6 just introduced the first official demon level.
4. Rotate triggers were added in 2.1, move triggers were added in 2.0.
5. Bloodlust was a remake, not just a buff.
6. WHAT wasn't entirely made in the editor, a lot of it was made with the help of a programming language that the creator of the level Spu7nix wrote and a script that managed to turn video into GD objects by simulating evolution.
I'd also like to point out the usage of gameplay by GuitarHeroStyles/AdvyStyles since he's done terrible stuff and doesn't deserve any recognition due to his actions so using footage recorded by him doesn't really feel right.

My guy this video has mistakes, for example the mirror portal wasn't added in 1.2, it was in 1.1 and the Demon difficulty wasn't added in 1.6, that was when RobTop released the first demon and some more but still this is a great video my guy :)

Isn't 2.2 already out? Technically geometry dash isn't completely dead in order for it to completely die out it has to have no updates being added and the developer will have to retire or if it runs out of sales
GD was never even close to being completely dead, despite the fact that it took over 7 years for 2.2 to finally release.
Very good video, just please learn how to put things in chronological order. It kept going back and forth and it was hard to follow, it goes to 2020 then straight back to 2014 in 3 seconds.
The editor make the game success, that's it. Yeah, maybe robtop copied the gameplay, but he added more gameplay too so the gameplay will be variative

I've been in the GD Community for over half its lifespan and wanted to say this video is super well made. I always find it interesting that this game stood the test of time as well as it has and how creators and players always find new ways to make the game so enjoyable and worthy of coming back to, which is something that I really like about this $4 cube game.

It's also worth emphasising the evolution of the creating side of the community during those 6 years. With that much time, dedicated creators only got more and more skilled at the editor - finding new ways to further push the limits in both gameplay and visuals. And you can see this change if you compare levels from each year of 2.1.
Not only this, but the GD space on youtube was booming with content, particularly showcase channels, which previewed the most recent masterpieces to come out of the editor. These videos are VERY popular and can reach far beyond just the GD community, only drawing more players in. Plus the fact, they inspire new creators to try projects of their own, thus continuing the positive feedback loop.
At around this time as well, Robtop was becoming more active in the community - rating more levels, assigning more moderators and generally interacting with the community more. Morale rose greatly and with the influx of new moderators and level rates, getting a rated level was no longer as elusive as it used to be. Newer creators could shine without having to wait years for recognition.
To top it off, Rob also regularly previewed upcoming features of 2.2, provided updates on its progress and answered a lot of the community's most asked questions.
I believe this is the main reason Geometry Dash has kept its momentum for all this time.
Once the game added background graphics. Thatâs when I quit. It became waaaay too annoying trying to figure out what was the box to jump on & what was the background.

In comparison new 2.2 levels are the most confusing levels yet but they are also by far the best levels any update has brought yet. Just a skill issue.

The level editor is definitely what made the game blow up. By allowing the players to make gd what they wanted it to be robtop unknowingly allowed the game to evolve in amazing ways where players could really surprise others what the game could be. That's how we got the game to be as popular as today.

Robtop was updating the game with entirely new code he streamed it in a secret CZcams channel which is why he took 6 years and also keep in mind that he rates every level he sees which took it even longer he literally RUNS the game.
Also people were asking Rob to over add items to the game which made it last 6 years

Im surprised how dedicated the community is to this game. Distraught took me 22k attempts and i cant be asked to beat anything harder. Taking longer than 15k attempts on a level is just insufferable to me.
I think geometry dash grew not because of demons but because of the amount of freedom it gives creators to do whatever they want as well as all the youtubers making really good videos like this one
What A Great Documentation On Such Game!
the fact that geometry dash kept growing over the years is insane. in 2018 the game was in its decline, its lowest was about 2k players. but fast forward to 2019 and the game somehow peaked at about 4k players, and then 2020 with 6k players, 2021 with 10k players peak, 2022 with 16k players peak, and then finally 2.2... which peaked at 80k players... of course player count went down, but it still averages about 20k players.
