So I decided to go with the 23zero sabor rooftop tent on top of my home made camper trailer.
Overall the products pretty good and I’m happy to keep using it and would still recommend the product.
But it has its flaws like im site 90% of roof top tents on the market do.
This is just my opinion and first thoughts on the tent as I haven’t had it that long to know fully how it’s going to hold up.

My Darche Ridgeback RTT came with a pair of shoe bags to be mounted on sail tracks, but the RTT itself has no sail track. So I just bought a black 1m strip sail track from Bunnings and cut 4 pieces to size and bolted it on the RTT via it's T-slot channels. I've also fitted a mattress topper (from Kmart) and that has added an extra layer of comfort. It's soooooo comfy now. 😁

I have a Dune Nomad 140 and love camping up on the roof.
Every rtt has issues including mine, so it's just a case of getting used to there little things that could be better.
Yeah, the weight of yours would be a problem on my Hilux. My rtt weighs about half that of yours so it works well for me.
My poor old swag is now collecting dust in the shed and it would be hard to go back to after having a rtt.
I've been following your trailer build and I'm looking forward to seeing it finished and being used.
Well done Steve. Been happy with mine overall but like you say, not yet perfect. I still reckon it's one of the best options around though for the price.
Good choice on the rtt. One thing I'd suggest if you can fit it in when you close the RTT is "Sunfresh Moisture Absorber" from bunnings.
i got the kabari here in the usa it was a scratch and dent was missing some parts only paid 1000 dollars for it put it on my 4x4 ford van so far so good. your point are good noticed the same things my self thanks for the video
I've been running this same tent for quite a while now, I travelled Aus in it for 6 months and Never had a issue, I have the upgraded inner spring mattress and love it and I can still pack it up with a mattress protector, fitted sheet and a small dooner with no issues, I also enter through the side due to a 270deg awning and haven't had a issue. I also put a hardkorr little lantern in the clear pocket and leave it there works perfect for lighting the tent at night
I think the overall quality of the tent is fine.
And those small issues I pointed out are exactly that. Small issues and probably a non issue for 90% of users. Including myself so far. But I was just looking for possible points of failure down the track. As I haven’t had it long enough myself to know yet.
I’ve ended up just putting a pop up lantern in as well. Just needs charging every few nights
Depending on the quality of the gas struts, it should be able to carry your solar panels w/ease. I've had a 160W solar panel & a pair of Maxtrax on top of my Darche Ridgeback RTT's roof rails since I got it last year (Apr 2022), and it still opens easily on its own. But I did buy an extendable pole to put inside the RTT as support for the lid - just in case. But I've yet to use it since the gas struts on my RTT are so strong. They're so strong that my (5 foot nothing) petite GF has a hard time pulling the lid down to close. And just like you, I was initially a little concern about the external gas struts fitted on the outside (my RTT is on top of my LC80). But since I have a 270 awning on the left side & a shovel & shower awning on the right side, I doubt they'd get tangled in anything major. But tell you what, I'm glad they're on the outside, as it gives you additional width inside w/nothing getting in the way. I enter via the driver's side and have no problems. Tho just like all RTTs, it's a little inconvenient having to climb down when having to get up to do a No.1 at 2am. 😁

Exactly. I never actually went back to 23zero about it as it’s a fairly small issue but something I thought ppl should look out for when opening theirs for the first time

Put some camping jigsaw type of mats(the ones with the holes) in the bottom of the tent all over and it will help eliminate condensation. And has a special towel just to wipe out condensation on the mornings.
Hard to go back to a swag after getting a RTT, looking forward to next trailer vid.
It is very comfortable and super quick and easy to setup that’s for sure.
Honestly think this video would have been better made after having used it for a while. Most of the complaints were just assumptions and is bagging a company for no reason. 100% find the side entrance easier to get in. Love all the other videos and been following for a while but this one was hard to watch
It’s not really a review. Title even says “ first look”. I completely agree I need more time with it to have a proper opinion about it.
It was mainly to keep some continuity with the trailer build videos because I was upto fitting the tent part.
I’m about 6-12 months I’ll do a proper review of the tent once I have used it a fair bit.
So think of this video more as a “ first impressions video “.
Hopefully that gives some context for you.
I have a 23 Zero RTT and had failures and other problems. The response from the company was we can help you buy a new one. It took mine on 4 trips.
The thing I dislike most about RTTs is climbing up the ladder, particularly in the middle of the night and after a few sherbets. I've seen a great solution for when the RTT is on a trailer - see Hardkorr Xplorer - have the tent open to the front and steps (which double as storage) on the draw bar. Steps is so much better than a ladder. It inspired me to copy the idea on my ute canopy to access my James Boroud RTT (best RTT money can buy in my opinion). I have a platform and fold up Torklift scissor steps. Haven't used my ladder since.
Yeah ladders arnt the best thing are a few cold waters hahaha.
The steps idea is a good one. I think I seen drifta had a similar concept for their tents on the dot trailers years ago
Totally agree. I dislike rrt for the very same reasons, and the only one i would even consider the Hardkorr style. Strangely enough, you do t see to many around.
Lov my soft top rtt, even though it’s 15 min up & away, only 30 kg

The thumbnail makes it sound worse then what it actually is haha. You know all about about making thumbnails interesting haha.
Overall I still like the tent. Just think there’s some really simple things that could be improved and it would be an amazing tent.
I put the door flap up over the awning into the loop pull down strap instead of rolling it up, also unzip side entry and lay flat when packing to stop the air trap
I didn’t think about using the pull down strap as a holder. I’ll try that next time

Fair review for preventative maintenance but nothing out of the ordinary for RTT's
I have a 23Zero RTT have taken it on only 4 trips because I have another Overlanding vehicle that is our primary vehicle. I have 22Zero
well I hope the pather 2000 is made better but for clam shell you can't go past TheBushCompany's AX27. It costs more but leagues better construction fully wielded plus a proper 2 layer canvas. Its all about what budget you have.

You 20seconds and roll the side up and tuck it between the side and mattress.. have mo issues with ladder on side entry. I've the for wildlands drifta rtt and have never had a issue with the door and fly so to speak being caught up
Yeah it’s a minor issue for sure. I was being fairly picky about that. But it’s such a simple fix of habing the door hinges on the side

I can’t say I’ve even heard of the panther 2000 before. Ganna have to look it up now
@@Australian4x4Adventures it's seems the most affordable reliable option atm for me as not a fan of the abs shell ones. Camprite Aus have an abs option the same size and allows an Annex so I'm struggling to decide between aluminium hardshell or annex compatibility.
I'm making a trailer like you but also want the option to remove the tent and run it on the roof if need be, when going without the kids.
Deadly Sil3nt we had panther 2000, we had lot of space for 2 adults and 2 kids..very spacious..

@@DeadlySil3nt1 only issue I had with is the over centre safety lock was snapped but I called them and they goin to send the spare parts. And expect condensation if you close all the window. To avoid it you have to open a lil bit so air can go out.
My wife wants to know if you can do a lift to get our overweight kelpie to get into the rooftop tent
I know a few ppl that pickup large dogs into their rooftops.
When you showed you new rooftop tent today it would have been great to see the item you were talking about instead of your face all the time.

Have you still got the tent. You look like a tall fella and I know from visiting 23Zero and being a little over 6', I just don't fit to where it's comfortable. Spewing!! The internal dimensions on the saber is 2200
I love sleeping in it. I’m a side sleeper so my knees are normally bent a little so the overall length for me has never been an issue. I’m 6,3

Don’t like the triangle clam style. I didn’t like the feeling of hitting your feet because I couldn’t sleep with head down that end.
The statement about side entry is useless and these tents are designed for rear entry is BS.
Not only if people have a 270 awning what about people with a wagon with rear door and the spare wheel is on the door.
Can't access the rear entry with the spare wheel so the side entry is the way.
And the competition with motop they are totally different in alot of ways.

I stand by my statement.
These ones are mainly designed to be entered from the rear as that’s the only shelter point on the tent when it’s raining.
Other brands have shelter on the side which makes it’s more multi purpose.
My my case of the tent being 150mm in from each side of the camper means I can’t hook the ladder on so I just can’t do it unless I push it way off to one side which would make it look ridiculous in my opinion.
I think the only thing I said about motop is that they are a lot thinner. That’s it. I wasn’t comparing anything else about them.
A lot of 270 awnings now are even building on zippers at the rear to utilize that rear entry too
Some advice: Carry spare gas struts always!
They fail at the most inconienient time, and are very easy to carry.
I have noticed that they are already very weak compared to new. But I have also added a fairly big solar panel. I make sure I use the safety pole all the time
