I took the laundry sheets idea on a river cruise. Your best idea was a jumbo ziploc which allowed us to wash out 4-6 pieces in the bag in the tiny sink. I have hook clips to easily hang up underwear, and 2 flat plastic hangers. All clothes had passed my 6 hour drip test at home - from soaking wet to dry in 6 hours!

I bought that backpack on your recommendation in a previous video for my 10-day Canadian cruise. It was AMAZING! I didn't have packing cubes so I improvised with gallon freezer bags and I got a hoodie, my weather resistant jacket, denim capris, t-shirt, underwear/socks, mask, pajamas, my phone charger/cord, travel documents, most immediate needed personal care items (cruise ship has shampoo and body wash in the cabin so I didn't even bother taking that stuff, I'm not picky), AND my knitting project I had just started. Still had room for small souvenir swag! Highly recommend this bag. Whomever invented the strap to slip over your suitcase handle was a genius!

I think you recommended the Travelon secure travel purse and I thank you for that. I ordered 3 from Amazon before our trip to see which I liked best. A pocket to the inside of my body held our passports, credit cards, and other items we wanted secure. Inside, I used little pouches to keep our money separated. The front pocket held our tour tickets, etc. Each pocket had the double lock option and the straps was slash proof. It was mostly comfortable, but I think I might like some kind of pad next time.

A couple of things I will add: small trash bags folded into "samosas", a shopping bag to act as a liner for the seat pocket, and a home-made pillowcase so I can roll up my big sweater & use it as a sleeping noodle around my neck.
Oh, and I'm trying to figure out how to bring a hard ball for foot massage/exercise during the flight. I don't want it rolling all over the place like last time! Maybe a cloth bag with a piece of elastic & a clothespin so I can easily "fish up" the bag from the floor.

The first trip I was able to wash all my undies and bras in the hotel sink. For the trip to Indiana, I was able to wash a whole load of laundry using 7 sheets. About the medicines, since I take many of them, taking all the bottles is too bulky; what I take is what I need of each + a couple more doses in case of delays, put them in pill baggies, and take the printout that the pharmacy gives with the prescription, it contains a physical description of the pill, my info, my pharmacy and my dr’s info, and it takes no space!

My last couple trips I decided to pack my meds in snack size ziplocs instead of bringing all of the bottles, and it not only meant that I didn't need an extra bag for medical stuff (good thing, because it wouldn't have fit on my wheelchair - I only have room for a carryon suitcase on the front and a backpack on the back), but it also meant I had/will have that space free on the way home. Because I've gotten stuck overnight in layover cities on the way home in the past, I always pack enough for the number of days I'll be gone plus one more day, just in case (I pack the first 7 days in my pill box, since the box takes up the same amount of space regardless of whether it's empty or full). I found that writing the date on each bag made it easier for me to keep track, especially if there were one or more meds I didn't have quite enough of for the entire trip and needed to get more of. When I take the last batch of meds each day, I just take the next bag and use it to refill that day's box for the following week (so the boxes stay full).
Even though I'm travelling domestically (I'm actually on a trip right now), because this time I'll be bringing back a bulk shipment (sort of - it's technically 30 days' worth, but it's still a lot b/c it's 32 capsules a day, and they're not small) of one med that wouldn't have arrived to my house before I left (had it shipped to where I'm staying), I took the prescription label off the container they came in (the container is huge - almost the size of a number 10 can) and stuck it to a ziploc (I also put the capsules in ziplocs) that I'll tuck in with my meds for the flight home next week, just in case they get at all suspicious about all the capsules in my bag (I'll be putting as many as will fit into my pillbox, since that will be taking up the same amount of space no matter what's in it, and that will mean the capsules will take up a lot less space than they are right now).

Oof! Flying with Lenovo ThinkPads, yep, I can relate - so heavy! Mine was so big, I hated having to tote it around, but we were required to bring them to school every day in 11th and 12th grade for one of our classes (they were issued to us by the school, and we weren't allowed to bring a different one), and I didn't get a smaller one until sophomore year of college.

JUST RETURNED FROM CANADA … Laurie, I followed your suggestion and bought an I-walk compact battery that plugs right into my iPhone. It was perfect for Canada because you were constantly taking pictures and videos so I needed a battery every day. The arriveCAN app worked very well to put your US documents and immunization documents in prior to boarding. I purchased a Baggallini bag years ago, but it has two faults, one it doesn’t have side pockets for-water and and two it didn’t have a trolley bag. Other than that it is a perfect personal item bag. I purchased a purse strap on Amazon and connected to the straps on my bag and it was a perfect trolley strap, helping to keep my bag more secure on my wheeled carry-on. I already posted on another video that on my way home. I got my collapsible hiking poles confiscated because they are not allowed in Canada but they are in the United States. Remember to check TSA rules for all countries you visit.

Go to the canada site and fill out arrive can forms. Have that on your phone as you have to show it prior to getting on the flight into Canada. On the arrive can site you have to prove and show your vaccine card. I am presently in Canada now, just flew in 3 days ago.

I see that you have an older child. Can you do a video regarding packing with a child? Ie. Does he have a personal item? When did he start carrying his own personal item? I have a 6 & 7 yo and I’ve travelled with them on planes, boats & cars (no trains yet) and I usually have a backpack & checked in luggage (no rolling carry on so I have both hands free for their hands). But I would like to lighten my load and have them carry their own stuff (snacks, toys water bottle). I love your channel. It has helped me fine tune my own traveling hacks.

I used to travel with four kids who were aged within a 5,5 year age-span. They started carrying there own personal item bag from about the age your kids are. After all, they go to school with backpacks (at least mine did) They were packed with the things they might need/want during travelling. This was pre-screen era, so often colouring things, toys etc. We did learn to check their bags though😅 On two occasions we were pulled aside because of (school-)scissors in a bag! Luckily they were too small to be confiscated.

Love your videos! I don’t travel as much as I’d like but have fun dreaming . . .
I do have a question and a comment:
Q: I must have a weighted blanket for my adult son. We use a 10# lap-size for travel. How would I carry that?
C: son takes 19 meds a day, all pills. First of all, I ask pharmacy for child-proof bottles. They stay closed. I carry a day’s supply, separately, in my back pack, but also put his 7-day (sorted) pill boxes in a vacuum sealed bag. Then I put all of his Rx bottles in another separate vacuumed bag with labels all facing same way. I carry all of it in my backpack. Nothing gets lost or spills open. This has made my life easier so many times.

Since I have been watching you, I always wipe down my seat, etc. with a Clorox wipe, and *every* time it is disgusting and brown by the time I have everything wiped down. I do the same thing with the seats at the gate. I look like the crazy germ lady, but I don’t care. Seeing how filthy otherwise clean looking seats really are was so eye opening.
