About 7-8 months ago I found your channel as I was researching E-Drums to see how the tech has come along & if they are close to acoustic kits yet. I researched for months & ultimately decided upon the Roland TD27KV2. It wasn't the most realistic sounding kit, but the digital Hi-Hat, Ride & Snare sold me on it. As Hi-Hats have always been difficult to simulate & the TD27KV2 seemed to have the best. But when I got the kit & set it up, I just couldn't get over how bad it sounded. It just didn't sound like an acoustic kit. Yes, I tweaked it quite a bit but still didn't like the sound. And I didn't want to have to pump it through a PC/Laptop & VST's for it to sound good. Not when spending $3500 for an E-Kit.
Anyhow, I am now SO glad I returned that TD27KV2. This was exactly what I was looking for. Had I only waited a few more months I would have saved myself the hassle of setting up that TD27KV2 only to have to tear the whole thing down, repackage it all & send it back. By the way, I cannot recommend Sweetwater enough. The best customer service I've ever had.
Oh, and one thing I learned is that the pads & cymbals being capable of dynamics like Ghost Notes to Rim Shots is FAR more important than having "Digital," "Positional Sensing" pads. So long as the drums can detect & differentiate between light Ghost Notes to hard Rim Shots, that is what matters most. So authentic acoustic sounds absolutely trumps those "Digital," "Positional Sensing" pads & cymbals of the TD27KV2. All the accuracy in the world doesn't help if the samples sound like dirt.
This kit sounds incredible. This kit is revolutionary for E-Drums. Finally an E-Kit that gives us authentic VST quality samples as well as drum & cymbal choices from actual real drum & cymbal manufacturers. I hated the generic, lifeless sounds from the Roland TD27KV2. As well as an amazing, intuitive drum module with a 10.1 inch touch screen & a great looking, easy to use UI with every feature, setting & tweak imaginable. This is what I wanted all along, but it just wasn't here quite yet.
Now, the sooner they add Blutooth audio so I can jam to music from my phone, the sooner I will be picking this up.

Roland has the obsession with not using samples and I got the same issue with a super expensive piano I bought from them recently. The piano is beautiful, key response is superb but the sound is just so fake and electronic. It has been a while so I can't return it either. Stuck with it sadly.

The assignable outs should be achieved by hard panning, So, kick into Main (hard panned left) snare into main (hard panned right) hihat to 3&4 (hard panned left) ride to 3&4 (hard panned right) toms to 6&5 (hard panned left) and crashes to 5&6 (hard panned right) You;d need to monitor it from the FOH desk though as all the panning would be horrible to listen to in headphones from the module. And some ambience to wet it up a little as it would be forced mono.
But it should give what Anthony was asking for.

I have had no luck assigning instruments to the outputs without the following issues. 1. The signals from 3/4 & 5/6 bleed into the main L/R outputs. 2. Reverb, Effects, and Ambience don’t seem to be available for both the Drum Mix and the 4 assignable outputs. The manual does not explain any of this. There is nothing yet on CZcams. I bought this kit to play live and it looks like there is no way to achieve isolating the kick, snare, Tom’s and cymbals.

I almost had a mimic with the atv kit, the seller changed his mind. So I went with this. In my experience thus feels real close to a real set. Then it sounds way better if your acoustic set isn't miced up. Dynamics are fantastic. I was bummed when the guy changed his mind about the mimic but now I'm thinking it happened for a reason.

The assignable output pairs are probably stereo busses. So you could, in fact, sending something to just one of them by panning all the way left or right. (i.e. assign kick drum to 1/2 and pan it fully left (to 1)). I haven't bought mine yet, but I'll test it out when I do.

THis video was/is awesome. I really don't care (and never have over the past almost couple decades or so?) for BFDs flat and distant sound at all. I prefer Toontrack's realism and depth etc. WISH you could put that in this module replacing the BFD. BUt at that point, you'd just buy a more compatible with more preset Pearl MIMI PRO. For my money, the Pearl Mimic Pro is still my jam. I still don't like SL much more than BFD but at least the module and software is much more powerful and compatible. Thanks Justin as always for the amazing research and vids! Also I've had both strike sets, and the module, and both sets of hats, as well as the DM10 hats too. From what I've seen and heard, These hats included with a Strata Prime seem to be the best of all.

Thank you for answering my question! I'm sad to learn that I won't be able to properly output 6 channels to FOH. That really is a deal breaker for me. Looks like most of the limitations are purely software ones and hopefully may be fixed in the future updates. Still a solid choice, I'd say. But anyway, the best Alesis can do with it is to release the module's operating system as open source, provide the hardware specifications, datasheets, SDK and so on. Then the community will pick up the development and it will become the most loved e-drumming platform ever.

I don't know if you'll have time to answer this but if you do I'd really appreciate it. A BIG question I have is if this is used as along with Superior Drummer and Easy Drummer for the awesome midi sounds you get... Do you get any double hits (example 2 sounds "triggers" for 1 hit) with the Hi hats? That's a big problem I have with the Strik Pro is no matter what I do and no matter who tries to help me from Alesis over the phone, I almost always have extra trigger hits almost 1 out of 3 times on the Hi-Hat.

Could anyone confirm if you are able to plug in different brand’s hi hats into this alesis ekit? I asked alesis’s customer service and they gave a complicated answer. I would rather have an ekit hi hat with two rubber cymbals that open and close and don’t move around as much as I play. “Regarding compatibility with other brands, this can be a bit complicated. The cymbals and drums have multiple zones requiring more complicated signals than just on/off messages that some triggers provide to modules. I cannot guaranty any compatibility outside the Alesis brand, but you can always experiment.”

@@65Drums Thanks, Justin. I think you’re 100% right. After digging into it some more I’m going to go the route you suggested. I’ve decided to start with just converting a snare drum to try to use with my nitro mesh kit for a while. If that baby step goes well, then I’ll do a larger conversion kit down the road and simply buy a module and symbol pads to go with it. From watching all of your videos and doing my own research, I think that the introduction of the touchscreen Prime module and the DWe kit suggests to me that there might be a big leap coming in the next generation of flagships that could be worth waiting for rather than buying a TD-50x now. Thanks again.

Compared to other companies, this is quite reasonable. This is Alesis putting out a pro-level kit. Compare that to Roland, you'd be shelling out 6-7,000 for compatible sizes, numbers and module. I think the Strike Multipad was really the first shot fired in Alesis being looked at as a real competitor in the professional, semi professional market. Allowing gigging drummers the ability to have power without paying through the nose for it.
I was looking at a Roland Multi when the Strike was released, I changed my mind have nothing but awesome put of it. And until Roland updated to the latest version, I had more options. Now I just have a less expensive version.

Question: I built a Mike Portnoy style drum kit: czcams.com/users/postUgkxfU0cs0SVQcwVqrXEliYEK1sxiDijs8pb
For the extra pads and cymbals, I used MIDI cable to connect a TD-20 module to a TD-30 module. All sounds were generated by the TD-30.

  • @UtwoBed
    @UtwoBed Před 2 měsíci

Not really so advanced. 😒They did not provide for simultaneous multitrack recording of the individual drum channels. This is a big let down. The only way to mutitrack is through the use of MIDI and then assign samples, but you can do that with any module so this is not at all unique. I'll stick with my Roland set.
