a lot of the knowledge comes from having to watch performances at music shows. the boys are in the waiting room during most performances and just have a habit of picking up choreo. especially when most groups promote for two weeks so you practically hear that same song everyday. hope that made a bit of sense

The girl who said “I don’t like it” during After School Club is Jamie. She has a savage persona, but is really kind hearted. If you watch all their appearances on that show, you’ll find that they were super comfortable. There weren’t many variety shows who treated them well because they were from a small company, but ASC was an exception.

Tbh whenever I see a clip of Jamie I'm always left with a sour taste in mouth, she acts just like bullies I personally know, and she isn't very nice to some of the guests. They are just dancing to the songs that were really popular/trendy at the time and most people even the ones who didnt stan the groups knew the dance. Same as other groups are currently dancing and singing along to BTS songs on those tv shows. They either learn the whole song or just the chorous so that they can perform it on the tv shows. And other groups also said that when they promote their song with other groups they see those groups reherse and perform basically everyday while they are waiting for their turn which is how they learn the dances. If someone made a compilation of other (boy and girl) groups covering BTS, that video would be probably hours long at this point

A brief note: Kpop as we know it today is actually a continuation of a 30-ish year-long industry. The OG group is Seo Taiji & Boys, who debuted in 1992. [BTS is considered by many, including Seo Taiji himself, to be the heirs to their legacy.]
Kpop is often talked about in waves - 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. First Wave started with Seo Taiji & included artists like H.O.T. and BoA. The, "Big Three," companies were formed then - SM, YG and JYP.
Second Wave was basically when Kpop exploded in popularity both in South Korea and to nearby Asian countries like Japan, Thailand and China, which had previously been somewhat indifferent to Korean groups (Japan, in particular, has its own industry, JPOP, which tends to be more eclectic and rock-based, as opposed to the R&B/hip-hop roots of Kpop). Second Wave's biggest groups were Big Bang, Girls Generation, Super Junior, 2NE1 and Shinee.
Third Wave includes groups like BTS, EXO, Blackpink, GOT7, Mamamoo and TWICE - i.e. many of the groups that you've been hearing about recently. If you've heard mention of fan wars, it's often referencing a rivalry between fans of EXO & BTS. To put it in perspective, until roughly 2016-2018, EXO was second only to Big Bang in popularity - Big Bang were pretty much the nation's idol group & EXO were seen as their likely successors, until the Wings era of BTS launched them into the stratosphere.
The latest Wave includes groups like TXT, Stray Kids, LOONA, Itzy, IzOne.
Kpop spans literally hundreds of groups and solo acts from 1992 until now - I could list so many more from each wave & still offend someone by leaving out their favourite, so I've just mentioned a few of the most well-known acts outside of S. Korea.

Kpop is a whole genre with different generations. Kpop has been going on since the end of the 90's. Girl's generation for example is one of the (if not the) longest existing girl group(s) and has been active since 2007. They are called 2nd generation. We are in the 4th right now. BTS is 3rd gen. Although when the 3rd ended and 4th started is not really clear, but the 4th gen is seen as the generation with almost an over population op groups. It's really hard to know how many groups there are atm..

Boy and Girl groups dancing to each other's songs / doing each others choreo is common in Kpop. As trainees these groups learn trendy groups dances, and 'hits' of past groups. They do this after debut too because when these groups go on these variety shows for publicity and to please fans this is something most hosts do with groups. The 'girl group dance'/ 'Boy group dance' and the 2x dance (where groups dance to their songs at 2x the speed) are the most common 'games' on shows in Korea. And GFriend (Under BigHit's sub label- Source Music, and good friends with BTS) are considered the Queens of the 2x dance challenge. They never fail, and honestly it's damn impressive.
BTS also tend to know a lot of Red Velvet, GFriend, and Twice songs because these three groups BTS seems to be the closest friends with.
Fun fact- Red Velvet actually reacted to J-Hope dancing to their song 'Ice cream cake' and oh my, was it hilarious. The girls were cracking up. I can't blame them, Hobi is extra and we love it. 💜💜💜

Here's the thing, there are actually a bunch of girl groups out there not just 5 or 6, and every year some choreographys would become very popular like every single person in the Korean entertainment industry would know the dance. Also, there's this culture in kpop where you expect main/lead dancers to know each dance ever created lmao, it's pretty common to see a boy group go to a talk show/variety show to promote which will lead them to be asked to show off some dance skills like freestyle or girl group dances.
This is actually an old video, I believe since 2018 bts don't go to any kind of show anymore so we are actually lacking girl group dance cover content :(((

19:52 the shirt cut is a special performance thing so that they can wear a leather jacket for example and not die of heat while dancing. these days it's usually breezy or even half see-through sleeveless tanks for BTS. if you ever watch concert DVDs or bangtan bombs or something like that you'll see plenty of shots of boys backstage or coming down under the stage for a costume change and they usually have something super light under their jackets. even when they are in collared shirts and formal jackets during their performance it's rarely ever full shirts, they are often sleeveless too :)

In k-pop and in Korean culture in general there is established hierarchy based on when you debuted/started work etc. You ought to show respect to your seniors. That's why rookie groups are expected to know the popular songs by senior groups or groups that they are admiring. And maknaes of groups are often expected to dance to girl groups bc they are cute and innocent. Also learning other groups' choreographies is actually good practice.
There are hundreds of groups debuting every year, about 20-30 of each year survive longer than 3 years. The market is very competitive. You need to stend out to make it. You can look at Dreamcatcher - girl group that debuted in 2017, they actually debuted 3 years before that but they were unsuccessful so their company re0debuted them as Dreamcatcher with the most original sound in k-pop, the most energetic choreographies.
Also Girls' Generation aka SNSD had originally 9 members. And their song "Gee" - everybody was learning that choreo when it first came out.

Part of the appeal of KPOP has always been fun dance moves. It was more common during the “2nd generation” of KPOP for the dances to be easier for people to learn. A lot of KPOP fans like to play the “random dance game” where the chorus of a popular kpop song will play and anyone who knows the dance jumps in. Since idols spend a lot of time promoting on the same shows, trendy songs/dances spread like wildfire 🥰

Variety shows are very popular in S. Korea, which is what most of the show clips are from. It is very common for Boy Groups to be challenged to perform Girl Group dances, usually for a reward of some sort or just for fun. So the dance line usually learns the most popular ones for these shows, but RM and V especially have always seemed to enjoy learning them as well and taking part.

Omg I finally have time to watch this, love your reaction! The boys know the dances for a couple of reasons:
    1. Some of these are pretty viral songs and dances that almost everyone knew
    2. They were fans of the song/group/dance and picked it up for fun
    3. Some of the songs/dances were being promoted at the same time they were promoting so they picked them up while they were in waiting rooms and stuff. So they heard/saw these songs multiple times a week and their multiple takes for broadcast shows.

    @prisharai7225 Před 4 lety

Someone else already answered abt how the members know so many of the dances, but I wanted to add to it! Basically, in Korea it’s really common for the shows/interviews to have segments where the idol group dances to other groups’ songs. It’s fun to watch, fans of multiple groups enjoy one of their faves dancing to another one of their faves, and it’s good promo for both groups! The one doing the dance on the show will get attention from the other groups’ fans and obviously the actual song gets promoted too! bts stopped going on such shows almost at all bc of not being treated the greatest multiple times and now they’re so popular that they don’t even need that promo to be honest lmaooo. But bc that way there isn’t as much content for army, that’s why they do their own shows and gift us with shows like Run and Bon Voyage!

Especially EXID's Up & Down, that song is ICONIC and catchy af. You should react to them!! They're an amazing, my favorite girl group

there are so many k-pop groups! also, lot of these are 2nd generation and some of them are disbanded, like T-ARA or 4MINUTE. I would maybe recommend you to watch a compilation video of kpop evolution, with the biggest hits and groups in each generation.

it just like how everyone knows the dance to chicken noodle soup, cupid shuffle, gangnam style here in america... you just watch a mv and memorize the dance. its the same for both girl and boy groups in korea. And yea there are a lot more groups than you might think lol. Anyway I love this video since I love to dance and girl group dances are fun to learn (i just earned more and more by twice which you should watch if you haven't already :)

BTW there's like 100 new kpop groups debuting every year but barely any of them make it in the long run, they might release 2-3 mini albums until they don't have the budget to make more and by that time a lot of people just give up. There's a bunch of groups that has been doing extremely good and I think Kpop had it's phase where it was super cool for boy groups to know girl group dances and is a common thing that was showed off in variety shows.

You don't have to learn all of these girl groups since some of them aren't really active anymore or are disbanded. The ones that you'll probably hear about a lot will be Twice, Red Velvet, Black Pink, Exid. Oh and my personal favourite, MAMAMOO.

That girl from 14:43 is Park Jimin (yep just like our Jimin 😅 although nowdays in romanization she goes by Jamie dk exactly why tho, in Korean still the same) and she is ICONIC!!! She's very sassy as you saw but not disrespectful they were very playful on After School, I mean BTS and the hosts. Finally, stan her, she's also very talented!!

It's not unusual for idols to learn other idol group's choreo. Idk how they got time to memorize all those dance moves but somehow they all do. Especially when idols were still trainees, they learn a lot of choreos from other groups.

It's kind of a thing for girl groups and boy groups to learn and cover each other's dances either for practice or for fun or performances. Therefore, it would actually give me life if you watched a legit cover there're some really good ones. Boy group ones like Boy's Day, the cover of Psycho by Red Velvet (ton of others not listed), or girl group ones like: Loona covering NCT, GFriends cover of various boy groups (BTS and Seventeen included) (ton of others not listed).
