- Holidaying in Kenya! From big cats to elephants I'll show you the incredible sights the Maasai Mara has to offer on a Kenya wildlife safari! Witness elephants, lions, cheetahs and more while on this incredible journey through the savanna with our famously fantastic tour guide Paul Kirui. As a professional photographer I love the beautiful Maasai Mara and am choosing to spend the F1 off-season on a Kenyan safari. Join me to see amazing Kenyan wildlife and I'll show you how to take some amazing African wildlife photography shots. If you've never been on an African Safari you should rethink that now, my wife Tonya and I spent months travelling Africa capturing the beauty of Africa in our wildlife photography book, "Africa on Safari," and now we're back after several years away to share this incredible Kenyan wilderness experience with you.

00:13 for nine nights on Safari in Kenya
00:18 Things have gotten a bit hairy we've had
00:19 non-stop rain for about an hour
00:23 we have to dash back before the bridge becomes impassible and it's crazy
01:04 our tent looks to be cut off from the main part of the camp
01:16 see down here there's a quite a flow of water
01:35 the African Adventure Continues
01:45 we want to shoot low to the ground but we can't get out of the car
01:47 I put a camera with a very long lens 100 to 300
01:52 I put this on a monopod and dangle it down here near the grass Tyler connects via the
iPhone and we get these low level shots
02:05 although the difference in height is only about a meter it's a huge difference in the photo because you get
rid of a lot of the background by shooting low and you get more sky
02:20 we're setting up for a breakfast which is a traditional thing out here in the
middle of nowhere with plenty of wildlife around us
02:45 we're heading out looking for Lions
02:46 last night we found a dozen lions
02:59 we've come across this pride of about 12 or 13 Lions have killed a zebra
03:08 there are seven lazy Lions behind us
03:18 we got four giraffes here and we've got a camera sitting on the ground Tyler's doing the remote and it's a it's a really
different shot
03:51lovely light we saw giraffes which we had silhouetted against the sun
03:58 a cheater and then seven Lions feasting on a very recent warthog kill and that was quite
interesting to watch
04:13 thunder lightning and rain and lions
04:19 two male lions not happy with another two so two are chasing two and we're chasing the four
04:30 we've raced ahead and we've got both pairs of lions coming towards us
04:40 it's quite exciting right with the fleeing
04:51 to our left is a beautiful hot air balloon
05:02 love this is breakfast in the Massai mara
05:04 we have this lovely little table out here and behind us a couple of lions wandering around and we'recompletely out here in the open
05:16 on the subject of meals out here you get fed three times a day a great breakfast
and we've chosen to have ours out here we get fed lunch and it's a three course meal always with soup at the start and a pretty tasty dinner
05:37 so what would you expect to pay for a safari like this well they start probably lower end 350
US a day per person and the top end can be over $1,000 a day
05:49 the difference in price boils down to the quality of accommodation and by paying more you get better access to the animals and it's a little more exclusive
05:58 a typical Safariday runs from 6 :30 a.m. until about 12:30 then you have a 4 hours off and you're back out here for another 2 hours finishing up at 6:30
06:12 I'm wearing my Valtteri Botas hat on Safari
06:18 Paul says he spotted a spotted cat it can only be one of two a cheater or a very hard to find leopard
06:30 it is a leopard on our third Safari day what a thrill seeing a leopard today
07:04 the leopard is a beautiful creature one of the hardest creatures to find and now all we're waiting on is a rhino
07:15 we’ve just seen a cheater and it's been a prolific morning for wildlife
07:21 I spent some 26 weeks over 2 and 1/2 years shooting wildlife in the end I produced this 204 page book Africa on Safari
07:29 when I was shooting this book I was using a buggy to get low and close to
animals but I didn't bring it with me on this trip
No place like Africa.... Proudly South African! 🇿🇦
Welcome to Kenya. As a Kenyan and as a great fan of F1, I am glad to see you in my home country. Enjoy your stay here and it is possible you will as much fun as Lewis Hamilton had when he visited the country.
You bet
Come to Botswana for a _real_ wildlife experience (ie. Okavango Delta or Chobe)
Kenya’s a kindergarden

I really appreciate the way you edit these videos so that even in the short amount of time we get a good impression of your adventures.
Everyone needs followers to sustain their channel and I want to commend you, as an avid follower, on the exceptional work you produce with every post to keep us engaged and entertained.
Thanks for being a follower
Welcome to Kenya , we are excited to have you. Great commentary and shots of a very beautiful and mesmerising place. Africa is magical! 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Thank you, I enjoyed visiting your beautiful country
I have another video going up in the next week which you will love
Glorious scenery. You've made me think maybe an African safari should be seriously considered. Thanks Kym & family.
Don’t dip into your signed print budget though.
Fantastic shots with those dark clouds behind the animals. Thanks Kym, and family.
Glad you enjoyed them
Welcome to kenya... You should come next year for WRC safari rally
I'd enjoy that but F1 schedule allows very few breaks
Hey Karibu Kenya. Enjoy your holiday in Maasai Mara.
Happy holidays!
Keep 'em coming Kym, finding this safari mini series fascinating!
More to come!
You pictures of the animals are out of this world😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

oooh nice, As a Kenyan, glad you shared your experience in our beautiful country😀
You're welcome
I proposed to my fiancé on safari in Tanzania last year. Truly an amazing continent filled with equally amazing people and wildlife.
It certainly is an amazing continent!
If you have a sibling thinking of a proposal, think of a Star Bed in Samburu, Kenya. (There is more in country)
Thank this YT stranger later. 😉
Welcome to my beautiful country Mr.Kym #staypassionate💯
Thank you Stay Passionate
Karibu kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪
Welcome to our beautiful country
I always love visiting!
Welcome to kenya my friend there so much more to see
There is indeed
I really like your F1 journalism and photos. Your Kenya Safari video was an absolute treat !!
My daughter was in Njoro, Kenya for 6 months of 2022. I want to buy your book for her.
Go to “Kym‘s shop” at Kymillman.com to order your copy. It’s available for shipping to most countries
You made me homesick already. Great video Mr Kym.
Glad you enjoyed
That was a breath of fresh air watching this kym.. Absolutely brilliant especially the Lepord ❤❤❤❤
Magnificent creature
What a combination F1 and African wildlife, doesn't get any better! I read about your wildlife exploits from back in the day and I thought those skills could translate to photographing F1, reckon I wasn't wrong! Obviously you excel at both! Cheers from the UK.
You spend enough time doing it and you get good
Must be a popular place at the moment. Been following a US photographer, Jared Polin, who's just returned from Africa after a photo safari.
I think your videos are getting to the top notch, no matter what you are reporting it is super interesting and you have a great persona in front of the camera. I am always eager to watch more of your videos, be they on a flight, a pitlane or especially on Safari, what other surprises do you have coming?
I appreciate that and hopefully yes
This reminds me so much of my holiday in Kenya. We only saw 1 leopard and it came just as close to us as it did to yours. I can’t wait to go back next summer.
Great place
Looks like the best zoo in the world. The animals in their natural habitat. Fantastic 👍🏻
It really is!
@@KymIllmanin Kenya there are no zoos , some national parks are bigger than some European countries
Congrats on 300,000 subs Kym. Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
Hello kym, as you enjoy the magical safari, I'd love to here some of the F1 experiences first hand, a meet a greet maybe...🤷♂️

When you're back mate, maybe stop by by Alkimos on your way to Lanno's. Would be awesome to grab a beer and listen to your F1 stories and just how you go about doing what you do. Either way, have a good un!
one day Mr. Kym, I will be able to buy all of your things!!! Love your videos! Love your family! What a grand life ... just grand
I await that day with great eagerness
That squeegee defrosting tip from the driver is GENIUS!

Hold on tight, from past experiences whenever a leopard is heard over the radio the guides driver like there is no tomorrow….Thank you again Kym for showcasing my country next time the Kenyan f1 community am sure would love to have an interactive session with you 🇰🇪
He did.
I had thought you had the perfect job as an F1 photographer but now you add Safari photographer to that has to be the best job ever!
He hasn't been doing F1 for long. He's a man of many talents
Gotta stay busy
@KymIllman stay busy.... another way to say stay passionate!!
Welcome to kenya. I was in Kenya in August . Currently in the states but im from there . Enjoy your stay .

Wow indeed
Welcome to Kenya 🎉 my country. Immediately you said you are coming to Kenya in your previous video my heart skipped a beat. It's because of your videos that I've been truly able to keep up with F1 calender other than that I wait for Drive to Survive 🫣. Hope your family and you enjoy your stay. Can't wait for your next review. Cheers 🥂

Great to hear
Kym is going to make the F1 off season even better this year for sure,
The low photos with stormy backgrounds are mega ❤
I will try my best
beautiful photos
Many thanks
Kym, what a great video, glad to see you're enjoying some hard-earned family time after many weeks away from home chasing the F1 circus. What a thrill to have the animals come so close to your vehicles. I'm looking forward to the next video!
It rarely disappoints
I go to Kenya every year I would recommend elephant pepa camp and rockero
Noted!
Awesome stuff, Kym. Enjoy your time off!!
Thanks! Will do!
You should visit cape town in south africa you will enjoy it Kym
I'm certain I would
You are the David Attenborough of Formula 1. 🏎️💨
Ha ha
Wow. Great F1 picks and now I see safari talents as well. All we need now is a tasteful boudoir series and people will write songs about you. 👍
I have those pics too.
@@KymIllman 🎤🎶🎶🎵
Want more videos like this)
I'll see what I can do
Looks like you were on a mud safari but then you got the beautiful animals shots!
That beautiful leopard looked so much better than some people you see running around in way too many leopard print clothes!
Yes, thanks
Mara Experience 🇰🇪🇰🇪
I love the Mara experience
We were in Maasai at the same time, that dark sky giraffe shot we almost have the exact same haha
Loved it.
Brilliant vid as always Kym, for some reason this didnt pop up in my sub feed.
Glad you found it anyway - will sort that out
Lewis Hamilton visited The Girrafe Centre in Karen Nairobi you should check that out too😉
Done that a couple of times now
Well we could meet up for a selfie since you're in Kenya😅😅😅@@KymIllman
I've been waiting for this video. Kym, how about a video where you describe your path of how you got into the F1 scene?
See my F1 photography video playlist
Quality content as always Kym!
Much appreciated!
In Toyota we trust.
Welcome to our country!! Meet and greet?
Not sure I can fit a meet and greet in on this trip
Lovely video of the Masai Mara. You're really enjoying it here in Kenya despite the rainy weather.
Also, am I the only one who hasn't been getting notifications from this channel? I have to see from recommended videos or search for the channel
Notifications should be fixed for next time
i gotta agree with kym no bush
Do a meet and greet in Nairobi.
Just transiting.
toto wolf blessed the rain down in Africa
Lol
Absolutely
Kym do a meet and greet for your kenyan fans
I don't think I will have enough time unfortunately
Maasai Mara is pretty cool though id prefer Amboseli because of the Mt Kilimanjaro backdrop.
I’ve been to Amboseli and did love it there as well
@@KymIllman Nice!! Love the morning fog rolling from the mountain
@@KymIllmantry Aberdare National Park next time you will forget the Mara
“Yambo “
After that water crossing, I think I’d be squeegeing my seat not the windshield
Very nice! I know your schedule is dictated by the F1 calendar Kym but do you think this is a good time of the year to go to Africa? My wife and I are talking about a trip.
Any time is great. It’s quieter now and that’s a plus.
@KymIllman
I've recently noticed that your videos are not appearing on my "Subscriptions" tab here on CZcams. I could only find this video on my "Home" tab...
Should be fixed for next time
Not sure if it’s just me, but the last few videos have not shown in my subscriptions feed. Anyone else had this?
Yes will sort
Why am i not able to see the video in subscriptions page.
The previous video also didn't appear.
Thanks should be sorted next video
kym do a meet and greet in Hungry
Will keep it in mind
Karibu Kenya Kym.
I hope you get to see the only grizzly bear in Africa whilst you're here in our beautiful country.
That would be something!
Driving with the drivers looks more dangerous than heading into a corner at 200 mph!😊
No seat belts too.
Are you coming to Nairobi Kym. Please do. 😂😂😂
Just transiting
@@KymIllman let me wait for the 3pm live feed
Lately most (if not all) of your videos doesn't appear at my subscriptions feed at all even though I am of course subscribed and having notifications on. Weird issue only with your channel.
Yep am sorting it out thanks for noting
My local Zoo has all of those animals and costs only $20 to enter 😂 Love those low shots with the dark clouds in the background.
I wish I had the camera buggy with me still!
Amazing how much crazy wildlife you came across. Seemed like there was no shortage! Great video
We are having an amazing time! Stay tuned for the second video
strange, this video did not appear in my subscriptions. i found out from instagram
Glad you found it
How much a trip like this would cost roughly for 4 people?
Depends on what accommodation you chose but between $USD350 to $1,000 per day
When I click on subscriptions CZcams brings up the newest videos I subscribe to, except yours and the settings are the same as the others.
If I don't look for your videos every couple of days, I'll miss them.
Is anyone else having this problem.
Yes thanks will sort
I've always wannted to go up in a hot air balloon Don't suppose I shall get round to it now I'm 70
Why not do it now?
@@KymIllman Ah , well minor snag is I broke 2 vertebrae and some discs got compressed. When I can walk again properly , maybe this coming summer (2024) :)
Where’s the penguins
But the problem i have is to buy your marchandise from your site.
Some countries it’s just to tricky to ship to. We learnt our lesson some time ago and unfortunately we have had to dip out on sales from a number of countries.
should be easier to catch on film then something moving at 300 km.
Shooting from low angles though, is uncomfortable
Your videos are not appearing in the Sub boxes
Thanks will sort
