  • Before we could head to our next event, the Gridlife Festival Tour at Carolina Motorsports Park, we had to install some more parts on our GTI to get it ready for the track. To fix the common issue of the PCV system on these direct-injected Volkswagen GTI's, we installed the Stage 2 Billet Catch Can Kit from 034Motorsport.
    Learn more about the parts we installed here:

    Had no idea how bad the stock system works until a friend was auto crossing theirs and came through the stop box with a giant plume that made everyone think it blew its turbo.

    Running the replacement plate increases pressure inside the engine which pummels your seals as it will not have crankcase vacuum at low PRM/idle. Great for track only, but for street, there are other OE options (BL revision PCV, MK8 PCV) that have been shown to work to eliminate the smoking issue as well. BL PCV got rid of my wagon's smoking issue.

      @kartsgeo.
      i heard this cons having replacement plate from dailydrivemqb. its bad specially if you daily drive your car because of low rpm/idle in the traffic.
      thinking to get mk8 retrofit pcv to mk7 instead of OCC with plate pcv.
      i daily my mk7-R.

      @@karstgeo7290 no smoke or no any issues at all right now for stock pcv.
      just got stage 2 tuned 3 weeks ago.
      to avoid the oil spill on turbo or intake, which one should i get in the future, mk8 ocv or occ with pcv plate ?

      @@boybenta1190 You should just use your OEM PCV and only bother with this if you have issue. Most folks see no drama even tuned. IF you have issues, the MK8 setup is prefered IMHO...that's IF you have issues...the PCV works fine for most folks.

    Saw you guys shooting the video in the paddock, had I known it was for Grassroots I would have said hi. Very informative, had a MK6 before the Type R did not know this was such a crucial upgrade for the EA888. Great content!

    Are these systems with a new plate legal in GS or STH? Stock PCV system is awful. Even an in-line catch can with the stock PCV valve bleeds oil into the intake.

    Wonder if the OE RS3 brake cooling ducts are effective enough to cure your issue. They're cheap enough to not break(heh) the bank trying.

    Other than the back of your car being cleaner, do you have any more objective data indicating that the catch can install was a success? For example, how much oil did you have to replace after a track day before...how much now?

      No smoke plumes on track is decent objective data 😂

    Too bad that Oil Catch can isn't 50 state legal on the road. Automatic Emissions Fail here in California with one.
