    I actually like to use the whole "marry child to non-heir and kill all the heirs" quite a lot but it can get messy. One time I married my son who wasn't inheriting anything to a king's daughter, killed the king, tried to kill the three sons but failed with the last one so he managed to pop out a son before I finally killed him, and then killed the baby which made the daughter, and later my dynasty, the sole inheritor. Only to later realize that my son wasn't doing his duty so I had to seduce my son wife, she popped out twins, and a good thing to because my son died before leaving any of his actual children. My character was also Forgiving even though he was mega good at intrigue so I kept getting stressed. Still worth though.

    If a ruler has an heir with no titles of their own yet, and that heir has children, you can marry your daughter/granddaughter to the foreign ruler's eldest grandson matrilineally without incurring the -1000 point deduction in acceptance chance. This only works if the ruler's son doesn't have any titles yet, though. But this way your dynasty will eventually take control of that title, and you don't have to do any scheming/murdering!

    love the videos, keep them coming. On marriages, it was critical as Kingdom of Munster (Ireland) to form the empire of brittania early. The biggest stepping stone was betrothing my daughter quickly to the son/heir of mercia and using an alliance with mercia, I was able to expand into welsh/scottish area. I kept calling mercia into wars and they only had 1 son. The king got injured and died to his wounds leaving the son to be the ruler. When I died and started playing as my heir, I killed the son (my nephew) allowing my sister to be the ruler of mercia. From there, I was able to drag mercia into wars with kingdom of england (their liege) through 'call house member to war'. Everything else is history after toppling kingdom of england.

    You don't necessarily need to give your dynasty members independent realm to produce renown. Of course it's probably better to do that anyway. But for the purposes of renown generation, the game checks for a ruler's top liege of their dynasty and that's the ruler that produces renown for that dynasty. You can be a vassal and still produce renown as long as none of the lieges above you are of your dynasty.
    Say in the HRE, there are 10 dukes of your dynasty while the emperor is of another dynasty, those 10 dukes will contribute 0.5 renown a month. And let's say there's an additional 5 counts of your dynasty in the HRE that are not subjects of your dynasty dukes, those 5 counts will contribute 0.25 renown a month. But the moment anyone from your dynasty becomes the emperor, only the emperor will produce renown for your dynasty.

    • @bumptiousbuffoon7824
      @bumptiousbuffoon7824 Před 3 lety

      Something's off then because that doesn't track with my experience. I reconstituted the Roman Empire and kept all remaining Empire tier titles for myself. Almost all the myriad kings and dukes under me were of my dynasty. My renown kept growing over time, up to 40+ per month by 1453. That's not possible under the system you describe. Any sources for that information?

    • @bumptiousbuffoon7824
      @bumptiousbuffoon7824 Před 3 lety

      Actually, this is incorrect. Renown is generated by:
      * each living member (0.02/month)
      * each ruler who is not a vassal under member of the same dynasty (0.12 to 2.0 /month)
      * each member married to a ruler of a different dynasty (0.1 to 1.6 /month)
      ck3.paradoxwikis.com/Dynasty

    • @softy9123
      @softy9123 Před 3 lety +6

      @@bumptiousbuffoon7824 how is that incorrect when that's literally what I said. I literally said as long as you're not a vassal of someone of your own dynasty you would generate renown even if you're a vassal. The only way you could be generating 40 renown a month is if you had like 600+ living members, you have a bunch of rulers that aren't in your realm that you're just not aware of, or you just misread.
      Your two statements literally contradict each other. one statement you say I'm incorrect while also stating literally the same thing I said. The other statement you claim to have generated 40 renown per month by having a ton of dukes and kings of your dynasty as vassals even though you literally said in your other comment "* each ruler who is not a vassal under member of the same dynasty". So even if you really did produce 40 renown per month, it can't be because of your dynasty vassals, only you as the emperor would be producing renown, and that remaining 38 would just be from hundreds of living members or rulers outside your realm you just don't know.
      So yeah idk what your point is. In my current game as Francia I have 6 kings of my dynasty, 3 of them my vassals and the other 3 are independent crusader states. I have 4 dukes of my dynasty, 2 are my vassals, 1 is a vassal of England, and 1 broke away from one of my crusader states. Only me, the 3 crusader states, and the duke from england and palestine are the ones generating renown, which matches the system where only rulers who aren't vassals of your dynasty will produce renown.
      As a side note, you also can't cheese the system by giving your dynasty members duchies and giving them to a kingdom vassal of another dynasty.

    • @bumptiousbuffoon7824
      @bumptiousbuffoon7824 Před 3 lety

      @@softy9123 I see what you were trying to say now. I was confused by your suggesting in the first paragraph that you can still produce renown so long as you aren't under a member of the same dynasty. This came across as as applicable to 'you the player' rather than 'anyone in your dynasty.' Your concluding sentence also suggests that once anyone becomes a vassal under the same dynasty no one else will generate renown, even if independent. It's a not unreasonable interpretation.
      I see what happened with my1453 game. Apart from 1,395 living members making it silly to keep track, a bunch of the modifiers list people because they hold special buildings that grant +5% renown like the Hagia Sophia, Dome of the Rock, Palace of Aachen, Notre Dame, etc. Universities also grant renown, but this also gets listed as a ruler. I probably got confused by that, conflating it with when I was conquering everyone.

    • @softy9123
      @softy9123 Před 3 lety

      @@bumptiousbuffoon7824 well I guess it is confusing when I said that no one else in my dynasty would produce renown but that example was just limited to the HRE and all of my dynasty is just inside it. I only mentioned the rulers within the empire and didn't specifically mention that I had no one outside the empire so I guess that's understandable.

Cinched scotland, married my heiress to her cousin, the king of england. Figured I'd have my grandson be the heir of ireland and scotland through me and england through his father. When I hit the mortal coil and my daughter reigned, I found my grandson wasn't a viable candidate to continue my line and I have no heirs left since I killed off all direct contenders including his baby siblings, fml. @marry for family - I did the trick with Byzantium. Had claimant to a duchy... but luckily: he also had a claim to the empire. So I married him to my daughter, then pressed his claim, made a siege of the city (extremely long one, I might add) and bang! Now their son is in my dynasty and rules the empire.
    Generally with tactics like that try to start a war when the enemy empire is right after the war and has soldiers depleted. It speeds up the process significantly. Also capturing duchy capitals instead of a counties tends to give some nice prisoners to sell in order to fund the war.

Using a daughter to marry a rich guy whom you seem to have a murder plot on or maybe if your lucky march off to war to a losing battle. He died and leave all his money to your daughter. IF she wasnt knocked up and had no kids all that money goes to you and not your daughter. As he died the land you gave him goes back to you as well. this only works for male only title owner law. since women in game seem to be items and not people when this law in effect.

    It won't let me assign anyone male/female to my council once I've brought them into my court. What am I doing wrong? I'm Roman Culture, Hellenic faith. I understand that male dominant faiths mean I can't assign women, but I literally married my court out to a bunch of Viking warriors and the like and it won't let me assign them even with a matrilineal marriage.

    Just got this game. I was posed to take land but didn’t want to go the route of war. I had a daughter and thought it would be great to marry her off in arranged marriage to the guys son. I however couldn’t locate the name of the kid on any list. Can 2 kids be arranged marriages. My plan was to do this and later when they grow up kill off his father so he slides in to power and then use my daughter as influence to gain the land.

      Yep - sounds like the other dude was a landed individual, which means he has to stay at his own court (since he's leading it!) and so anybody he marries needs to join him. Sorry, I should've been clear on that!

      Hooks always help, yep! You can also try to sway the appropriate individual to help improve relations. Keep in mind though, it's almost impossible to get a matrilineal marriage on a male land-holder - they know what's at stake!

    So I managed to acquire the whole of Britannia with my dynasty of Herculean, Beautiful, Fecund Geniuses... the problem is that everyone of my vassals are now of my dynasty in varying minor houses plus most of the courtiers in their courts are also related in some way...
    My question is thus:
    At what level or degree of separation does a dynasty member have to be to each other to avoid the inbreeding chance? 3rd cousins? 4th? 🤷‍♂️

    • @moralhazard8652
      @moralhazard8652 Před 3 lety +5

      from the wiki: "inbreeding is the process of two characters who are at least 4th degree relatives having children together. Such children can be born with negative congenital traits even if neither parent has them. However, there is a small chance for the child to gain the Trait pure blooded.png Pure-Blooded trait instead. The chance to gain inbreeding traits is low in the first generation, but each successive generation has a higher chance."
      Fourth-degree relatives include an individual's great-great-grandparents, great-great-grandchildren, and first cousins once-removed (i.e., the children of the individual's first cousins).

    dunno about the video but my strategy has always been get myself lustful and get a lot of babies ask your other male children to take vows or castrate them if your byzantine and marry off your daughters to kings counts dukes and sometimes even emperors just because of how useful renown is

    • @Cecilia-ky3uw
      @Cecilia-ky3uw Před 3 lety

      also it gives you a network of alliances so you can invade whatever you want

    • @Cecilia-ky3uw

    • @Cecilia-ky3uw

      and if I had a claim on the HRE i could invade and claim the title right now

    • @Cecilia-ky3uw
      @Cecilia-ky3uw Před 3 lety

      also if you play a small kingdom, duchy or tribe use the ruler designer and give yourself as much fertility as you can i recommend you be a female as females get prestige from giving birth and being pregnant

    • @Cecilia-ky3uw
      @Cecilia-ky3uw Před 3 lety

      those very sons and daughters can also be used instead of castratingf or forcing vows you can use them to get renown by granting them titles under you instead of course you need to make sure that they dont rebel however usually brothers seem to like each other more than if theyre not brothers and even if they take your kingship youll still have a title and troops if you manage to convince your liege to allow you to conquer outer territories or maybe you just keep simcitying with what you have you should be able to rebel
