All the tips to grow radish (mooli مولی) will be discussed here. I hope our vegetable farmers will be able grow this crop successfully and profitably after watching this valuable video on cultivation of radish crop. Radish or mooli is a vegetable which is grown in winter. Anyhow, it can also be sown in summer. Winter radish gives better yield as compared to summer grown raddish. Summer radish crop is more susceptible to diseases and pests as compared to winter grown or seasonal grown radish crop.
Radish cultivation in Punjab, Pakistan:
Seedrate: 1.5 kg to 2 kg in choppa method of sowing and 3 kg in case of seed broadcasting and 4-5 kg seed is required in case of early sowing of raddish crop.
Sowing time: Best sowing time for raddish crop is September and October months in Pakistan but it is also cultivated in July and August that is called Ageti kasht.
Method of sowing: Broadcasting of seed and then making ridges or ridges preparation and then seeding is done by chopa method. Both are performed in fields by growers.
Planting geometry: ridge to ridge 2-2.5 ft abd plant to plant 1-2 inch distance is maintained.
Raddish varieties: Laal pari, red nake, green nake, red late, chalees roza, fourty days, desi sufaed etc.
Thinning is must to get high yield from raddish field.
Fertilization: 1 bag DAP and 1 bag SOP Sulphate of Potash at land preparation time and one bag urea 20-25 days after sowing.
Irrigation: Raddish needs moist soil to germinate seed and to grow well in first 20 to 25 days. After that farmers can restrict frequent irrigations.
Diseases: Disease infestation is usually high in summer sowing radish crop. Brown spot disease is commonly observed in radish field in July sowing crop.
Insects pests: Insects pests attack or infestation is also high in summer early sowing radish field. It is not serious issue in seasonal sowing crop. White fly, aphids, army worm etc attack on early sowing crop.
