  • This is some information on how I hunt with archery and specifically small game. These are points used to take animals by blunt force trauma.
You can use any bow with these but I try to stay at 30-50# recruve. You do not need a heavyweight bow and if you do hunt with a heavy draw weight you will get better kills, but if you fire a lot of arrows, you might wear yourself down. I can go out for a full day and shoot animals with a 40# darw weight and not be too worn out.
Titan Thrasher Small Gamer Points are easy to find but can get expensive if you end up losing arrows. The 357 magnum brass is the most economical if you want to build your own. Just cut up a sacrifice a few 12ga buck shot, and use the buckshot as a means to add more FOC weight. remember you are firing a 700-900grain shift at 58-80mph by the time it hits the animal. So it's like hitting the animal with a small peen or ball hammer.
For arrow weight, I find 9-12 grain of weight per lb of draw-weight is ideal. The more is better at the reduction of speed. If you can break a beer bottle at 10 yards with your setup, then IMHO you are good to go ;)
Wooden shafts with 5" Parabolic RW feathers in bright colors are what I like to use. Pink or Chartreuse fletched arrows are the best at recovering your shaft and seeing it in flight if you should miss or overshoot the animal. Most small game animals do not have the reflects like a deer and animals like. raccoon, possum, or armadillo, might not even run completely away if you miss. They might think the shaft that hit the ground was just a branch falling from a tree.
3rivers is my go-to spot, I try to avoid basspro or cabelas for archery supplies.
