  • Dr. Rahul Doshi discusses Abbott’s Aveir™ VR Leadless Pacemaker implantation advantages and processes along with his patient, Chelsey Cornwall, the first U.S. patient implanted with the Aveir VR LP.
The presentation given at Heart Rhythm Society’s 2022 conference offers a rare opportunity to hear from a patient who also is in the CRM business. Young, vital, and active, Chelsey knew the Aveir VR Leadless II Study was coming up and hoped to qualify so she could avoid the physical restrictions that come with traditional pacemakers; she wanted to get back to her gym workouts right away.
Dr. Doshi and Chelsey offer insight and perspective from both the clinician and patient point of view, both pre- and post-implant. Aveir VR LP’s advantages are not limited to device implantation procedure, but also include device chronic retrieval.
Dr. Doshi demonstrates insertion via catheter, as well as active fixation and screwing in the device. He also explains options forward. Because Aveir VR LP is potentially upgradable to a dual chamber system, upon regulatory approval, it offers future options, such as upgrades and chronic retrieval.
