- When it comes to golden age TV stars, few names stick out like Dick Van Dyke. As the star of his eponymous sitcom, he cultivated a squeaky clean image for himself-one which, as it turned out, became the perfect cover for a life filled with dirty little secrets. This living legend’s story is a lot more complicated than it seems on the surface.

Dick Van Dyke is a real star, always has been, always will be.
My sons who are now 25 & 32 got hooked on The Dick Van Dyke Show reruns when they were children & still enjoy catching a rerun to this day. The scripts were so good, funny, & wholesome, and Dick was so talented. I think my younger son’s favorite episode was when Rob had a dream his hair had turned to lettuce after using an oil & vinegar hair tonic! He continues to entertain people of all ages 60 years later!
😂😂😂👌
Ahhh, thank you so much for making this video. I have always admired Dick Van Dyke for my entire life. He gave me an image of a good man to look up to once my own father died when I was a young child. As much as I’ve had to learn the hard way no one is perfect and it’s impossible to try to live up to this, people can still be “good” and “genuine” and “authentic”. Those are attributes I’ve always thought of when I have seen Dick Van Dyke in his movies and tv series. He deserves to be happy in his senior years and I’m glad his family approves of his new bride. May they have many happy years together.
I am so glad to find that unlike many stars today, he is a decent man. I am fed up the way click bait is used to make the person in question sound bad. Why? Anyway it is a good documentary. I enjoyed watching.
Dick Van Dyke is a TRUE NATIONAL TREASURE 🥰❤️🥰❤️🥰❤️ I’ve loved him since I saw him in Mary Poppins when I was a kid 🩷 Such a great talent and great human being, so glad he’s found happiness in his golden years, he deserves it !!!!! ❣️❣️❣️
Dick Van Dyke was the greatest new talent "find" of the 1960's! I do remember him, as early as the mid-50's,
on "The Phil Silvers show" & "The Garry Moore Show", but he didn't "hit his prime" until the start of the 60's!
"The Dick Van Dyke Show", in my opinion, was the beginning of the modern "sit-com", as we know them, today!
If he was an alcoholic & still has lived to nearly 100, then I say "I'll have what he's having"! America loves you, Dick!
Yes ,he appeared in a couple of
classic Bilko episodes.!!
Mr Van Dyke is a warm loving man💚💚💚
Dirty little secrets, ...... Oh please.
We all have secrets.
He is still handsome!
I loved Dick in Mary Poppins. I was ten and grieving from the death of my father when a kind neighbour and family took me to see the film and I loved it, still do. I am a cockney from Hackney and his accent sounded ok to me! He looks great for his age too. Such vibrant blue eyes.
My mother was a Cockney and I thought Dick 's accent was absolutely awful.

His accent in Poppins was a bloody disgrace
Lol, one of the worst accents ever. But Mary Poppins is a classic.
I think it was on an interview he did on ET, back in the 90's, Dick told a story of being recognised as Bert in a city park. He, and the little girl who asked him if he was Bert, ended up singing Let's Go Fly a Kite together. Shows what a kind man he is. Love him!
Dick Van Dyke entertained so many of us. From Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, to Mary Popping (a favorite of mine) and I loved the Dick Van Dyke show with Mary Tyler Moore.
Great entertainer!
Thank you Dick Van Dyke for sharing your many talents, you made my life better.
As a child of the 1960's I fell for the Image Dick Van Dyke as the Super Dad...and the "Swell Guy" in movies like "Bye, Bye, Birdie, Mary Popins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Cold Turkey" Then a great actor on Diagnosis Murder. But now, knowing the real man...makes him more human and relatible...We ALL have faults and we all hurt....And it is often hard to balance work and family..without neglecting one or the other....for himself the Ministry may have been a better choice....but for us... those wonderful characters he brought to life are indelible
Great video! I’m a huge fan of his. Thank you so much! 🙂
WOW. Carl Reiner and Dick Van Dyke. Magic. Dick was a master of physical comedy. History. I once worked for Nielsen. Magic.
Enjoyed the video. Thanks!
It looks like his Grand daughter died from Reye’s syndrome, I also developed this in the seventies. Because it appears to be the flu it is easily overlooked till too late. I had already had the chickenpox’s but was re-exposed to it and developed Reye’s syndrome. It took several months for me to recover to go back to school.🙏💕🙏💕
That's why one shouldn't give it to a teen recovering from chickenpox or flu or any child under 3. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen is safer for younger ones.
@@dreadcthulhu5 Back in the 70's they had baby Aspirin that was flavoured for kids. Ya, they don't make it anymore.
@@1962pjh It's for the best.
Always loved him. Always will.
Whew. You made it sound like some scandal would be revealed, but Im so glad there was none. He's a nice man and always has been , both in my dreams and thank goodness in reality! I would so love to give him a hug and a thank you. He's up there with Tom Hanks and Fred Rogers.
A treasure
nothing but love
Totally adore this man, Dick Van Dyke is a living angel❤❤❤
Doesn't everyone have things in their lives they are not proud of. It is called being human. I think he handled it well.
talk about a rough life - he's a survivor
Despite the awful British accent in Mary Poppins, this made Dick van Dike very popular in UK.
He’s still a great kind soul despite his life problems, there’s something to be sad about that……
His family line traces back to Mayflower passenger John Alden.
Mary was on tv as Legs on Richard Diamond.
Good bio! Truly enjoyable. Thank you!
He’s a fabulous actor same birthday as me who cares Dick on secrets
Dick Van Dyke was dinner time conversation in our home for years as My Father in Law Irving Rosenfeld was a cousin of Micheal Rosenfeld who was a founding member of CAA and got DVD the role of Bert in the movie Mary Poppins.
Nice bio ! 👍
He My favorite actor and his show I watch every episode Sunday night thanks dick and few other films you done great work
A video he made showed up in my feed not too long ago, but I can’t seem to find it now. He had mad it within the last year!
My stepdad was from Winterset Iowa where a release of the film he was in "Cold Turkey" was filmed. It was the grand opening & we were visiting from California. I was so excited because I loved Mary Poppins & I was going to meet Bert! He was the biggest jerk. I can only attribute this to his addiction at that moment. I was maybe 8 years old...1 of the many instances as a child from Los Angeles learning actors are just that ... acting....fake & knew not to idolize these people.
He was also great, in " A Night at the Museum"❤
Seriously $ 75 dollars a week would have been good money back then as I was grateful when I got a job for $ 5 an hour in n 1987
I love him all the to the moon ❤️💕
That explains why he didn't grow up in West Plains Missouri. That's where he was born.
Interesting. Good job.
if there is some "dirty little secrets" who in the hell are u to be exposing them ?
So far I haven't heard about Jerry.
Didn't know half this crap. Great video. Ty
Glad you're a fan
6:53 What???? So Dick Van Dyke created the moonwalk! And we’ve been erroneously crediting Michael Jackson for decades. 😮
DVD has serious TDS 🤣
This is a well done profile, but please now do the same for his brother Jerry Van Dyke, a very unique and talented performer himself, who also has a learning disability, but managed to have a successful career despite that. 😲🤠☮️
My brother used to call him Dyke Van Dick.
I can still hear the theme song in my head.
I’d like to know more about his relationship with Jerry.
I’ve read Jerry has had some issues with under age children. This was AGES ago. I’m sorry I don’t remember more details.
I have always adored him-I guess the fact that he and my dad resembled each other a lot has a lot to do with that ❤️, and as they aged, that never ended. Dad was many years younger than dick, but my first tv memories are of watching his show and thinking it was my dad on the tv.
How long was the Dtke Van Dick Show on? About 99 years,? 😮
Several years. My late mother,s cousin Walter Popp was musical co -ordinator on the Dick Van Dyke Show.Walter also worked with Danny Thomas and was friend of Thomas and Jay Silver heels, Tonto on the Lone Ranger the show.
The what show?
What dirty little secrets ?.
Pre-Michael Jackson! 6:52
Can you cover Basil Rathbone
"Hid secrets" is a bit strong. At what point do people have the right to say, "None of your business" ?
Great story. Please be careful about how fast you talk. It's sounded like you wanted to rush through the story to get it over and done with. Take a breath every now and then.

I will pray for you ! 🌿
@@user-oz4oy1kb3ryou obviously haven't met a lot of athiests.
What dirty little secrets?
Little known fact: His birth name was Peter VanLesbian.
I dread the day DVD get accused of something horrible.
Not a word about Barry ?
Who's Barry? He has a brother, Jerry Van Dyke
All we know about him over here is that he did the worst Cockney accent in history.
This is really very cheap of you. Here you've got an all-raround entertainment legend who's showed, all told, vastly more integrity than most. How many can you name that said no to the mafia in their salad days? Thanks for telling us how great a Guy DVD really is.
You're sickened by his "squeaky clean image". You prefer maybe Errol Flynn's concentrated sleaze? This video is a perfect snapshot of how everything's gone to hell since the constantly maligned 1950s. People do prefer decadence now -- it's all many have ever known.
Normal problems
stupid caption
I unsubscribed for the pronunciation of Jock I
and, jock-eyed
His brother Jerry had a black child out of wedlock.
He would never admit. The offspring looked exactly like him and dna proved
😂😂😂 SO did Bill Clinton.
@@kathyflorcruz552 love that!! ❤️
A child with a white parent is not Black.
Such a boring, flat, monotonous voice over. Cannot listen pass 5 minutes
When Harvey Korman left Carol Burnett's show, Dick Van Dyke took his place but his kind of humor and wit were totally different from Carol's and it just didn't work at all.
