Hmm I dunno, I am an underground fan but it you're talking about battle rapping (freestyle) then the jury is out on that one since allot of people don't freestyle anymore, it's all written. If it's a written/material showcase "freestyle" then the underground would win. If it's just a concert as you implied then the "mainstream" rap artist may have the advantage since they make cheap hooks and goofy choruses which snake charms the audience into thinking it's sick when its actually whack, especially if the audience is the judge then it wouldn't be as unanimous as you'd like to think it would be.
Not everyone likes that "Rah Rah" shit and at the same time not everyone likes that slow dopey Drake shit, those are the two extremes, people want something in the middle.
