      Haytham in a sense betrayed Edward by becoming a templar and Connor betrayed Haytham and honoured Edward by becoming an assassin

    I don't know why people are constantly saying that Connor was a boring and serious character, Altair wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs either.

    • @greyfox129
      @greyfox129 Před 10 lety +105

      i agree about connor. most i hear what people wanted was pretty much a carbon copy Ezio who is a playboy and while Ezio is the greatest the last thing i wanted was some stupid knock off wannabe Ezio. Connor to me was a good change of pace and while he was at first naive i enjoyed his slow disillusionment to the men who sparked the revolutionary war including the deteriorating friendship between him and washington. to me Connor was the most honorable of all the assassins we've played. Altair was cold, arrogant, cruel throughout the whole game. the only time i saw him truly regain his honor was in revelations. Ezio was a great character but his need for vengeance outweighed his honor. connor from the start was all about freedom and justice and while at the time he thought charles lee was the person who burned his village (SPOILERS!! He found out washington was responsible for it) which claimed his mothers life he moved past personal vengeance and wanted him dead for his crimes on the innocent lives he's killed.

      greyfox129 i don't know, connor was honorable but boring, i just finished black flag and I LOVED edward, and i liked haytham too so i would like a game in which you can play as haytham in his youth

      greyfox129 Yh Edward was great too, I hated Connor. When his mother was killed - he set out to avenge her, but what he instead did was help his mother's killer kill his own father too.The whole thing made me feel dirty. And his people were oppressed anyway in the end by the patriots - it just made the whole story seem like a waste of time without a payoff and Connor basically a pointless assassin. Also it was the first time where the templars were more charismatic and likable than the assassins, Haytham's character was amazing - I would've actually preferred playing as him than connor throughout the game. And when you prefer a templar over an assassin in an AC game. You know that Assassin's doing something wrong. Why kill charles lee and not washington when they're as bad as each other, and personally for connor - washington's done worse like burn his villiage, kill his mother etc. Overall connor was bland, moronic and overall useless as he achieved none of the goals he set out to achieve.

    • @greyfox129
      @greyfox129 Před 10 lety +3

      omar ramirez i liked haytham he was an interesting character but the game would have to be called Templars Creed since he was never an assassin member. Reginald Birch raised him to be a Templar.

  • @Inigo90ful
    @Inigo90ful Před 10 lety +78

    And, if it helps
    1- Connor talked about Edward in the DLC
    2- Haytham's words were said in an interview of Adrian Hough (Haytham's voice actor). They are from the book Forsaken, which is Haytham's journal. Fans asked him to say them, and he did.
    3- Edward died when Haytham was 10 by Reginald Birch's men. Birch brainwashed Haytham, and made him a templar. Later (1757), Haytham found out that Birch, his mentor, was the one who killed his father, and he killed him for revenge.

    Why people hate connor so much? He's by far much more human than altair and ezio, he sees the world as such a white and black vision and latter in sequence 9 when he meets haytham, haytham tries to explain him that the world is made of shades of gray and meanwhile connor refuses that idea. However, after the last mission, connor gets to see some slaves in boston/newyork (not sure where) and doesn't find his people in his village and then you can see in his face he now understood what his father was trying to teach him....That final had such potential for a new game where connor is either tempalr nor assassin but rather some1 who tries to unite them under the ideal of "freeing as many people as posible, control problematic people".

      *EDIT*: And on a more serious note, I just didn't find Connor interesting enough. His cause in the game felt bland and I thought Ubisoft could've made a better work with him, for example his personal traits. He just didn't feel descisive enough, if you know what I mean.

    3 characters, different story, different personality, different background, different backstory. One cannot compare Edward, Haytham and Connor. Edward has his own soft side, like when Thatch died, or when his wife left him, or maybe when he saw his kid for the first time. That almost make me cry. Haytham lost his dad in his early years, and he was later influenced by Birch. Birch himself is an asshole, that's why Haytham becomes so cruel later in his life. But that doesn's make him a pure evil since he's still took a great care to JSK (Jennifer Scott-Kenway), but that wasn't mentioned in the game. Connor, his life wasn't any better than those 2 guys. Sure he was annoying as hell. He doesn't understand sarcasm and jokes (Battle of Bunker Hill with Putnam), naive as hell, and so on. But a stoic character like him means that in real life, you'll hope you could be like this guy. He was so persistent, that he after Lee even he was injured. About skill, Connor has more brute force than both guys, Edward has the most fluid movement and Haytham's swordfighting technique was beautiful.

    • @MrTouloir
      @MrTouloir Před 10 lety +6

      Yeah, I too would have loved playing as Haytham. But as Orson Welles (and Desmond) said, "If you want a happy ending, that depends, of course, on where you stop your story."
      So, think it's better to have this poetic ending instead of a lame cliffhanger in the middle of Haytham's life or even worse, with Edward's death. They made a nice decision, for once.

    • @timbrinkhof7391
      @timbrinkhof7391 Před 10 lety +2

      Ethan Woodgates I think they moved too fast. What they could have done was to make a game about Achilles and Haytham. Like Achilles becoming an Assassin the same time as Edward is murdered in London and Haytham is raised by Birch. Then you could play as the both of them. But the real shit happens in America, where Achilles has established the brotherhood and he has become a mentor. When you play as young Connor in ACIII, Haytham spent his time hunting down ALL the colonial assassins, truth is he even killed Achilles' son, Connor, that's why they know one another so awfully well in AC III.

    • @MrTouloir
      @MrTouloir Před 10 lety

      Tim Brinkhof He wasn't killed by Templars at all. He simply died of typhoid fever just like his mother. And I think the DLC will make another link between the two games, as Achilles could have been a former slave freed by Adewale (he was 20 in the 1730s). Then why not play as Haytham, but we now know his whole story. Young Achilles would have been interesting, but he had no descendant.

This is also the reason i think a lot of younger player didn't like AC3 story, it isn't as straight forward like previous AC games. It's no longer just a generic good vs evil theme, but two side with conflicting ideology going at it.

And with AC III they really shone blending the Assassins and Templars in, this clever producing felt taken from AC IV because of the negative reviews AC III got from those who did not understood

    I hope they continue the Kenway line of things. I quite liked Edward and Haytham. Conner got a bit iffy with some odd character choices and a personality I found to be a bit weird at times. His obsession with Charles Lee was a tad over drawn.

      I personally though Haytham was a bit of a jerk. The fact that he killed pretty much everyone for almost no reason at all. Plus, he was just so.....mean and sometimes he was almost rude.
      Connor was after Lee because he blamed him for the village burning. Plus, the two really hated each other, and Connor found more and more reasons to kill him. Yes, he was a bit overboard with the whole obsession thing, but for a good reason.
      I like Edward because he had a very interesting personality. He had a very sad story, but he had a very unique way of dealing with the Templars.

    • @Look_ADog
      @Look_ADog Před 10 lety +7

      Umm...Charles Lee is the reason had to watch his mother die and his village burn...He has every reason in the world to want to gut him like a pig. And he fights for the protection of his people and...as much as I like Edward...he's just obsessed with treasure and women.
      His personality was the strong, stoic, silent type but under that he cared deeply for his friends and people. If that's not a bit of personality I don't know what is.

    Like both Edward & Haytham... would have like Connor too, but I find him overly naive... unreasonably so, and consider the amount of years in the game, he seems the most lacking in character development.

    • @theraccoon1768

      i wonder why they made Connor seem like a funny guy in the beginning, i litterally cranked up when he sat down on that chair and it broke down, his character does progress tho, he progresses down the road of becoming boring, at some point i thought what the developers were thinking when they made Connor, they made him look like a stupid naive and overall boring character, and that after a protagonist like Ezio...

    • @biocapsule7311
      @biocapsule7311 Před 10 lety +6

      TheRaccoon I actually didn't like Ezio's period all that much... mostly because his story-line, particularly the characters are too "black & white"... there's no real grey area to them. The Kenway story-line is slightly different, the Templars has much better presentation of their views and the Assassins slightly more hypocritical.
      Don't think Connor is boring... however the setting is actually boring, both story-line & aesthetically. I find Colonial Boston lacking in character compare to the shanty town of Caribbean.

    with my opinions the best kenway is by far edward i dont like assassins creed 3 that much because to me it wasnt that fun but AC4 is much better and more fun to me I hope they make a new one about edward

    • @valravn3974
      @valravn3974 Před 10 lety +9

      i wouldn't compare AC4 with AC3 like that. AC4 had a bigger map that was fun to explore, hunting whales and boarding ships. But AC3 had a better and a longer story. Edward was justing fighting for money. But Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor was fighting for peace and justice in the most epic was as possible. Im not saying that AC4 or Edward is bad, im just saying that
      1:AC3 was more epic
      2:You Shouldn't compare two games from the same videogame-series. (unless its in Call Of Duty...INFINITY WARD VS TREYARCH)
      3.PEACE!!!

    • @XelementProductionz
      @XelementProductionz Před 10 lety +2

      Jolle Boyx Yes I completely agree with you there. But Edward wasn't only in it for fighting and money, He wanted to change and become a better man then he was when he lived with Caroline. And he still loved her, And Edward Lost all his friends, Instead of just being a Pirate, By the end of the game, He became something more. ( A better person) By helping the assasins and what not? One of the sad things is that Caroline never saw Edward become a better man, She died, So that's a sad turn for Edward's life, and After the credits you see the scene with him and Haythem and when he is a father. I guess AC4 was mainly a massive change and an improvement of Edward Kenway.

    • @valravn3974
      @valravn3974 Před 10 lety +1

      XelementProductionz i have completed the game so there's no need to tell me the whole ending again. But you do have a point. And i didn't mean that Edward ONLY was fighting for money, but it was a pretty big part of the game where cash was the only thing he cared about. I don't want you to see me as a AC4 hater, cause i loved that game too. But AC3 will always not only be my favorite AC game, but my FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME! (so far at least...)
