- In this video, I show you how to do a mini drop swirl / drop swirl ~ cold process soap making tutorial.
Welcome to I Dream in Soap. This video shows you how to make a mini drop swirl soap with a separate different coloured layer at the base. I try to give lots of advice about how to make the soap, including things like how to do the pour, the type of trace you are looking for etc. You don’t need a tall and skinny loaf mold to make this sop, a normal loaf mold will be fine. The difference between how to make a drop swirl and how to make a mini drop swirl is simply how much batter you pour at the same time, play with the technique and see which you like best.
I try to give lots of hints and tips in all of my videos, so hopefully, you can use some of the techniques in this cold process soap making tutorial in your own soap making.
I hope you enjoy the video. I'd love it if you would give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel and ring the notification bell. These things all help me to grow my channel. If you have any comments or question please leave them in the comment section below and I will get back to you.
I have also made a video (very detailed, so it's quite long) of how to make a silicone soap mold / mould liner, here's the link if you would like to see it:

Cold process soap involves the necessary use of sodium Hydroxide (lye) which is a very dangerous substance. Before attempting and cold process soap making you should ensure you are fully aware of the lye safety procedures and always wear the correct safety equipment when making soap.

I appreciate that you are willing to be patient and just stir. Sometimes the slow poke ways are the best.
It certainly is, thanks so much

He,he are you still going. I do appreciate it, thank you :-)
@@IDreamInSoap until I comment on all of the videos 😊
I think fate brought me to this video Lisa! I have been testing a few Candleshack fragrances over the last 3 days and had a disaster with Raspberry & Black Peppercorn seizing on me. I have a bottle of Black Plum & Rhubarb which is next on my "to test" list and was wondering if it was going to be a hideous repeat of the Raspberry incident! Thanks to you, I now know I can jump right in and have a go with it without worrying about seizing! Thank you!
Hey Ann, ooh you will be perfectly fine with that one. It's one of my go to ones when I need a fluid batter it stays lovely and fluid and the scent stays really well at the 3% we can use too.
Fabulous video. You are very talented and super organised. Your explanation of everything you do is so detailed and clear 😍
Thank you so much Wendy, that's so kind of you to say. Stay safe and well :-)
wonderful tutorial lisa! looking forward to your silicon mold tutorial! with many thanks in advance :)
Thanks Maya, I'm just editing it now :-)

Hi Lisa, I like the tall and skinny molds. I like a bar of soap like that so it can be held in the hand. I see so many soapers that make impracticable soap.
I love the tall and skinny too, they're my favourite, as you can say you can get hold of them and use them. I just made some stone soaps, where I made the molds from real stones and I spent a while picking up all the stones and holding them and I got some that feel fantastic to hold. I know, I don't get the cupcakes and spikey things sticking out of the top of soaps, or my favourite 'peeve' designs that just come off after 1 or 2 washes because they're just on the surface.
I love this, something that I can attempt doing lol
Pls do more designs for the not so talented soapers
So pleased you like it. Why not check out my 'You can make this soap series' I've been making soaps with lots of extra instruction specifically so they're not too tricky and people can attempt them. Here's a link to the series so far czcams.com/play/PLLJ9lYi4Ay2w0aerHdTa0qIpMuMfLMVBe.html
I Dream In Soap thanks ,one day i may be able to do that. Thanks so much, I learned alot from you
Often times if you Oil the wood before you put in the silicone each time, it can help keep the silicone from bowing in. And the wood loves the extra oil too.
OOh that's a handy tip :-)
Im very impressed with you're Robinson Caruso Mold! I wish you would have made a video about how to make it, and how to make the silicon mold! Bravo! And great work!! I live you're beautiful soap, thank you for sharing this technique!
Thank you so much Jean. As quite a few people have asked, I have actually made another silicone mould this morning and filmed it, as soon as it's set up and I've edited the video I will upload it.
Soap mould video now available czcams.com/video/WywjQP87KRk/video.html
If the interior sides of your wood mold is smooth, you can coat them with a thin layer of baby oil before you insert the silicon mold. The silicone mold will stick to the baby oil for the duration of your work plus baby oil preserves the wooden mold. I use this technique on my Etsy molds and I didn't pay £100 pounds for them. Snicker, snicker, snicker.
Thanks for the tip. 😉😍
Beautiful soap, I've never seen such a beautiful small drop swirl in different colours it could be scales of Dragons, snake or general reptilian. I would love to learn how you made your own silicone mold as I too in Tasmania are limited in shape and size for molds
Thank you so much Tanya. Quite a few people have asked, so I am literally just about to do a video, I don't really need another mould at the moment, so I'm going to make a small sort of half sized loaf mould which I can use as a testing mould for trying new things etc. It's dark here, so just waiting for daylight so I can film. But hopefully I'll have a video soon :-)

First off I Love your business name ♥️♥️♥️.
Thanks for sharing.
Hope you might show how you made your silicone liner?
Aw, no I didn't. As I labelled it a soap making video, I made it about the soap, including enough detail about making the liner would have made the video too long (and probably not what people were expecting from a 'making soap' video. If I make any more I'll be sure to video them. Ooh, just to add an edit. Quite a few people have asked to see how to make a silicone liner. So I'm making one right now, will upload as soon as it's recorded :-)

Such a beautiful soap. I love the colors you have chosen. It must bring you lots of satisfaction to have made your own mold and the mold clips! Much better than having bought it on Etsy. I took a woodworking class in high school, mostly to meet guys! But I found it so satisfying to make something by myself out of wood. How long have you been soaping?
Oh Julie, you made me giggle then, that was funny. I know, it's just so fab to make things yourself isn't it. I've actually not been soaping that long. I made my 1st loaf on 12 May 2019. But I'm a massive researcher and tester, so did a lot of research before hand and continually research and test ever since.
Thank you for uploading this. Ar the beginning I thought you'll show how you made the silicone mould as well. Would've been great, but I enjoyed your tutorial very much without that part anyway. Happy 2020!
Hi Aidan, aw that's a shame that you would have liked to see the mould, it wasn't in the video as this was a video about making the soap. If I had included the making of the mould in enough detail to be useful it would have made the video too long. If I make another one I will video it and label that video as mould making rather than soap making to make it clear what it is. Glad you like the rest of the video.
@@IDreamInSoap don't worry, I wasn't even expecting it, just thought about it. There are tutorials I've already watched :)

You made the plastic clips?? Please show how you made your silicone mold. It's very nice! Beautiful bars too!
Hi Rita, I have a video, showing how to make silicone moulds czcams.com/video/WywjQP87KRk/video.html
I think your mould is great, at least it is solid wood. And your liner is brill.
He,he thank you, it does work well and certainly insulates :-)
Dear Lisa. The first pour (green), that you are waiting to harden a bit, do you leave it uncovered while working on the 70% of the soap?
Hey Tania, sometimes I cover, sometimes not, it doesn't really matter, covering will keep in a bit of heat and help it set a little quicker, best wishes
wonderful soap and great video. can i ask how you work out how much fragrance oil you would use in cp soap? i usually use EO at 3%, but i havent tried fragrance oil as yet.
It will depend on where you're based, what the regulations are and what the IFRA limits are. You need to be careful with essential oils as many are dangerous to use at even 3%, so make sure you are checking the IFRA documents. YOu treat fragrance oils the same, depending on your country's regulations (like in the UK and Europe) the maximum is 3%, but again that's only if that much is allowed by the IFRA limits of the particular fragrance oil
@@IDreamInSoap thank you. Yes, I am in UK and use the eo calc for my soap.
Just wondered if something similar for fragrance oils ?
@@kyramarianne8242 No there isn't I'm afraid and do be careful with EO calc. It's a US site and the limits used are not always correct for what is permitted in the UK
@@IDreamInSoap thank you
Do you have a video of how you make the the silicone mold?
AW no, not at the moment. But quite a few people have asked. So I may do one.

Hi are all fragrance oils from candle shack safe in soap have you had any problems thanks
Hi Rachel, no they won't all be OK to use, you will need to check the IFRA certificates to see if they are OK (Category 9) and then check the allergens to make sure there is no Lyral, Atranol, or Chlorotranol. Hope this helps. Best wishes
@@IDreamInSoap yes very helpful thank u

I watched the video about making the mold. But I wanted to also see how you made the clips to hold up the floppy sides. 😊 How did you do that?
Ah, I had just had my brand new 3D printer delivered. I wanted to make something small, so planned these out and printed them, I was really excited as they worked brilliantly 1st time.
Ahhhh!! Now that’s a great use for a 3D printer! 😊
Are your temperatures in Farenheit or Celsius ?
When I'm making soap videos as the majority of the audience is in the US I tend to give temperatures in Fahrenheit. Sometime when I talk about CPOP I discuss both. I hope you and your family are all well :-)
I Dream In Soap Thank you. CZcams is quite international, so I think the unit is worth mentioning !
Sorry, I've got questions on every platform for you today. The beginning of the video you say you soap between 80 and 90 degrees but then later you cpop at 75 degrees. Is this both F and C?
What an excellent question. I'm in the UK so generally work in C, but with soaping most people use F. So you've just pointed out I'm being inconsistent. I think it's because I have my thermometer set for F and my oven only reads in C. So soaping temperature is between 80 and 90 F and CPOP will be 170f (or 75C). Thank you for highlighting that, I'm going to try to be aware of it in future.
@@IDreamInSoap I'm kiwi so I'm used to having no idea what Team Farenheit are doing until I google and it wasn't until the cpop comment I thought... Wait... That sounds like what I do.... Wait no way was that 80c at the start?! My brain! haha
@@tigerlilley I feel your pain, I had to google 75 C as F to answer your question, and as for using inches and oz, well that's just making things harder than they need to be :-)
I notice you mix alot of your colors together to make a different color are you limited to color you can buy
HI Cheri, I'm not limited to the colours I can buy, in fact we have some amazing suppliers here. But In the UK we have to submit every recipe for cosmetic assessment, once it's certified you can use it to sell, but that means you cannot change a thing, the colours, base oils fragrance oil, everything has to be exactly the same, no change in ratios either. So if I wanted to change one of my colours I would have to get that new recipe cosmetically assessed again (and pay and wait for the assessment report). This is why on my channel you will see some of the 'one off' soaps I make where I say I can't sell them as for a single one-off soap it's too costly to go through the assessment process, so they have to be for family and friends :-(
