- from the featurette 'Thousands of Things' Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace DVD/Web documentary.
Doug talks about the different aesthetic of the Prequels, especially Queen Amidala's (Natalie Portman) planet Naboo, which prioritized fine art and craftsmanship. Much like America in the 20/30s before mass industrialization.
My favorite ship in the Star Wars universe. So clean, it reminds me a bit of Syd Mead too.
The Naboo N-1 Starfighters remind me of the sports car used by the police force of Dubai. The Naboo spent lavishly when they discovered plasma wealth in their planet.
Question for artist types - why does he add the perspective/construction lines after the 30s mark _after_ having drawn the ship's outline?
Probably to make sure it’s correct. He freehanded the sketch to get the basic idea and shapes but the perspective lines I assume are to confirm that it’s correct.
It's just a visual indication. These are vanishing point lines to help understand this specifical foreshortened view of the ship .
