Look at America as well, unions gone, jobs gone, tax gone, no industry, about to go to civil war. See employers also need to realise they part of a social contract. Once it's gone, their relevance is gone too. Now they have a population with nothing to lose. The unions in this country are not the problem, there are no unions that function in the private sector outside the mining areas and even then they don't work well so mines are forced to price in Zama into their operations. This lady has Candice Owns type of mentality.

And you think South Africa with almost 40% unemployment is better off than U.k and U.S.A. there are companies here in South Africa that employs 100% Mozambique,Zimbabweans, Malawians and Congolese. There companies that does not even pay a single cent in tax because they bribe the officials to look the other way. Uninions are bribed to turn a blind eye.

We have a population of mostly ignorant people with next to no experience in nation building who outnumber those who have, those who have hundreds of years of leasons learnt. And the children we have running this country and those who empower them, somehow think they can tell more developed people in SA and abroad, whats what. But this is classic Dunning Kruger effect.

Even in soviet times the leaders ate the cake and sent the workers to the gulag
What is needed is a massive reboot of public works spending training and employing many people to rebuild infrastructure- generating wages and spending while getting the economy pumping WITHOUT all the stealing
This would put food on the table create jobs and a demand for goods while giving us a new infrastructure
Coupled with a sold rebuild of new schools and varsities we could train out youth for a new future

Unions are not about (1) making sure their members are productive in the workplace. (2) encouraging workers to excel at their job. (3) removing the "civil behavior" from their members. It is simply a power struggle to enrich the top union members at the expense of the employer; members and the public. We can thank unions for inefficacy, sloth and rudeness to the people!

Unions can be incredibly useful if they were to focus on their original intent to protect workers instead of politics. That is, they would have employability schools instead of political schools. In disciplinary hearings, they would represent employees who are unfairly charged instead of employees who are entitled. They would negotiate earnestly instead of showing off....
Of course, this won't work because they themselves (unions) do not want to work and depend on the free income...and much of free income is in politics😢

You are 100 percent correct. My Father is now a retired Union asbestos & insulation worker from the USA.
He was able to raise a family on one salary. A strike was the last thing that anyone wanted. It hurts the union and the companies who employ them. It was not easy working in the private sector because these companies can find scab contractors who will work for less money and benefits. The public sector unions feel that they own our institutions. Many unions are very good like fire and police but many are bad like the education sector who get raises just because they came into work. The performance just doesn’t matter because the politicians need them to keep getting elected. It is a system that needs to be reformed but not eliminated because the private sector is very corrupt and want to pay less while asking for more. They all must find a fair balance.

Worse is that ANC bosses found it beneficial for thier political agenda to have them as partners in corruption. The so-called tripartite alliance; its purpose is more political than worker welfare. Is there a tripartite alliance in Cuba or in North Korea? Nada. Not even in communist China. Yet a third world country like us has these alliances to fight the hands that feed them.

My union, SADTU, has played a significant role in destroying education in South Africa.
Their leaders are politically linked, and have, historically, always received plum posts, and other rewards, from the corrupt ANC, for their cooperation, and complicity....
Teachers, in SA today, are generally poor performers, compared to a time that I know, where most teachers were dedicated, committed, knowledgeable, and very efficient, despite all challenges and problems that we faced, es, during the apartheid days....
Teaching... The Most Noble of Profesions, is no more, in SA... It's too highly politicised... ....

That's whats so funny about the ANC's hard won "freedom" the people might have more rights on paper but are, in fact, now more enslaved than during apartheid. Knowledge = freedom, the less you have, the less "free" you are - thats why the anc destroyed education.

A few years ago the union rep walked into the staff room and told all the staff they must go on strike, they did not ask why but instead gleefully packed their bags and marched out to enjoy a day in the sun with no pay. When I asked the union rep why they were striking he told me it was in solidarity with NUMSA, a union we have absolutely no affiliation with.
Well I got paid regardless since I was at work for the day and they got nothing.

I wish shops that sell TVs and electrical supplies could run a campaign where videos such as citizen concerned could run on a loop. Hopefully the shops would not be attacked.....but it is a thought. Also, employers could encourage staff not to join a union by stating that instead of part of their pay going to a trade union the would give double the subscription paid to trade unions as part of their salaries. The staff would still be protected by the law and still be able to approach the ccma if there is a dispute which would cut out the trade unions.
