  • Gday and welcome to foord offroad
    In this video Lewis and I are replacing the clutch in his Hilux so we thought why not make a video about it
    This is basically the exact same for nearly every manual 4wd
    There will be minor differences of course but the general guide is the same
    Make sure the gearbox doesn’t fall on you and don’t drop the flywheel
    Hope this helped someone out
    Thankyou for watching

    Replaced mine following your steps almost to a tee.
    Will note for any fellas out there putting in a NPC clutch, the manual states 178nm on the flywheel bolts and 39nm of flywheel pressure plate bolts along with the new thrust bearing not needing the clip.
    Cheers fellas great tutorial 👍

    Just had my clutch done by some big brand company, got it back with massive rattle coming from my gearbox, obviously trust bearing. question. is it common practice to change trust bearing while changing clutch.......also my clutch was engaging rite on floor, so thanks for the adjustment tips.....Great video

      Thanks mate, yeah it 100% should be replaced along with the clutch especially at a professional workshop
      Clutch kits come with a new thrust bearing so I can’t see a reason not to replace it
      Unless it was a warranty job and only the clutch itself is covered

    • @foordoffroad8915

      @@foordoffroad8915 Hi mate, thanks heaps, yes that was the problem the shifter was completely out of the slot. We had to replace bush as they stuffed it. I have another issue if you could help me with please. In front of the gearbox shift housing there is a pipe on a 90 about 3/8 size that faces the passenger side of car. It looks as though it would have a hose on it or something. It has nothing attached and I can't find a picture of the same gearbox to see where it goes. I found the 2 little side breathers had nothing connected as well. The mechanic that did the clutch has left all this off as well.

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  Před 2 lety +1

      Sounds like you need a new mechanic mate, they will be the gearbox breathers only really useful if your going through deep water offroad but still they should be connected, I’d suggest getting a aftermarket breather kit and doing the front and rear diff breathers too

    Do you need to worry about bleeding any fluids if doing a straight clutch replacement? I've seen alot of things saying that it's worth draining the clutch fluid and replacing the slave cylinder. But is that necessary?

  • @billyliddy5833
    @billyliddy5833 Před 3 lety

    Thanks for showing us that. Can you expect a few smells when using low range for the first time? I had mine changed and was 4wheeling up a hill and my ute had a moderate smell that i thought was clutch smell.

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  Před 3 lety +2

      A clutch should bed in straight away unless your making huge power so shouldn’t get any smell from a Hilux
      However if it was going to then it would happen in 4low trying to supply max torque to all 4 wheels, either that or the pedal isn’t adjusted quite right and it’s holding the clutch slightly on

    Hi mate, going to do mine this week. at 4:23 where you lower the gearbox with top bolts of bell housing still attached to get access to the cables. Does that not bend or break anything at the engine side as it's still attached?

    • @foordoffroad8915
      @foordoffroad8915  Před 2 lety +1

      Nope it just leans the engine back a bit to help get the top bolts, on older cars you need to keep and eye on the fan hitting the radiator but on a Hilux there is plenty of room

    Good video fellas👍 Doing mine this morning and 'same way without a hoist'
    Question: Put a new Master into it last night (hoping that was the issue) BUT, once installed the clutch pedal just keep falling to floor with ZERO pressure? Brother thinks the thrust bearing is stuck in, but seems to coincidental that a I pulled it into shed that it stuck then and there?
    Ever had issues with bleeding new master?
    Cheers
