Hey there, friendlies! I had to replace the wick in my Feuerhand Baby Special 276 recently, and figured I'd shoot a vid of the process. I hope you find it useful.
*This is not a paid endorsement. I have no connection with Feuerhand.

Great video, I love using and restoring old lanterns. The only thing I would add is on trimming the wick.
Wicks should always be trimmed straight across with the burner. Never cut angles on the sides. The wick is not supposed to burn, only the fumes from the fuel. If you cut angles on the wick you will not get a wide flat flame and the wick will burn up much faster. You always want your flame to be wide and flat on the top. Your wicks will last much longer and your flame will be much brighter.
Thanks for the video. I’m new to these lanterns. I just bought 2 of the Feuerhand 276s , so I don’t need to change the wicks yet, but now I feel prepared
Such cool little lanterns. I love the size of them.
I set my dad's old Deitz on my fireplace mantel to display after I got it. I picked up some fuel last week, so this vid came out at the PERFECT time. Gonna check the wick and then give this old boy a light up. Pretty pumped up, can't wait for the weekend to do this.
I’d love an old Dietz from when they were still made in the US.
Really wick-ed video. Used to have a lantern around the house for power outages all the time when I was a kid.
Gotta have a good lantern around.
I got a hurricane lamp just a few months ago so this video was absolutely helpful. Now I just need to know when to buy more wick when I need it.
I just bought a bunch upfront. You can never have too much.
You made that look really easy thank you

I was like, "WHAT. I CAN DO THAT!?" and that's how i know how to use one of these silly things lol
Good how-to video for those who have the old tech. I just plug mine in and charge it.🤣
Haw! Definitely more efficient that way, but I love the old school.

Nothing can replace the real experience of a flame.
great video! I miss seeing these types of videos in my feed.... even if it's a skill I know, it's always informative to see someone elses take on it. keep em coming!
Yessir; I’ll try to keep it up.
I just purchased my first lantern for Halloween display outside. It's a vintage Romanian Metaloglobus Colobus 104E. Due to dirt on it I would never have seen the joints and figured out how to remove the wick without this brilliant video. I probably would have damaged something instead. Thanks very much!
Very cool! Gotta love vintage stuff. I was just gifted a vintage Canadian Beacon with a red globe, so I guess it's a railroad lantern, but I can't find much info on it.
I have a couple of lanterns very similar. My wick ran out of the one I use most and I wanted to make sure I know how to put a new one in and I do! Thanks . 👍☮️🌞💜
Let me know how it goes. I have to replace a wick on my other one as well.
Thank you for the video! We are in the middle of an ice storm and thought I'd use my lamp "just in case". My mom was the one who would fill it up & change the wick when necessary. She's gone now and wasn't sure if people still used them. So THANK YOU 😊
My 276 arrived today and I started messing around with it and inadvertently turned the wick key the wrong way and it fell into the fuel reservoir but thanks to your very effective video I learned how to open up the lamp and re-attach the wick so thank you, I am very grateful to you👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤠
Haw! I'm glad I could be of help. Did you order it with extra wicks?
@@RaindanceBushcraft haha, no unfortunately not foreseen, but can get some quite easily for a couple of quid. 😎🤠

It is very interesting to find out about the history of Feuerhand laterne. Amazing
Yeah. There’s a lot of info on their website. I love this kind of lantern.
@@RaindanceBushcraft I use the Petromax HK500 and the Feuerhand. If needed really light, the HK500 makes night to day
I have a couple of lanterns,so thanks for the info.
Get ‘em working!
Thanks Jes. Perfect timing.
Got a cool old lantern?
Good morning Jes
Good Morning!
Thank you so much, really helpful👍
Useful, thanks.
I’m glad you found it informative.
I don’t think many people own these anymore 😂🐸🍺🔪🔥
Such a cool light source. More people should have them.
You can't baton lamp wick with a CBK!!! 😂. Nice vid Jes
DoNt TeLl Me WhAt To Do!!!!!
Oh, hey Dauber…
Hi Jes, I have two oldies that I will be restoring, thanks for the insight.
Yes! I love it. I’m looking for a novel old one to restore as well.
The two are very different, one has a long glass globe where as the other has a short stocky globe. The age is unknown as I found them in themy parents barn after they had passed.
Hi Jes, I do have a couple these lamps great info 😎
Excellent demonstration. Is it feuer lantern?
Thank you, this helped me.
I’m glad to hear it. What kind of lantern do you have?
@@RaindanceBushcraft small stansport hurricane lantern. It works great for hanging out on the deck.
@@Mr_A_Observations can’t go wrong with that!
Great video. Thanks
Good video! Thank you.
hello, Feuerhand great flashlights, I have military versions of 175 and Atom 75
I love ALL of my oil lamps.
Nice video Jes, I always pick up some kind of tip or trick from your tutorials!
Glad to hear there's some value in 'em! Hah...
I have one or two of those and a couple of older Dietz.
I stuff the whole wick in the tank because I’m lazy lol
Great tutorial 👍🏻
First off use the handle and the top ring to pull up to remove the glass. Second it is best to trim the wick to a half moon. And the long wick will stop some of the sloshing in the tank if left long. And work just fine.
I actually don't have any of those. I must correct this.
Yeah, I love the light they give off.
Awesome. Thanks .
Interesting.
That was cool!
Ive 3 small walmart ones i bought like 20 years ago and a really nice bluegrass belknap hardware air pilot thats huge, i bought it at an estate sale, but the fuel cap is missing. Im on the hunt for a 13/16" fuel cap now, lol.
I have several different versions of this lantern both large and small
I’d like to get a couple more as well
@@RaindanceBushcraft I'm always on the lookout for more lanterns. We have several oil lamps for emergencies here at home.
Great video! I just got myself one of these! Not sure if it's the exact model as yours but looks identical.
I love it. Is yours the same colour? They make them in a few different hues.
Might be a long shot but any advice for a wick that gets gripped but then the turn key on the side just spins? Is the wick I’m using too fat or thin?
I also bought the Baby 276.. Do you know how long the Wick burns that you but in there?
You can buy a pack of like 5-inch wicks or a way longer roll. I have about 12inches in another hurricane lantern with no issues, but I know someone who tosses the whole roll into the oil tank. I don’t like to go *that* long…
How can you remove glass if it's stock???
Is it possible with these lanterns to turn the burning wick down into the fuel tank and set it on fire?
Without oxygen it wouldnt burn. I've seen em turned over while lit and after a second or two the flame goes out.
