  • My First Sewing Project! Hemming a 2 layer long, flowy dress with chiffon! Here's how you can do it too! (Would Have Cost $100!)
    Hey guys!
    I hope you are doing well!
    As I mentioned in my previous video, I am learning how to sew and am sew excited to start fixing and creating clothing! Since I am only 4'11", I have always struggled with things not fitting properly on me. This limits the type and amount of clothing I can enjoy since many pieces require me to pay extra to have them altered or wait until I visit my parents to have my dad alter the clothing for me. I have walked away from pieces of clothing that I've loved for this reason and also have numerous items in my closet that I have bought with the intention of having them fixed but have never worn them because I never got around to it!
    So naturally, the first project I wanted to try sewing was to hem a piece of clothing that was too long for me. This is the dress I wore for my engagement photoshoot. I received it 2 days before the shoot and didn't have time to get it tailored so I ended up tripping over it the entire shoot. I decided this would be the perfect first project to start my sewing journey and am so so happy with the way it turned out. Here is everything I did to hem this floor length, double layer dress myself! I hope you find these tips and tutorial helpful!

I am working on the hem this whole day and maybe tomorrow too. I hope it turns out well. Good job. A tip, or two!!! I never put a hot iron on anything that I work on. Buy a 100 percent cotton napkin. I alter like crazy, and I always use this. Less chance of a scorch. (Yes, it has happened….) Treat yourself to some Ginger scissors!! I like the 7” knife edge. Last one. Treat yourself to a 4 thread server. Simple one. Have fun!!!

    You will be better off to mark the dress all the way around before sewing.
    Most gowns are uneven, the results are always better when marked or pinned all the way around.

    • @QPlife
      @QPlife  Před 2 lety

      Yes! I apologize if I didn’t make it clear in the video but that is what I did. It is super important to mark and pin all the way around before any cuts or sewing happens 😊
