*Thoughts:* I probably owe an apology to the entire nation of Greece for them coming so incredibly low in my 'countries by average ranking' list for the 2010s, but to be honest, while their results in the last few years aren't THAT bad, their entries don't interest or excite me very much lately. Which is a shame because they were absolutely one of the BEST countries in the 2000s decade, always sending party bangers that did deservedly well and topping it off with Helena, who in my opinion is one of the divas to end all Eurovision divas. :) Is it time for a new approach? I think Greek ethnic music sounds really beautiful and we haven't heard much of it at ESC, and because Oniro Mou was underwhelming but super interesting, another song like that would be my personal wish.
Next video... well, I held off doing it for a while, but I think it's time to cover my favourite ESC country!

Thank you for finally doing my country. I am sad to say that I am not impressed by my country's efforts in the contest. I am not a fan of either the pop bangers we send or the ethnic stuff. Supergirl also is my least favourite of my country's entries. I believe the best song by far, which was also on my top 10 of the respective year is Alcohol is free. It is energetic as hell and the lyrics are just so funny (I recommend that you read the translation, although through a translation some of the meaning and idioms are lost). I also like Katerine Duska due to her voice (maybe the staging could have been better) and the two Sakis Rouvas' entries. Personally I am not a big fan of Helena Paparizou (having listened to her other songs as well) but of course I love her because she won for us. All in all I don't blame you for ranking Greece low in your top countries video. I think we can do much better.

Hello!! I do see how someone who doesn't really enjoy poppy music may not really be fond of the Greek entries. It's not usually my thing but I find they're done so well (or at least they used to) that I really enjoy them anyway. Maybe they'll start doing something different in the next few years if Stefania's 2021 song doesn't really perform well.
Alcohol is Free is actually also in my top 10 of 2013, I love the humourous lyrics and performance and the light political undertone. :)

after ethno pop's death in 2012, greece really went down (sadly). that's why you shouldn't rely on one genre so much 💕 (with a few exceptions)

    • @eurovisiongal7007
      @eurovisiongal7007  Před 3 lety +2

I think there's a modern way to do ethnopop because Eleni seemed to really make it work AND look up to date, but it's something that doesn't seem bound to succeed anymore 🤔 I think Stefania's song sounded kind of dated but I wonder what her performance was going to look like.
It actually kind of reminds me of Ireland eventually flopping, their style of ballad sadly isn't as popular as it used to be but they almost made it work in the modern era with 'Together' and then proceeded to... ditch what they might have learned from that song's success entirely.

@@eurovisiongal7007 mid-late 2000's were greece's absolute peak. most of the songs they sent in that period had similar structure (except 2006). aphrodisiac was the last song they sent with that dancy-beautiful girl gimmick (not to say aesthetic). if they sent something like my number one nowadays it would have been considered outdated. but now if you do that like eleni did, they will call you a copy. so greece went with other experiments, but sadly it doesn't work so well

My Thoughts without the songs I haven't heard before:
    20. I really like this actually. It wasn't in my qualifiers but it's so interesting melodically and the instrumental bit at the beginning is honestly one of my favourite intros to a Eurovision song
    19. I despise this. I genuinely hate this. It is my last place of 2017. It sounds so 2004 and in the worst possible way. Also her voice is incredibly annoying and the staging was horrendous choreography-wise
    16. Her voice OMGGGGG. This song is good and it REALLY comes into its own in the last 30 seconds which always just blow me away
    15. I love it so so so so so much until the rap comes in. Then I want to puke. But omg the chorus with that ethnic feel and weird time signature is EVERYTHING
    14. It's good but the drop instrumental gets really annoying after a while because there isn't any variation in it, just the same dadada-da-da repeated over and over again
    13. Meh. The instrumental is cool and the trampoline is cool but everything else is bad to mediocre
    12. WHAT?? HOW IS THIS SO LOW WTF???? This is pop, this is art, this is an AMAZING VOICE, this is me being very angry as to how in the hell San Marino came above this, this is pastel tease, this is perfection, this is impactful, ugh this is so so so good and I'm a little bit upset that it's this low in ur ranking :( Jk I'm not but consider putting it higher haha
    11. ICONICCCCC, a little cheap, but ICONICCC AND A BOP
    10. Ew. I don't get how people like this. The instrumental in the verse is very interesting but the chorus is SOOOO generic it's so bland omg, and wtf are his hand movements, slenderman tease
    9. WILL FOREVER BE MAD THAT THEY MESSED UP THE STAGING LIKE THIS. Ugh the studio version was so amazing and mysterious and GREEK so language points from me, and then they gave Miss Yianna absolutely NOTHING to work with onstage except for a silver hand that made no sense. Ugh when I saw this I KNEW it wouldn't qualify and it broke my heart :(
    5. UGH A WHOLE BOP, so incredibly danceable it's insane. Is a bit stereotypical tho, but I think they leant with that on purpose
    4. GREECE SERVING MORE BOPS, everything about this is both hilarious and amazing, an absolute bop and a halffffff
    3. Amazing. Periodt. The way in which Believe finished ABOVE this......no thoughts head empty. Ugh this feels like a Britney song in the best way, so incredibly catchy
    1. It's fine I guess but honestly to me the song is irritating and very cheap. HOWEVER Miss Helena then decided to pop off completely with Survivor, one of the best Melodifestivalen entries EVER periodt

I've honestly felt that Greece is mostly an overrated country. However, they aren't bad, some entries are even amongst my favourites in some years. Anyway, some of you might be a bit mad because of me putting some entries really low. Here's my opinion!
    20. 2019 - 1,5/10
Never liked this one. The song is painfully generic and I don't like her voice.
    19. 2011 - 3/10
The chorus wasn't great to begin with, but the rap parts are even worse. Could have been better.
    18. 2006 - 3,5/10
Too dramatic for my taste. Also, the chorus isn't good as well.
    17. 2003 - 4/10
    So bland and forgettable.
    16. 2001 - 4,5/10
I'm sorry, but I am starting to see a trend here. The chorus in this song sucks yet again. I wanted to enjoy this, but I can't.
    15. 2008 - 5,5/10
The staging was pretty good, but I'm not a fan of the song. The chorus could have been executed much better.
    14. 2017 - 5,5/10
I guess Greece went for simplicity in this one. This song is as simple as it can get. Not bad, just generic. I don't dislike it, don't really like it as well.
    13. 2005 - 6/10
This one is just average for me. I actually think that the verses are decent, but the chorus... not so much.
    12. 2002 - 6,5/10
This one has a good sound and it had potential to be a great song, but something just feels incomplete about it.
    11. 2016 - 6,5/10
I actually kind of like the chorus. Maybe, if the song structure was planned out better, this one would have done better. But that's just what I think.
    10. 2020 - 7/10
This song is decent. It has a nice hook, the melody is interesting. It's nothing more, though.
    9. 2009 - 7/10
The song isn't anything too special, but I love how over-the-top it is along with the staging.
    8. 2004 - 7/10
Sakis's first song is slightly better for me than his second one. The chorus is catchy, and his dance moves were pretty cool, but did it deserve 3rd place? Not for me.
    7. 2018 - 7,5/10
Cool ethnic track. It really failed because of the bad staging, let's be honest. Otherwise the song itself is solid.
    6. 2010 - 8/10
Another ethnic number. Fun, catchy, has some great instrumental parts.
    5. 2015 - 8/10
I enjoy this ballad. The song structure is pretty good, and her performance is powerful.
    4. 2014 - 9/10
I'm actually surprised that I enjoyed this one so much. The instrumental is pretty great, the song is catchy, and the trampoline on stage was a brilliant idea.
    3. 2007 - 9/10
The best thing Greece did in the 2000s. I love how catchy it is, the ethnic influences are great and the vocals are good!
    2. 2012 - 9,5/10
Another fun, catchy song with a great chorus. There's really nothing else to say.
    1. 2013 - 10/10
Okay, we talked about fun and catchy songs before, but it doesn't hold a candle to the sheer amount of fun that I got from listening to this song. The performance brilliantly illustrates the song! I love the slow start and the overall fast pace this one has! Plus, it's one of the most ethnic songs on this list! Might actually be my winner of 2013.
