Gosh what a week. some creativity and utter sadness.
I decided it was the perfect week to update you on what I made at the sewing weekend a few weeks ago.
wow, we were all very creative. I made:
The Be Mine top by Pattern Emporium x 2
The Pogonip top by the Friday Pattern Company
The High Cuff top by the Assembly Line x 2
S9018 by simplicity dress.
we genuinely had the best time!

I do find my hobbies are a great help for distracting me from grief.
You are so right. I haven't sewn much this week and it's definitely affecting my mental health. Grief is exhausting

Yes, our dogs truly are our best friends. It is sad that they do not live long... I always get another one straight away. Can't cope without a dog! Thinking of you.❤

Thanks for sharing your sewing weekend Cara and also the lovely pictures of Lara. It is heartbreaking when they decide to leave us, we had our lovely boy for 14years and said goodbye just over 2 years ago now. Thinking of you and sending you all hugs and best wishes. 💙🧶🌈🍓😘

Cara…I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my dog 2 years ago and still miss him so much. Then my beautiful 25 year old son was killed last summer. So life is sometimes forever changed by grief and loss and we find ourself facing a new and sudden reality…but allow yourself to feel that grief too because grief is love! We wouldnt have this deep sadness of loss if we hadn’t first experienced a beautiful love! Hugs to you!

So sorry to hear about the loss of your Lara. I also lost my Greyhound Zuca last week, and the pain is fresh. So difficult to say goodbye, but know they are pain free and that they were loved.

So sorry for your loss. I do know how it feels to loose a fur baby. We lost our Viva 9 years ago after 17 years of joy. I think of her every day.

I agree with you about the Pattern Emporium patterns, Kate and her team do a wonderful job, so many variations to each of her patterns, plus she’s here in Australia 😊. What a lovely video……I’ve just subscribed. I’m amazed at how prolific you were during your sewing retreat. Fabulous makes! I loved the Tokyo top. I have that fabric, but I still can’t decide what to make with it. My heart wept for you in regards to you losing your dog. They steal our hearts totally and give us such love.

I think many of us on here have also lost dogs. It never gets any easier but it is part of pet ownership. Like you, we are also down to one dog having lost our beautiful spaniel last year and there were plenty of tears. Either way, I am so sorry to hear that you lost Lara. Keeping busy does help and your sewn items are really lovely. I have the Be Mine pattern and plan to make it in a white linen but I want to do some decorative stitches either side of the front seam, also in white. I actually like the front seam on this pattern. Your jersey dress is stunning too, such beautiful fabric. Kate x

🫂💔🐾... your weekends like it was great fun... good to hear your cream tops are hard workers... both are beautiful... I have recently desided I need some basics in cream n black n navy... I am on my last steps of finishing my first Be Mine top in flannel... its a very cold spring here n I needed to muslin this pattern... its cream with trees n sasquash(bigfoot) people on it... it will work for home n keep my sleeves out of the dishwater... lol... hope your month will be looking up... blessings...

I’m so sorry Cara for your loss - we only get them for such a short time in our lives in the big scheme of things, I wish they lived much longer! But boy do they make an impact on us and our lives in the time we are blessed to have them! And such a huge hole when we have to let them go. Sending hugs to you and your family.

I am so sorry for your loss of the lovely Lara. I know exactly how painful this is, having lost our beautiful Belle just a few months ago. I am so grateful for the memories we have stored up over the years, as I am sure you have, too. They never really leave us, they are always tucked away in our heads and hearts. Your beautiful montage made me cry, but what a wonderful long life Lara had and she was obviously so very loved.
Wow, you were so prolific over the weekend retreat, with some lovely garments to show us. I especially liked the final make you showed us, the Simplicity dress. That is stunning.

I do understand completely what you are going through and although it may be a cliche it is true nevertheless that the heartbreak is the price we must pay for love.Would we do it again ,of course we would,nothing compares to sharing the joys of life with a true and faithful companion. So sorry to hear about Lara 💜. It’s the most difficult thing, I think I cry for a year every day, silly I know but they are our fur babies. I lost my whippy boy 2 years ago with no warning he was only 5 and still have one whippy girl which is so hard as they do miss each other. Even today hearing your news I cried as I miss him dearly and look at photos every day. On a happier note your retreat sounded great, how did you sleep with all that sewing you achieved.

Dear Cara so so sorry for the loss of beautiful Lara. We build such a strong bond with our dogs and they have such short lives. I try to interact with intense love and spend as much quality time as I can with mine. We know all along that the time to let them go will come. You are such a gentle and positive person and I am sure Lara loved you so much. She had a great life with you I am sure. Your other dog will be missing her so much too. Hold her tight so she can feel your love. But how privileged we are to have the love of a dog, how lucky we are to be able to live side by side and have their trust....It is the best. I have a Jack Russel named Poppy... She'll be 17 years old in May... She's in good health but slowing down these days... It too will be awful when the time comes... And when it does, I can imagine she'll have Lara as good company along with her previous sister and other friends 🐕🐕 xx
