Question to the Age of Noob community.
As you know, there are both AoE2 and AoE4 viewers amongst us. I mentioned a while back that I am committed to covering both games, and this has not changed. That said, I want to ideally want to make it worth your time to watch videos regardless of which game is covered. One way that I am experimenting with now is upping the quality again - especially with the added custom visuals and a civilization-specific story covered at the end. This comes at a significant time and money cost for me.
Hence, are these improvements enough to keep you engaged on a game you normally don't consume content for? If the answer is yes, then it may be worthwhile investing more time per video to keep everyone engaged. If not, then getting videos out quicker might serve our split audience better. (i.e. viewers would skip the video of the game you're not interested).
Again, it would be fantastic if I could create content engaging enough for viewers to watch the videos regardless of which game they play. It's proving to be tougher than expected, so your input is appreciated.

I have loved these games alot, and at the moment I am not really that engaged in either of the two games. But your videos are basically the only ones that keep me fully engaged even with the less interest to actually play the games, which I would take as a big positive and worth on the investment you put into these gorgous videos with the great custom visuals and UI and the efficient yet calm style of video. Keep up the current version of your work! Its great!

The production value on this video is crazy! Even Spirit of the Law videos don't look as good as this, and he's probably highest effort AoE 2 content creator afaik (apart from maybe Among the Hidden, but his channel hasn't been active for a long time). 😮
Among the Hidden is easily the GOAT of edited AOE content. It's a shame he made his work private on his channel. His Villager Takes a Photo Every Day is hands down my favorite AoE content of all time.
These kinds of videos with smooth editing is peak aesthetics, like a great movie

Absolutely top notch content, holy moly. I liked the intro but the ending didn't really do anything for me and I don't think many people will stick around that long if they're not interested in AoE2 content already. If YT still enforces the minimum 10 minutes for ads to play, an alternative would be to expand the Bad Matchups section with specific civs or perhaps even suggest competitive games/players for people interested in the civ to watch. Either way, great stuff

What? Ending was amazing! the soundtrack and images are awsome. Also we learnt a little fact about how Spaniards destroyed the Tenochtitlan and it's inhabitants it is always interesting for me to learn real historical facts about the factions in AoE 2

Great production on the video mate. One criticism I do think you really underrate them for TGs especially, faster military production especially when it comes to TGs is great for getting the archer numbers, and also coupling that with the eagle access in dark age. Aztecs are a very common and upper end TG flank. Even when it comes to water/hybrid maps they can have a role to play with that military bonus and relatively solid eco behind it. Great to see the videos going though. Hope it picks up.

I like to watch SOTL faction reviews before playing new factions, but they are old and outdated, and not this high quality.
The production level here is fantastic and I very much prefer how you structured this one.
There are a lot of factions to do, but if you can manage this series will be must-watch content for AoE2.

This man at arms reskin looks cool! 🙌🏻 I hope every civ will get proper reskins for generic units according to architecture set. But it would even better if they put civs logo shields or marks into the units appearance.
If it wasn't a lot of work, I'd agree. The issue is that a paid DLC could be made "free" via mods, so devs can't monetize their work on skins.
I suppose we'll have to wait to eventually get coverage of most civs via events :D Lots of their event skins look great

How do you make the terrain look so pretty? I have all my settings maxed. Is this a mod? which one?
Age of Empires + Skyrim music...can it get any better?
I'm only a semi-noob (1000-1100 elo), but I main Aztecs when I don't click random & my goal is to pretty much always go late game. Vs Archer Civs I can make Atlatl Skirms, vs Infantry civs I can make Elite Jaguar Warriors with Garland Wars & vs Cav Civs I'll have Garland War Pikeman & I'll have 85 HP Monks that hard counter Paladins. Faith & that other expensive upgrade I don't get, but every other upgrade for me is worth it pretty much just for the 5 HP. A high relic count & like 20 Monks is what I try to get to in the late game, as I push through with Garland War Champions/Pikes & Trebs I'll also spam convert any of my opponent's buildings that I can.
I know at higher elo's I'll get punished as I'm trying to get there, but I'm happy having fun at the elo I'm at, & I find the Aztecs late-game amazing with mass Monks. When I try to do any Eagle aggression, my opponent's just make Long Swords in Castle which can 1v1 like 3 Eagle Warriors in a row or something like that & cost less gold, so I find Eagles quite weak personally.

Currently, I main Romans on every map sans Water/Hybrid because they're the Aztecs that I've longed to have since the Conquerors. I know the Aztecs were really, really strong back then, due to them having Halberdiers and their economic bonuses weren't nerfed at this time, as I did play them in Team Games on the original expansion pack and they were so much fun to play.
Sadly, my competitive side came to the conclusion that Aztecs are pathetically weak in almost every scenario sans 1v1s where they rely on player diff to win, which cements them as a troll pick in my eyes nowadays, speaking as a lower elo player at 800 elo.

Simply the best Age of Empires civilization guide I've ever seen. The fact Jaguars (coolest Aztec unit) are almost never seen is a prime example of very poor game design in AoE2
Thanks! It's indeed a bummer that we often don't get to see most Unique Units in action; and it's likely too late to change this now without significantly changing game balance.
Maybe you could make them viable by doing it like it's now the case for Romans, i.e. making Jaguars an unique upgrade to a generic unit line. That ofc means that you have to give Aztecs a new 2nd UU for the Castle ^^

Tho... is that AI-Art? because that's a bit questionable tbh. Not just for copyright and moral reasons but also just misleading imagery. Better either do a Machinima(with those sweet event/mod units) or ask actual artists, if they make art about the fall of tenochticlan, they for shure played aoe2 and enjoy being in a video.

100%. Admittedly, I didn't know about this a few weeks ago - I actually found out about the whole debacle surrounding AI art shortly after making the video. I did a quick search and found a few solutions that have sourced their trainings with public domain/copyright free images (which is great news, but their outputs are of course less stellar than the likes of, say, Midjourney), so I will pivot to those instead until the lawsuits/usage rights become much clearer down the line. To be frank, it takes a ridiculous amount of time to do that ending sequence that I may just drop the whole thing together for future reviews. We'll see. :)

You didnt test jaguars vs Samurai or teutonic knights right?
At least vs samurai I know, that they are pretty equal in the matchup vs each other, if you have full upgrades, because samurai die in 3 Hits and Jaguars in 4. Japanese attack 33% faster, so its basically random, who wins the 1vs1. So they are not really beaten by Samurai. At least not, if you have full upgrades. Vs Teutonic knights i didnt test it, but I can actually imagine, that jaguars are cost effective vs them.

Samurais barely survive as you mentioned - but after trying 10+ times, it seems like they always get the first attack (and therefore almost always edge out with barely any HP left). Short term small engagements are fine, but still not good to trade long term.
The Tuetonic Knights matchup was a comfortable win for the Teutonic Knights.

these videos are good but i suspect that it will take some time before your potential audience has found you. it took spirit of the law years of civ reviews and deep dives.
i'm just saying this because i see some mid sized youtubers try something new-ish and when their first attempt gets somewhat less views they instantly give up on it.

@@FlymanMS Actually no tbh. I prefer Italians. Nice having an anti anti-archer archer as well as an anti anti-infantry infantry. 😁 Quite flexible too. Also their Bombards are cheaper than Trebuchets! 😃
