Such a revelation - i didn't think much of this as a teenager back in the day, but watching it now... The difference in attitude is so vast compared to any of today's shows. Now there's this constant palpable tension of even having two seconds of dead air and most of today's presenters are so petrified of loosing your attention that they practically shout down the camera at you, as if to say 'like me, like me, like me!!!!'... 'must be a hit show, must be a hit show'. You feel so passive and the instinct is to recoil. But these guys were so chill, they made the viewer 'come to them'. They weren't so desperate, ultimately. Also much funnier than i remember. I miss the nineties.
Sonny Pike retired at age 18 without ever playing professionally. This show on the other hand was brilliant, I used to laugh myself silly at it while watching on a black and white TV while my parents were asleep as it was on late, only to burst out laughing and get a bollocking from dad for waking him up!.
@@webm8 I pray that all the videos on youtube about increased crime rate due to unchecked immigration and a police force that arrests people for what they post online are exaggerating. If they're true and Europe is being ruined because of fears of offending people that would be the saddest way for the West to fall. We certainly have similar problems here in the States.
Time hasn't been kind on it. Skinner was the only one with relevant talent. The only thing in my opinion that still seems good is the 'Phoenix From The Flames' segment - particularly in the World Cup '98 series; some great writing there.
Why have people given this a thumbs-up without knowing if it's true or not? Paul had nothing to do with the show until Fantasy World Cup in 1998, where he was tasked with watching a load of old football to find some funny bits. He also appeared in a few sketches. Andy Jacobs was The Series Producer for every episode bar the ones in 2004. They both worked on the show in 2004 in a very minor capacity.
As a kid I was allowed to stay up late on Friday nights to watch Fantasy Football League. Good times.
LMAO the Julie Goodyear blimp! 😬
i doubt the would be allowed to make it now. yeah good memories hey? takes you right back

so true, it was like watching student mates on the sofa yapping away. great show and great times
I don't remember Baddiel and Skinner's sofa being as small as that. Ah, Sue Tully. a much underappreciated bit of alright.
Arrr the good old days.. when me and my mates where 11-12 used to stay up and watch this. 👍👍
defo great times and a real laugh
I was not expecting them to be in drag.....

yep, prob couldnt do the jokes now which they did back then
90’s had great football
Also, they're not laughing at their own jokes. So refreshing.

When football had a sense of humour.
and you could joke without someone being "offended"

The PL back in the 90’s was fantastic, before the clubs became extensions of foreign billionaires massive egos.
Missing the boat all tv stations. Should come back these two loved them in the day when it was world cup or the euros.
yep all of us of a certain age would love to see it come back
It did but I’ve not watched a single episode, they’ve copied pretty much everything but it’s not the same without the original lads
Loved the show
yes it was lots of fun to watch. not sure they could get away with it today
Good old days when bbc2 actually had something worth watching, compared to the shite that comes on their now
yep, totally agree
Loved the had some great laughs over the years
everything was better back then lol
@@webm8 100 % mate 👌
Bring it back!
would it be as good now? some of the jokes were pretty risky even then - which made it great
It would never happen now to many snowflakes in the world, pity it was a great show 👍
Next week's guests are Graeme Souness and Sarah Cook pmsl.
Having adored this show in the 90s. It was absolute crap 🤔😂😂

A segment based on Julie Goodyear and the Goodyear blimp. so utterly stupid its piss funny
thats what made the show so good
Paul hawsbee from talksport wrote this
Both hawksbee & Jacobs were writers on the show. Hawksbee was also a writer on harry hills tv burb

The stoke city supporters
I was living abroad in the 1990s. Was this ever funny? It's almost unwatchable in the 2020s
