- Putting a Tacoma on 35 inch tires... On some vehicles that's no big deal, but on Tacomas (or 4Runners, or even Tundras) there are some things you'll need to do, and some things to consider. I'll walk you through my setup specifically where I'm running a true 35" tire on my Tacoma, give you some lessons learned, a few tips, and some general knowledge that should help you out if you're just getting started on this journey.
I'm not responsible for any damages caused by any modifications to your vehicle. Please have the work professionally done by a reputable off-road shop.

Im super glad u made this video it answered all mt questions regarding stuffing big ol' ties on a Tacoma, but is definitely be interested in a more in depth video in case there was something I missed. Cheers bud, keep up the good work :)
I have a 2018 Taco with Fox DSC. Change your front coils to 650 lb/in (stock for Fox is 600 lb/in). It helped keep my front tires from rubbing at full lock (truck didn't have as much body roll). You need stiffer springs for Fat Tacos. Really enjoy your videography and Tacoma shots. Love the wrap. Keep up the good work!
I'm going through the same issue running 35's on my Tacoma with a 3" Kings lift. I made a video telling about it as well. I will be doing a relocation bracket soon. Great video and info 👍. Keep it up
Awesome video! thank you for all you do! Very inspirational. my next vehicle might be a Tacoma definitely could be doing some off-roading and camping so every bit helps 👍
great shots of tires turned and how they clear, options for trimming/relocation, really nice work here, thank you!
awesome video, Mike - can't wait to see the video on the iKamper prototype! Always psyched to see your content, look forward to your next meet-up in CO.
Step 1: put big tires on truck
Step 2: pray
Surago So true 😂
Haven't had any problems.
Nice videos. I'm slowly setting up my truck for truck camping / off road / BOV. Daily driver though. 13 Chevy 2500hd 4x4. Tow alot so I'm not going real high. Learning alot through your channel. Keep up the good work.
Excellent video.. tyvm! I have a set of SCS Ray10s waiting to go on my taco.. just not committed to 33 or 35 yet. I didn't think I would have to re-gear for 33s, but if I do, I might as well just go all in for 35s. Looking forward to your video about the new wrap!
Absolutely would love more details really want that wrap 🤤
Super high quality camera work! Looks awesome my man
Thanks Mike, love the Taco videos. Keep them coming!
Dig all the videos man.
Would love to see a deeper dive video on the 35s, especially how they differ from your previous set up.
I would also love to see a couple videos on the Forster, such as.. how you out fit it with gear (being not your main ride), and any other great info you can throw our way!
Keep it up brother, can’t tell you how much better I feel in my mind set from dudes like you and Mike from field craft.
P.s. would love to see y’all do more work together.
Thanks for the hard work
Wow this is the absolute best video for how to fit 35s thanks.
Mike, that was a very helpful video. Well done, and thank you!
One of the nicest Tacomas our there! Always enjoy your content. I have 5.29s going in my rig as well. I went with Yukons just for ease of availability up were I live. After we slap those in I am ready for 35s when ever, I want to run my 33s till they are wore out first and then decide.
Good call!
Also really like to have ideas of cost. Most people have connections but really helps to know general costs of components (retail is fine) so people have an idea. I would agree gearing is essential with this setup but most have no idea how expensive it can be and the vid is setup to explain what it takes to run 35”s the correct way. No need to listen to the “all you need is to be rich” comments, since there are other options but really like to know ballpark to do thing right. Thanks again enjoy the delivery/method of your video
Yes we want detailed longer version of it :)
Love your setup man. Hope to get my tundra looking half thar nice.
Always good information to be found on this channel...
first time look at, wrap absolutely great
Love all your reviews. Keep them coming, also can you show what you do to keep your gear secure and your security ie locking mechanisms for you trax and things on bed rails. Thanks brother
Running 35 Maxxis RZR MT’s on my 09 dbl cab Tacoma. Kings, Fox, total chaos uppers/lowers, total chaos leaf under, and airbags… that’s just some of what needed to be done to successfully run 35’s like it was meant to be that way. Let’s not forget C4 fitment kits, cab relocation…. Etc…. Lots of work, and cash, but bulletproof… 5 years late, good video.
I still like my 4.56's (Dana 60's) on my Power Wagon. I do like to see trucks on the trail and not just Jeeps (yes I have an old one). Great looking Taco BTW.
Cool video! Always enjoy the truck stuff!!
Convinced that I should just save for another year, get rid of my camburg uca, king 2.5's bfg 33's and just do a SAS on my 16 TRD OR 4X4 LB
That's the only way I'm going to get the true performance I'm looking for out of my Tacoma
Appreciate the videos as well as your input!
Awesome vid, badass truck!
All your comments? Well then thanks for putting out useful stuff! Im actually here for my fj
All my questions have been answered!!!! Thank you!!!!
I'm running the same tires. About 30,000mi of mixed use and still look almost brand new.
6 months ago we wanted more details, we still want all the juicy details man! :)
Nice video. Thanks fort the info!!
Nice one. Good looking rig.
Mike the wrap is ok but love the old colors quicksand but have to admit still looks great but love your vids bro keep them going
Great Video. Sorry if I missed it, did you recalibrate your speedo? Wondering how accurate your miles per gallon is.
Hey man! Been watching your videos for a while and would love to see a more in depth review of your truck - it’s completely different now than your original walk around, which was great! If you see this comment, I’m curious to know how the rest of the stock components are doing on the truck after driving it lifted for a little while now? Such as the differential, cv’s, bearings, any odds and ends leaking or wearing noticeably quicker etc.? Thanks for the great content and cool vids.
Thanks for the information really helped I just got some 20 x 9 with 35” tires
I bet that looks real cool parked at the mall.
Thanks for the great and informative video. Would love to know more about the fitment issues you have had. Under flex and at angle do you rub to the point of limiting capability?
I have a 2006 Taco, ext.cab,TRD,4x4.. I just purchased a 4" RC suspension lift kit, 3" body lift, DV8 front bumper with winch mount, rear Fab Four Bumper with spare tire mount, 10,000lb. Warn Evo, 35-12.5-17 BFGoodrich K02's, on 17" Mickey Thompson Classic rims. I have my front room full of all this stuff, just waiting for the install to begin.
I would like the more detailed version also! Thanks!
Love your channel dude. Can't wait to get a set up like yours! Love outdoors, hardcore 4x4ing and camping!
How far do you have to commute? I'm in conifer and have about an hour commute to my job. Totally worth it to live in the Colorado mountains!
But yeah I get about 3 trips to and from work in my 4runner before I need to fill up again.
great video. Making me say Hmmmmmm about a lift kit on my 2018 Titan. Is it worth it??
Nice build, you easily have around 15K in upgrades and Mods! Hope I can start building mine! Looking into a bumper for my next mod
Good video. Just enough enough info for someone to have an idea of what it takes to go with 33"-35" tires, the right way.
I have a 2010 with 2.5"-3" of lift. I'm running 33" x 11.5" M/T Baja MTZs on 16 x 8 M/T Classic III w/ 4.5" BS & 1.25" spacers. I needed the spacers to not rub the UCA and the frame on the front. I removed half of the body mount behind the tire to not rub there. Also had to beat the shit out the back side of the wheel well to get clearance. The only time I rub is at full turn and full tuck and that rubs the back side of the wheel well. The rest of the set-up is OME Heavy Duty Coils/Shocks, Light Racing UCA's, OME Dakar Leafs, Bilstein 5100s. I built my own Front and Rear bumpers and they're heavy. I'm currently in the process of building an Overland Trailer and also going to be making my version of the Prinsu roof rack next. Instead of the tent rack on the back I'd prefer to have it on a trailer so I can set up camp and leave it there while I go explore. I carry kayaks on a rack on the truck.
JMH79 I just bought the billsteins with the heavy ome front coils, got pro comp add a leaf and billsteins for the back. How do you like the setup?
@@jimfox3336 I love it. It's a little stiff but that how I needed it with all the equipment I have. IMO it's the best set-up you can put on a Tacoma that doesn't completely break the bank. In the future I really want to 4 Link the rear, and go with solid axle front with some 37-39" tires.
thanks for sharing Mike!
Enjoyed your video, thanks!
Those Wheels are 9” wide -12 offset 4.53 backspace if anyone is wondering.
They will not clear some aftermarket UCA with 35” tires (JBA for example). A spacer would be required.
I like the wrap lm intrested in doing this to my car.😎👍
How are your brakes? Maybe you’ve already said and I missed it. Didn’t know if you upgraded those too with more mass especially up and down in the mountains.
Can you do a video how to seal the tacoma truck bed to prevent water and FSR dust from getting inside?
Thanks for the video. Reminded me why I stay with stock tires and suspension...the 15 mpg is a killer. All stock I average 20 mpg, and I like it as my daily driver.
Then you'd probably get around 18mpg with this exact truck with your driving. Still a pretty excellent daily - though driving a car is great, haha.
@@LastLineOfDefense I do baby the little pedal. I am trying to squeeze out what I can, so I can get out the the forest roads on my days off. Thanks for all the videos man, they are great.
Cost for the regearing? I saw your truck at Overland Expo West. Looks great!
Great taco Mike , thank you very much !
Hey Mike I’ve been looking and haven’t seen anything as of yet on the smaller ikamper. Can you give any insight on the release date.
Dude , i love your truck and I really like the thoughtfulness put in to it all around. I live in Florida......Not a hill as far as i can see. I have sand...deep sand and dunes. We have trails but not ROCK trails ya know..I have a 2017 trd offroad with a little 2'' lift. How far could i follow you in this video, hahaha. Probably not too far , huh.. Are there other ways around some of the obstacles you guys were going thru? I have some friends in Colorado and would love to go out there with my truck. Its so funny...all we ever say is "if i only had another $5000 i could do this !!" Even if I cant get out there, im having fun watching ya'll do it, thanks for that.
Depends on the trail, but a lot of them have bypasses you can take to make it much easier. This trail we hit the hardest parts, but a less capable vehicle still could have gone everywhere we did by skipping them.
What advice for a noob wanting to get into what you do can you give me . Buying vehicle and so on ? Thank you for what you do takes out the guess work and helps a lot with enjoying like outdoors .
Man those 35 inch falken wildpeaks look amazing on mike’s tacoma
Im a jeep guy so i dont know if you have solid axles and if you do truss and sleeve them for extra support. I snapped mine when i went to 37s. Also adding a washer on steer stops helps on rubbing on full turn. And a longer bump stops when coils are fully compressed. Nice rig by the way and totally miss colorado if im lucky enough with divorce id visit salida for fishing and white water.
Great video Mike! If you could do it all over again would you go with 34's or skinny 33's?
I’d really be interested in learning more about that skinny spare you have hidden under there!
Yes more details!
I was going to ask what you did for gears, now don't need to. Did you correct your speedo from stock to 33s to 35s? I kept it reasonably light, went with a lighter weight wheel that I liked along with load range C 33s, and take the bed rack and tent off whenever not in use. 62 mile round trip daily on I-25... I'm averaging 19.5 mpg in summer and 17.5 in winter stock 3.90 gears. Any idea how much over stock the CBI front bumper and skids added over stock?
As always keep killing it Mike!
Thanks for all your videos I do find them informed, so with that being said while I like my lift stage 3 icon ,is there any way to get a little more lift out of it ,I've gone up a on the front threads on my coil overs 1.5 showing ,can I go more without hurting anything ?
Saw video the other day guy had to use sledge hammer pounding on the weld spots to get 35s to fit so wouldnt rub what people will do to get wheels to fit amazing..
How much does it cost to your truck re-geared also I think I might have seen you I am building the porches dealership in englewood I have a 2016 Tacoma off road I just have a leveling kit on it with 285-75-r16. Dig your videos!
Make a video on the wrap!!
I love that front bumper
Excellent info bro..
Where did you get the wrap done and how mu h does it cost? I have a customized design in mind
Curious as to if you’ve talked about your aftermarket tail lights. Would like to get mine black like that
👍👍 Good video. Any problems with it?
Hey Mike I really appreciate the video! If you could help me out that would be awesome! I just got 33s on my 17’ TRDOR with icon tubular delta joint UCAs and 2.5 icon reservoirs I did a cmc and I’m still getting slight rub on full compression. Im going in to get a new alignment done to hopefully help with caster but my question is what do you recommend for your alignment specs? Specifically caster? Im currently at about 3.5 and was thinking about going between 4 and 4.5 + caster. Any thoughts?
So i have a stock OF.... suspension travel is the same, can I go 35 before my lift? Or am I simplifying this.
I'm a ram owner. And also love yota
Hey man. Question for you. I have a 16 Off road as well with the same headlights. When you have your turn signal on, and you are in the turn, do the signals immediately go off when you are slightly coming out of it. Mine do that, and I’ve wanted to decrease the sensitivity. What would be involved about doing that?
How do you take care of the odometer and speedometer issue when getting bigger tires?? That’s really my biggest concern with dealing with the dealer servicing and all that how do you keep the odometer correct??
Mike, great video. My question: what do you have to add/change to keep your speedometer and tachometer correct? Does the addition of new gears correct that issue? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Josh Sampson if you've put bigger tires than stock, regearing often helps or completely resolves that issue :) you'd probably have to find a chart online for your specific vehicle or ask a pro what's best for you.
What if I lift my Tacoma 6inches, can I run 35's with maybe a slight rub at full turn? or will I need to still do the body mount chopped back?
How have the factory fix coils been for you any problems and or would you prefer any upgrades to that or the ones in the back if I wanted a camper and stuff in the back?
Who did the install of the relocation brackets? Great looking rig!
I see you are running with no stab bar. I'm going to be removing mine as well. I'm hoping it won't be too bad with body roll.
I have 33s on 6112/5160s with a hvy OME leaf pack and OME UCAs with full Cali under armor, a deck, and have no power issues with Tacoma (do have OTT) I have a Leer cap and rear CBI bumper with tire carrier coming. Will see how it runs then.
What do you think about 35 or 37s on the v8 tundra. Should the gears be changed? It cane from dealer lifted and 4L seemed really good this weekend. I wanna go to 37 because of the 20" rim. I aired down to 20 psi but scared to go lower unless switching to 37s or changing rims but then that's more $$$ and I actually like the rims design
Love the truck man but I gotta ask.. is that a butanere you got on your flannel?
What happened to X-cover ? I like the wrap
Thanks
5.29s are definitely the way to go on 3rd gen. I have 33s and 5.29 seem perfect. I can finally use 6th gear and stay at around 2400 rpm going 70. I used to be at 3400 rpm at 70 if there was a slight incline because the truck would shift down from 5th to 4th. 6th used to only happen going downhill.
Where did you get your front bumper and how much?
What bumper are you running in this video? I know it’s a year old but I like that you mentioned it was a light bumper. Thanks in advance.
Mike, your truck looks dope with the wrap. If you were going to ditch the best Toyota color for something this would be it. Black Multicam looks great. How bad did your MPG suffer from the 35s and what is braking like. I run 285/70/17s on my Taco after deciding not to go any bigger, i was just curious what made you go so big.
I am wondering if using the same amount of lift (2,5 inches) with a long travel front upper and lower arms (such as from Total Chaos) would mitigate all clearance issues without the need of the reallocation. I was considering this solution to my Hilux, which is pretty much nearly the same as Tacoma. Any experience with that?
Are you able to run Chains on the front? Do they clear? Or would it be better to run cables due to the clearance with the UCA? Great video
We want an update on the truck reliability did you flash it is it worth it is it a true yota!?!?
I got a long bed, in your opinion, would 33s still be ok if I wanna overland around Moab and that type of rocky terrain trails? Also how much lift would you suggest?
What is the biggest wild peak you can put on a taco straight off the lot without rubbing?
Mike, please I am trying to lift and put new tires on my stock rims. I would like a new video about that.
I ran 33s on my stock sr5 wheels but rubbed on the UCAs pretty bad at 75% turn.
Do you need to change the gear differential and anything you need to do to the engine?
Hi..... What's about the speedometer it change or speed gage is change or you need to adjusted thanks
Do you have a diff shop you recommend? I'm down in the springs and looking to go 4.88's here soon and i don't know anybody personally with diff shop experience. Don't want to rely completely on google reviews.
All this stuff is stressful lmao.. just bought a 18 Tacoma OR
Icon coils and UCA’s in the front, fox 2.0 in the rear (no idea on the leafs yet, truck is being shipped)
Toyo open country 285/75/16 on stock rims
Hoping to find it all delivered with nothing needed to be done.. we will see
any update on the stock rim and the 285/75/16?
That's a nice setup.
But what's the most offset you can do without rubbing
