I actually liked hearing the speeches without applause after every sentence.
It was jarring to hear sentences like "person, woman, man, camera, TV" or actions like sipping water from glass followed by applause from mindless idiots.
At least N.K. ones had excuse of tableau "cheer or else" and guns pointed at them.
Every show is better without applauses for me now, Colbert, J Oliver, etc.
For real. They should eliminate audiences for debates, too. It just becomes a performance and a show.
We shouldn't let candidates lean on applause lines, we should let their ideas stand on their own merit--without booing/cheering.
I'm from the UK and when I watch American TV its so annoying when you guys clap every minute. Just let the person talk
I agree. We were able to focus on the content. Actually, and I know this is much less important, but I also have enjoyed the late night talk shows in a more intimate setting.

I told my wife the other day, "I feel so much shame, about the state of our country", after the last 4 nights I have hope again, I hope we all vote and realize how much it matters.

What about the U.S. are you ashamed of? Black , brown, and Asian unemployment was the lowest it's been in 4 decades. Two hundred million jobs brought back to America. Prison reform was passed. Opportunity zones in the urban areas have been established. Troops were pulled out of countries that no longer needed our help. The military was rebuilt and re-equipped, Trade agreements were made that didn't require the Americans to pay unreasonable high tax and actually helped eliminate the trade deficite. We pulled out of NAFTA which took billions of American dollars per year while other members didn't pay even pay a dime. We built the wall on the Southern border that stopped the flow of drugs, human trafficking and child trafficking for sexual purposes. The economy reached the best record we've every had. The cost of prescription drugs has gone down-- while Canada paid 50 cents per dose American citizens were paying $3.00 per dose. The cost of insulin went down from $1500 every six weeks to a fraction of that cost. Why is all this shameful?

11:44 has been my favorite moment in this election cycle, next to Joe's "those who have lost the most" comments. Stephen's genuine "YES!" reaction just felt so powerful. Like, i wanted to scream at the TV with him "YES! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YES! END THIS!" hahaha, I got me a case of the hopes again.

Damn it, Colbert, I had a lump in my throat through much of Biden's speech, but I thought, now it's been a few hours, that I'd managed to return to my cynical, non-sappy self. Then... you had to go and say that. :)

It touched my heart too. Actually, the last part of this monologue did, starting from 12:06. Colbert explained in a simple way why Trump couldn't overcome the challenges of being a president. It's because he never overcame any challenges in his life. That's an objective and reasonable explanation. Right to the point without attacking the many flaws of Trump's character. And his explanation about Biden's many gaffes is only touching because you can feel it has truth in it.

1) I am absolutely voting this year, just as I have in the past several presidential and primary elections.
2) A lot of people (myself included) are disenfranchised by the state of modern politics. The two party system has crept so far to the right that Joe Biden is effectively a republican candidate, but is running as a democrat because he's not a fascist.
3) People who can not vote for either candidate are being told that voting their heart or voting third party is a throw away vote. Weighted voting is what this country needs to we aren't pressured into another "lesser of two evils" situation again.

Yes, that was a lovely speech by Stephen. It is wonderful to be FOR someone. I'm genuinely inspired by Kamala Harris, and after learning much more about Joe Biden's story, I'm downright enthusiastic. My parents met at a Young Republicans meeting so my political life has been an interesting journey.

He’s made mistakes in the past but has the experience to actually do something about Covid instead of pretending its not real. Trump also commonly mispronounces and forgets things too so do not act like he’s innocent of gaffes either.
The final words were powerful. We need a President who acknowledges his own humanity, his own limits, and the humanity of others, not a President who thinks he's all-powerful and can get just snap his fingers and bend everything to his will. THAT kind of president will build the team we need to get actual work done.

However, that compassion might not reach the rest of his family. (But for some reason I believe Jared and Ivanka, and his sons will get away with their crimes too, by the close association.)

Completely agree. Think back to when Obama was first running and elected. I feel like that mentality was applied to him. Then, when things didn't go exactly as people had hoped, they complained about it...not enough to vote him out in 2012, but there still was a level of disappointment. That's alot for any one person to take responsibility for. There's a level of laziness that wants to shove off the individual's responsibility to someone else.

It has passion, wisdom, hopes, and plea to Americans to vote for the better leader. The usual firecracker Colbert is funny, especially when he talks about politics, which is clearly where his passions lay. But the calmer and somber Colbert is a rare gem👍

I love your point, though instead of Americans being at fault, I blame the voting system for creating a polarizing two-party system that blocks people from getting the truthful information they need (because truth does not help parties win votes (or corporations win money, for that matter), as demonstrated by Trump), and wastes votes in such a way that only a small proportion of voters (the "swing voters") matter

I love those moments when Stephen is Stephen. I remember his chat with Jon Stewart when he told Jon that Joe Biden handed him his show during his first interview when he went off script and Stephen just let him talk. It showed so much about both of them.
