    Matt, over here you can rent "storage pods" that are basically 20 ft. containers. The retrieval truck has a 4 post jacking system for the container and the chassis backs in. Downside are neighbours with containers on their drives, some for many years ;) I try to follow the "I haven't touched it for a year so in the bin" methodology... Limited success ;)

    Ba ha! This is the kind of stuff I do. I can honestly say of all the years I've had a 4wd & winch (actually the same winch on a few 4wd's now) I have used my winch to do more things like this, shift huge rocks etc etc than I have to recover my 4wd. The winch on my trailer is rated much more than my 4wd one because I snig all sorts onto the trailer, more than just cars 🤣I'm so glad I'm not the only one who uses his winches, blocks of wood, logs, a ton of snatch blocks or whatever to shift things. Great Stuff!!👍👍

    Examine how quick-attach commercial container mobility wheel kits lock into the corner fittings next time you move one. Then check out quick-attach jack point fittings too as either can be torch cut and welded in proper 4x4 gearhead fashion. I use a self-built big truck suspension air bag jack which easily raises one end of a forty-footer then toss scrap rims beneath (my favorite cribbing) and or log sections or 6x6 wooden chocks (drilled for rope pulls aircraft style and soaked in waste oil for preservation. I jacked and rolled (using horizontal pipe sections rolling on railroad ties I bought to support the ends of the placed container) to hand winch all my containers to final position while working solo. I'm an old cripple so anyone who isn't should have it easy. There are all sorts of container tricks.

    So what I have done over here in the states is attached a hitch reciever to the front of my truck. This allows you to hook the truck up to the trailer from the front and do a straight line or double line straight pull. Safer, faster, easier. In this case you could use the trailer jack or some blocks so the trucks front suspension wouldn't have to take the weight of the container. Once loaded chock the trailer tires so it doesn't move, turn the truck around and reattach then go where ever you heart desires. I got put into a position like this once and never wanted to be put there again.

    get shipping containers delivered by tow trucks is easy but since you moved it the truck may not pick it up as it is not when it was placed(i know this as i use to deliver 20 footers)
    i have put a container in one spot and customer moved it and i could not access it to remove it and they had to pay for a crane to remove it and they were not happy about it as it cost $3k+

    • @MadMatt4WD

      Once this is loaded the tiltray won't be able to pick it up and load it onto the semi for the next leg which is 1000Ks. I've always know i'd have to get a franna to move it the next step.

    Why don't people use shipping container modified tanks to store solar energy? For example, automating concentrated solar thermal power to pump water from the low tank to the high tank during sunny day and release water to drive electric generator and back to the low tank during the night.
    You can search "Burning Stuff With 2000ºF Solar Power!!" "DIY shipping container pool" "solar power water pump" and GREENPOWERSCIENCE for a lot of examples.
    Actually, potential energy of the tank themselves can also be used for generating electricity already. Of course, you need to use a lot pulleys or hydraulic jacks for that.

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 Před rokem +1

      Because the box style container is not designed as a water vessel which should be obvious. To learn more, study "pumped hydro" for real world successes at scale. Containers are great for getting views from people who don't know anything about containers but also don't bother looking seriously or they'd have no questions to ask.
