Malgus honestly would have been the perfect master for Vader. I truly think he would have pushed to help Vader reach his full potential, and the two would truly remake the galaxy. Unlike Sidious who only saw Vader as a tool. I also think that Vader wouldn't be inclined to betray Malgus, as the two would have an understanding of each other due to their similar situations and mindsets.

malgus is badass, but if we’re talking novels/comics vader he’s destroying malgus, this man tore open a rift in reality with his bare hands, he lifted the veil between the living and the dead, he survived an orbital bombardment, he’s pretty much done everything and people always seem to think vader is extremely vulnerable to force lightning, that’s not entirely true first off he’s been struck with it multiple times, but he can still fight on despite his suit being damaged for a decent while, palpatine’s lightning affects him so much bc he’s been stated and proven to have the most potent force lightning of all the sith (aside from the brother, but he’s not exactly a sith) second, it’s actually fairly easy to block force lightning, all you need is a lightsaber tbh, not to mention vader mastered the same technique yoda used to redirect force lightning, so really he’s not as vulnerable as people think he is

Vader most likely wouldn't use his lightsaber because the after effects of hitting lightsaber which was electrified by force lightning is a repulse of lightning, electrocuting both Malgus and himself. Instead he'd most likely exhibit the tactic of force deflect, deflecting the lightning with the whim of his hand forth.

I agree, they are very even, but ultimately, Sith are truly free in the Old Republic while the restraint and secretive nature of the Imperial Sith were a weakness which might give Malgus an advantage. Sidious nerfed the hell out of Vader so much that he's extremely vulnerable to force lightning, that and he doesn't have a proper functioning respiratory system, Malgus could wear him down with his aggression, speed, and force techniques.

I think if they fought, they would both definitely die, but Malgus has better augments and such. Though, since this Legends Vader has gone up against several high ranking Jedi Masters. Though, I think Malgus going toe to toe with Shan is also remarkable. Though, Malgus is an amazing strategist due to the fact he switches sides several times. Malgus was also able to strategize with the Mandalorians to destroy Coruscant and wipe out a good chunk of the many Jedi back then.

While no one can definitively prove the quality of the cybernetics, I think we can all agree that Malgus has better mobility and control over his own body than Vader. And, "A few platoons"? He had the entirety of the 501st Legion, not to mention the Coruscant Guard and the defense corps on world. Sure, doesn't look like a lot when the 501st are walking up the temple stairs but we know that more 501st poured into the temple as the battle went on. We have plenty of sources, most notably battlefront 2 (2005) "The 501st journal". Malgus only had a few Sith acolytes and warriors with him. If you watch the cinematic, you can see the sith getting bodied left and right, definitely not quality fighters. Despite that, I'd say Malgus and Vader had incredibly similar performance in their raids, respectively. They both killed the most skilled saber master present then proceeded to take out the more proficient fighters before taking out the weaker jedi. We also need to recognize that Malgus was not trying to "wipe out" the Jedi order, he was sending a message to the republic. It ultimately worked as the senate immediately questioned the Jedi's ability to protect them. In terms of the strategy debate, I don't really no what to say. I'd probably give that to Vader considering he was incharge of the 501st Legion during the Clone Wars and had to deal with lots of planning and battle strategy whereas Malgus basically just rushed into his fights hoping that brute force would win him the day.

Malgus has lightning and Vader's suit is vulnerable to it, a few precise attacks with it will leave Vader's suit severely damaged giving Malgus huge advantage.
Malgus with his strength and powerful strikes will wear his guard down and use lightning on him which will weaken him to the point where he is clearly finished
Malgus isn't limited like Vader. I'm not just talking about his cybernetics, I'm talking about his emotional limitations. In the early days of the sith empire, Malgus was limited by his emotional connection to his love interest. He knew that his lover was his weakness and that if he was to truly become a Sith and a conqueror he would need to "Break his chains" or his limitations. This would mean killing his lover. After killing the woman he loved he gained a level of focus that Vader could never conjure. Vader was always attached to Padme, he could never separate his old life from his current one. In some parts of Vaders mind, Anakin lived on. This is why Malgus will almost always beat Vader, he has complete control over the darkside. Whereas Vader is being controlled by the Darkside.
Well said and is pretty much my reasoning as to why malgus would win. They're the same in so many ways thousands of yrs apart but the difference was their approach. Very surprised that Vader didn't get a clear victory. That's refreshing. Malgus is my favorite Sith, hands down. 2 things Vader, most likely, has the advantage is his dueling and force power. Every other category, in my opinion, they are either equal or Malgus takes it.

He got to the point that he was literally known as "the False Emperor". The guy was one of the pillars of the Sith civil war. Its not like he was a random guy that just showed up and was killed. Malgus was very tall and heavily built, and only had a breathing valve of prosthetics, Vader was missing 50 percent of his body, and his strength was clearly less. And Malgus has more experience, he attacked the Jedi temple in 1 day in a frontal attack
Didn't Palpatine just order Anakin to seize the temple with a few platoons of clone troopers(501st) and himself. I must say that he executed almost everyone effortlessly without prior planning. Again Vader has shown to exhibit feats of running, walking and fighting without his prosthetics.

The Jedi order in the old republic were guarded by a war ready Jedi order with Jedi who had cybernetic implants and armor. Malgus did bring some sith warriors with him and a Mandalorian commando so that should be taken into consideration.

Considering that Malgus has a more aggressive fighting style and even outmatched more experienced jedi and Vader relies mostly on using his surroundings and it doesn't take a lot to disable his suit, I'd give it to Malgus.
Darth Vader in Legends could be a great threat for Master Yoda. The same thing with Darth Malgus. Well, if Darth Vader gets hatred enough, then he would destroy Darth Malgus. If Darth Malgus use his "mini Force storms" (I don't remember the name of the Force abillity), then Malgus could win with extreme diff or can go other way. If you are using Oneness Malgus, then Vader can't do nothing.

I think Malgus would win in combat, while Vader practiced alot and his mastery is impressive, Malgus ultimately lived in an era where it was constantly the strongest leads, so he has probably had a fair share of to the death battles throughout his life and such, Vader has experience in the jedi ways and fighting a few strong contenders but not too many astounding duelists that were full on from the get go, Dooku was underestimating but also going easy at first, and Windu was taken out by surprise. I feel Malgus would win due to that experience and I know some claim Vader has beaten Obiwan, but he was slower but also didn't seem like his goal was winning

Source for Vader mastering all 7 forms of lightsaber combat? Malgus was written to essentially be an Old Republic Vader, so they'd be similar in many ways. That being said, Malgus is an unstoppable bulldozer in fights and will overpower any opposition through brute force; I would personally favor Malgus slightly over Vader; he wins 6/10 times, in my opinion.
I am sorry but Malgus Fodder hasn't shown feats of ripping reality with his bare hands or causing wide planet earthquakes simply once more with his bare hands. Vader most likely wouldn't use his lightsaber because the after effects of hitting lightsaber which was electrified by force lightning is a repulse of lightning, electrocuting both Malgus and himself. Instead he'd most likely exhibit the tactic of force deflect, deflecting the lightning with the whim of his hand forth.

I agree, they are very even, but ultimately, Sith are truly free in the Old Republic while the restraint and secretive nature of the Imperial Sith were a weakness which might give Malgus an advantage.

@@drsizla1946 Malgus was no where near as limited as Vader was in terms of augmentation. While no one can definitively prove the quality of the cybernetics, I think we can all agree that Malgus has better mobility and control over his own body than Vader.
And, "A few platoons"? He had the entirety of the 501st Legion, not to mention the Coruscant Guard and the defense corps on world. Sure, doesn't look like a lot when the 501st are walking up the temple stairs but we know that more 501st poured into the temple as the battle went on. We have plenty of sources, most notably battlefront 2 (2005) "The 501st journal".
Malgus only had a few Sith acolytes and warriors with him. If you watch the cinematic, you can see the sith getting bodied left and right, definitely not quality fighters. Despite that, I'd say Malgus and Vader had incredibly similar performance in their raids, respectively. They both killed the most skilled saber master present then proceeded to take out the more proficient fighters before taking out the weaker jedi.
We also need to recognize that Malgus was not trying to "wipe out" the Jedi order, he was sending a message to the republic. It ultimately worked as the senate immediately questioned the Jedi's ability to protect them.
In terms of the strategy debate, I don't really no what to say. I'd probably give that to Vader considering he was incharge of the 501st Legion during the Clone Wars and had to deal with lots of planning and battle strategy whereas Malgus basically just rushed into his fights hoping that brute force would win him the day.

Malgus isn't limited like Vader. I'm not just talking about his cybernetics, I'm talking about his emotional limitations.
In the early days of the sith empire, Malgus was limited by his emotional connection to his love interest. He knew that his lover was his weakness and that if he was to truly become a Sith and a conqueror he would need to "Break his chains" or his limitations. This would mean killing his lover.
After killing the woman he loved he gained a level of focus that Vader could never conjure. Vader was always attached to Padme, he could never separate his old life from his current one. In some parts of Vaders mind, Anakin lived on. This is why Malgus will almost always beat Vader, he has complete control over the darkside. Whereas Vader is being controlled by the Darkside.
Well said and is pretty much my reasoning as to why malgus would win. They're the same in so many ways thousands of yrs apart but the difference was their approach. Malgus embraced her death and devoted himself the dark side and the sith, whereas vader hated himself and devoted himself to his own pain which did make him powerful but capped his overall potential as a sith massively

Very surprised that Vader didn't get a clear victory. That's refreshing. Malgus is my favorite Sith, hands down. 2 things Vader, most likely, has the advantage is his dueling and force power. Every other category, in my opinion, they are either equal or Malgus takes it.

Malgus was very tall and heavily built, and only had a breathing valve of prosthetics, Vader was missing 50 percent of his body, and his strength was clearly less. And Malgus has more experience, he attacked the Jedi temple in 1 day in a frontal attack
Didn't Palpatine just order Anakin to seize the temple with a few platoons of clone troopers(501st) and himself. I must say that he executed almost everyone effortlessly without prior planning. Again Vader has shown to exhibit feats of running, walking and fighting without his prosthetics.

I think Malgus would win in combat, while Vader practiced alot and his mastery is impressive, Malgus ultimately lived in an era where it was constantly the strongest leads, so he has probably had a fair share of to the death battles throughout his life and such, Vader has experience in the jedi ways and fighting a few strong contenders but not too many astounding duelists that were full on from the get go, Dooku was underestimating but also going easy at first, and Windu was taken out by surprise.
I feel Malgus would win due to that experience and I know some claim Vader has beaten Obiwan, but he was slower but also didn't seem like his goal was winning

Source for Vader mastering all 7 forms of lightsaber combat? Malgus was written to essentially be an Old Republic Vader, so they'd be similar in many ways. That being said, Malgus is an unstoppable bulldozer in fights and will overpower any opposition through brute force; I would personally favor Malgus slightly over Vader; he wins 6/10 times, in my opinion.

I am sorry but Malgus Fodder hasn't shown feats of ripping reality with his bare hands or causing wide planet earthquakes simply once more with his bare hands. Speed goes to Vader he speedblitzed jedi easily, Jedi masters included. He also tanked the equivelant of the death stars energy ten fold and barely flinched, victory for Vader is almost instant.
