I've been comparing the new Insta360 Ace Pro to the GoPro Hero 11 and 12. The Hero 11 and 12 are nearly identical apart from the addition of HDR video in the Hero 12, never the less I did a full comparison of using both cameras.
The Ace Pro is Insta360's first full action camera and it comes with some pretty interesting features. AI Highlights, a 1/1.3" sensor, Purevideo Mode for low light shooting and an AI prompt editor.
Can these features knock GoPro off the throne of action cameras or are they just gimmicks? Let's find out!

Great video. I have a GoPro 11 which is a hot buttered from ultra running and being dropped. Does the insta have a video editing system ?
Hi, I noticed you mentioned how the goproś advantage is it can shoot in 8.7 and easily switch the footage between wide and vertical in post edit. I thought the ace pro freeframe mode allows the same thing in its own version of easily editing to vertical in post ?
Which is best for doing interview or just filming eg don't want fish eye lens on

Great video. Hope that GoPro offers a Pc option for their Quik software soon. I got a great price on a refurb (I think it was just a store return) on a GoPro Hero 11 and I think that it was a good buy
At 8.46 the insta360 footage wobbles compared to the gopro, is this something in the processing or just been missed?

I have the Ace Pro, Pocket 3, and the Hero12. The Ace Pro is not nearly as good as the Pocket 3 at night. If I am holding the Ace Pro very still, the video is quite good. But even at Pro Video, the Ace Pro causes the light sources to shake in the distance when I am walking with the Ace Pro attached to the GoPro Volta. I wasn't even walking very fast. I'm sure it will do well with a gimbal, but if that's the case, it defeats the purpose of buying it over the Pocket 3 which has amazing low light video by the way
doesn't the pocket 3 have a bigger sensor?
On dry land in a moderate environment the pocket 3 wins. But as soon as you’re near water or high winds, the pocket 3 will become a very expensive paperweight
I bought both the ace pro excels in low light but the go pro on overall situations better options with camera details

The Ace Pro looked wobbly at 5:43 while you were walking compared to the GoPro. The difference was significant, and I'm surprised the Ace Pro was so bad in that regard. And at 8:42, the Ace Pro image is super slushy looking while you're moving. Considering how well they are doing some things, and the fact that they are an action (movement company) based on their other cameras, I am very disappointed in this. Seems like this Ace Pro is best used in still or slow situations, especially in low light.
There is wobble image with the insta360 while your walking. When your paying and staying still I don't see it.
I wonder which level of stabilisation on the ace pro is causing this
only thing is if you damage either one then gopro is $100 away from replacement where insta360 makes you buy a new one right? if you do heavy action stuff thats a dealbreaker

My cons about the Ace pro are :
- No 10-bit
- No lens cover
- bulkier
- price
ACE PRO seems to be great for all around mostly for vlogging.
My question is, if one uses insta360 one rs 1"inch mod is it really worth the upgrade ?
I also think the AI thing is useless.
Depends what you are doing. I used the One RS 1" for a long time and for me a downside is that it does tend to blow out the sky if going in to the sun. The Ace Pro handles that the best of any action cam.
@@michaelbyrne8238 good point, I guess with the newer processors and better lens. Inta360 needs to make a new One RS 360.
GoPro's daytime images are way oversharpen and have this oil painting feel to be taken seriously. I'll still give the win to the Acepro for daytime video.
That's only if you shoot in 4K, in 5.3K the oil painting effect is gone

I’ve looked at a lot of these videos and to my eye it looks like the GoPro edges out the ace pro in good light but in all other light, and especially low light, the Ace Pro is better.

My GoPro 9 has issues for sure but still does the job and takes killer photos…

Get GOPRO LABS and you have perfect low light / Get Gimbal and there we go... Both good cameras.

Unfortunate no lens guard cap for the ace pro.
Simple solution, a good ND UV filter, it's already available. I'll use that to get the innovative features of this camera. Low light shooting and the zoom is both of the most requested features of an actioncam for years. I have all the brands of actioncams and this is a 'fresh' product maybe it will wake up the housebrand who's been hibernating for years. Agreed, this is not for everyone and people say this is not for action, search for videos of this camera, we are seeing more and more now, ones on Kayaks, on mountain bikes and a recent one where someone took this through a touch mudder race and it survived just fine. We are quick to discredit a newcomer for small issues like this but ignore the overall innovative/better features. I bet you if the label on this camera said GoPro, everyone would be going oouuu aahhhh the prefect camera. As for your lens guard, let us not forget earlier versions of GoPro and the GoPro 8, they sold like hotcakes, I know, I use to sell them lol. If I had a second choice, it would be hands down DJI, I love my DJI's, one of the best innovative companies especially with their drones. Unfortunately they completely failed with the Action 2, which btw was classified as an action cam and very popular and no lens guard. And no, I don't work for Insta360 lol tbh, I think we will see more and more of this camera, this 8K has a lot of potential, it's in it's early phases right now, the hardware is there. Ace Pro2 WILL be the GoPro/DJI killer I think.
Oh I'm sure someone will say it doesn't have 10 bit, go read up on 10 bit, unless you're doing a lot of color post editing with a gaming computer, yes, 10 bit will benefit, but for the average user they can't tell the difference. If you look at the 4k footage in terms of res and color, all three are almost identical with subtle color differences. It's the same argument with people who said who needs 8K, we'll never use it, that's what we said about 4K back in the day. The 8K tested on this even at 24 frames is just stunning against GP and DJI, if you're worried about the 24 frames, get Topaz and upconvert it, quality is still there. When insta360 came out with this, they weren't really thinking of 8K recording, it was actually designed for the Clarify Zoom, 8K recording wasn't even activated for their pretesters and was later activated on the final release and I know we will see this feature get better in future firmware, the hardware is already there. Something also no reviewer has mentioned, the Ace Pro does screen shots during video recording, do you know that it actually uses the 8k sensor which gives the 48 megapixel quality to do the screen capture? It doesn't take a screen cap of the recorded video, it actually uses a separate sensor to take a true still capture during video recording why the "screen caps" resolution is 10x better then that of GoPro or DJI, that feature I use quite often when I'm diving. The hardware in this is crazy, yes, it will need some refinement as all cameras do at launch.

GoPro stabilization is still much better..i own both Ace Pro and Hero 11...border sharpness is much better in GoPro
Yes, gopro in bright conditions is slightly better with stab, but once that light gets darker, this is where DJI and Ace will shine, Ace just takes this further when there's no light, the quality is very good and usable unlike it's competitor. This is not the camera for everyone but its critical the low light shooting market.. like me ;)
Simple, get gimbal !!!
I really like the gopro because a new front lens is just 20 euro and the insta has no option for that (except for the first year if you pay for the shipping)

Insta360 ace pro is highly overrated. This is not an action camera, but a camera for young bloggers, which still needs to be activated in the application in order to use it. Even with Leica, Insta does not outperform GP12 in normal lighting.
