In this Shine guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this massive hit from Collective Soul note-for-note.
The tuning for the main guitar part is Drop C# tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, C# G# C# F# A# D#. There is a second rhythm guitar part, played by singer Ed Roland that is in Eb standard tuning, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or if your tuner reads the chromatic notes as sharps instead of flats, the tuning notes will be D# G# C# F# A# D#.
if you are playing "Shine" in just a one guitar band, you can get away with sounding pretty close to the original recording with just the main guitar part played in Drop C#.
We will start with that instantly recognizable opening guitar riff and go through each section of the song from there.
I will also be covering Ross Childress' killer guitar solo note-for-note. This is a challenging solo with everything from blues based double-stop licks to shreddy legato phrases. Fun stuff to play!

Carl is hands down gives the most accurate lessons to the live/original versions of songs I've ever found. This album is killer and this was instantly one of my favorites songs. I saw them in a small club in my hometown on that tour and they are the reason I started wearing earplugs.

This song randomly popped into my head this last weekend. I started watching the show Beef on Netflix the same day and the song started playing in one of the scenes. I mentioned to my girlfriend how strange of a coincidence that was. Now a couple days later this pops up. I guess the universe decided this song is relevant to my brain matter this week. I will now learn to play it and accept that this is the reason for it all.

When you switch from that C chord to the G while tuned to drop D you could just move your finger from the 3rd fret to the 2nd fret to use that as the G and keep the top string muted it will work because that note is part of the G chord anyway on the 5th string 2nd fret just don't hit the 6th string
