This was so helpfullll!!! I just uploaded my webcomic on webtoon and was trying to find ways to get it more subscribers and views it’s been working a lot better since I changed the upload date :D My comic called The Arcana btw
For the four people who disliked this, what's wrong with you??? These are some great simple tips, I know I'll use, that I haven't heard anyone else talk about. Switching up your genres? Being mindful of trends and posting times and changing that when it runs dry? We're only really told about the thumbnail and to post regularly. Thank you so much for this!
For help with posting often, I highly recommend not posting your webtoon episodes right after you finish them and save a few episodes for buffers! I know it's tempting to upload right when the episode is completed but save a few! It's nice to have a few episodes completed so you can schedule them for steady upload schedule, and even to have some ready for weeks when you get busy and can't finish comic work as easily. When I was a Canvas creator, I had an unsteady freelance work schedule outside of my comic so I'd make batches of 5 episodes and then post when I finished the 5th one. Then I'd get to working on the next 5 while not having to worry about uploading. I'm currently an Original creator and I have a 10-13 week buffer in case something ever happens so I'm not scrambling or needing to go on hiatus to catch up. Find what works with your life but having a few saved will help keep a steady upload schedule!
Lauren, that's fantastic advice. When my webcomic had twice-weekly updates it saw the most growth. This year has completely thrown off my schedule and thankfully my readers have been patient with me.
@@SteveConleyArt Yeah, keeping a steady pace is hard even if you produce fulltime. Life and other things always happen! Buffers are hard to set up but they’re helpful in case of emergencies. And yeah steady uploads are super helpful with engagement if you can manage it but only at the pace you can realistically go. Great video btw!
This was helpful advice! Thank you. I'm launching my graphic novel series online this week called COSMIC ORIGINEES. Volume 1 is the first issue of many to come! To those who read it will NOT be disappointed. Again, thank you for this advice! Bless
Thank you so much for the tips, this was a very helpful video!! I was so surprised though to see the thumbnail for my webcomic when you pulled up the genre page at 2:36! (Mine's 'Lemon', the third row down, on the far right)
coming back to this video a second time, only to memorize the tips once more. I came back to this the first time i tried to make a comic, and I never got far. And now? I have a 5 episode buffer, and i plan to start posting my comic King of Color within this week! thank you for being a part of that journey!
Thanks so much! I think your series thumbnail looks great! Love the colors! And you've got 1.8k subscribers after just 4 episodes! That's fantastic! Nicely done!
Great job! Thanks for the tips, I didn't know about the "all" section in canvas and I definetly didn't know about the last updated webtoons being shown at the top, really useful!
Thank you so much !!! I actually struggled to only pick 2 genres for my comic cause it can touch different themes now I know I can change the genres accordingly to the story's direction

Thank you so much for these helpful tips!! My webtoon is Tetrachromacy, and it's about a world where people are ranked by the colors they see. T__T almost 300 subs yay
Hey, what do you know? It's rare for me to hear actual good tips that I haven't already heard before, and this video was really insightful! I'll definitely try to take these into account in continuing my current webtoon! (Which is called Motley Crew, btw) Also, I love the editing!
This is very helpful. Im on my 20th panel and i plan to post it when i get to 90th. But these advices are gold. Im glad it randomly popped on my YT feeds.
I have a comic on webtoon called Elemental Adventure. Problem I was facing is time and how I'll run the story. Luckily I have an idea's for the story and the right time thansk to this video
Thank you so much for these tips! They're quite handy. I had launched my first webcomic: Nebula Beings. I had been slowly redrawing older episodes since I wanted to make a good first-impression.
A couple of years ago I saw a story about an established web comics guy that actually used Microsoft Paint. His art was really good. I guess he found a way to work around the limitations in the app.
Or alternatively, making a comment on a video like this XD On a serious note, I've never thought about doing the time change thing that way! _Though, procrastination will probably make this moot for me._
I'm planning on my own. I'm currently embellishing the plot and also researching cultures because it's a worldwide setting and I wanted to include diversity without some details offending people.
This was really helpful! I'm going to start experimenting with posting times once I see my well of new subscribers dry up for my current. one. (At the moment, I'm still picking up a few subs with each post.) The one thing which I slightly disagree with is about posting frequency and episode length. Yes, you want to post more often rather than less, to get on the top of those lists; but it's worth considering genre and audience reading preferences as well. I've had a couple of my readers approach me to say they love my comic, but they really wish I'd post once every two weeks, so I can double the length of the episodes. They want to be immersed in the tone of the story, and single-page updates just aren't able to provide that for them. (My comic is a sci-fi/fantasy/action.) I've noticed I tend to enjoy medium-length episodes far more as a reader as well.
Thanks, Kaydreamer! I very much respect that choice about longer episodes - the Webtoon culture definitely favors that approach. If I were a faster cartoonist, I'd produce longer episodes for sure. :D
Currently, I have been using the second tip and will definitely experiment more with the first and third tips! I agree that when art evolves, so should your series thumbnails. I really appreciate the advice! My webcomic is Scarf Girl which is a drama/school story!
@@krismanibrahim4632 so far I have updated my thumbnail and summary for my series, Scarf Girl, and I am doing a little bit of experimentation with time. I think as I work to make more buffer episodes this will be easier to experiment with and I have already selected two genres which I am considering changing as my story develops. The results of this have not made any significant change so far. However, I did add my comic-persona at the end of the comic with a comment about the episode which increased some conversation in the comment section and more engagement with the comic as a whole.
Man, thanks for letting me know all this about webtoons. Holy bejeesus I think I'll continue to upload there, but I'll try my luck on other platforms too.
Amazing advice!!! I was about to go start my magnum opus comic, but I think it's best that I start with a smaller comic idea that I have, and I will try all your advice out! Thank you so much for sharing your experiences 🥰
This just appeared in my recommended as I am currently working on the skeleton and art of my webtoon while it's on hiatus lol Super helpful! I'll be sure to use these tips once my comic Unbelievably Undead starts back up again around Jan-Feb next year :D
Man getting paid to do what you love sounds amazing! I’ve been working on my story Blood of Eve on webtoons for years and only recently had the confidence to publish it!
Thank you for the tips!! I started a while ago I am still new at digital art and my genre is comedy so it is harder to get any attention. I will definitely try these. Btw my webtoon is called Life Of A teenager if anyone is interested.
Thanks, Dido! Good luck with your comic! You're right about the Comedy genre, there are so many comedy webcomics that you can get pushed off that Genre page pretty quickly.
Thank you for the tips! It was really helpful and i learned a lot especially that posting a certain time actually matters. My webtoon is called animal wizard. Its a animal and supernatural genre.
Glad it was helpful! That's a great name for a webcomic! I like your series thumbnail and the art style - it's feels like a picture book! I look forward to reading it!
I guess the same applies to CZcams. Step 1 & 2, yeah pretty much. Step 3, it depends on what you 'want' to do and how much time it takes you to actually finish it. Step 4, it's debatable, some people don't like having too many videos on their feed, but others do and then, it's dependent on step 3. CZcams is so finicky, my goodness. (But, these are good steps for webtoon, most specifically step 1 & 4. Since step 2 is based if you have an "interesting" story whereas step 3 is if you want a challenge.)
Woah you are right! I seem to notice that some people who post more often get more views even if it is only 3 panels! I’m subbing I am taking all the tips
I gave up on webtoons last year. It was a lot of work reformatting the comic and I was barely getting any comments, subs and likes. It's weird because it worked pretty good in the beginning. I could start posting my pages there again on a different time slot. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks Emmanuel. It took me a long time to get any traction on Webtoon - figuring out these tips really seemed to help. One of the most common questions I get about Webtoon is "Why Webtoon?" That may have to be its own video.
I just have a small comic called Clover and Nugget, and I've tried a few of the suggestions you mentioned like changing up cover art etc, but I never really thought about changing up the specific times and testing those waters. So thank you!
Philip, hi! I checked out Clover and Nugget and the cover art is adorable! I've subscribed! Another recommendation regarding Genre (which I didn't have time to mention because I felt the video was already getting a bit too long), is that you should consider including at least one of the main Genres (Comedy, Fantasy, Romance, Slice of Life, Sci-Fi, Drama, Action, or Superhero). The two Genres you've selected (Animals and Heartwarming) are initially hidden from view under "Others.' If you choose, say, Comedy and Animals, you'll get in front of a lot more people. Definitely something I'd suggest trying.
@@SteveConleyArt Thanks Steve so much for checking my comic out! That's a great suggestion about the genre's I'll definitely give a try! I'm very glad I ran across your video, believe me I've watched quite a few and read a lot of articles, but your experience and the simplicity of your video really broke it down nicely. So thank you :)
This was a great video! I enjoyed your style and your overall positivity. It’s quite infectious. I’ve been using webtoons for at least 2 years as a mirror and through slow organic growth I’ve almost gained 300 subscribers! Hope to implement the tips you give to help me. Thanks again!
@@SteveConleyArt of course! I’ve almost finished development of Chapter 4 (which is almost 50 pages!) the buffer should provide enough material to experiment with upload schedules. I had previous done a twice a week upload on Wednesday and Saturday, but after your video, I’m considering changing the days.
This is the most helpful video I've found about webtoon canvas. Everyone else normally speaks about what to put in your comic which is okay but this is a great for just promoting yourself and explaining the system nicely.
Thank you for the tips! They were really helpful- I've just published the first episodes of mine- it's called Reaverburn and it's an action/fantasy. i really hope it's received well, i'm super nervous!!
This was a great video. You gave advice that I hadn't heard before (I was not expecting that.) I'm totally going to try changing the upload time for my webtoon. I've been consistent in up loading every week on the same day and about the same time, but I'd like to experiment now. I went over to your webtoon to check it out. I love it! Very funny! I subscribed and gave it a 10 star. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this video.
Thanks for making this video. It inspired me to run experiments with Dragonrider's Dance. I was posting at 6am every Tuesday and Thursday for about a year, but I think I'm gonna change that to Monday and Wednesday evening and just see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for the kind words, Ashley! I really hope the video helps. I checked out your webcomic and I really like the series thumbnail/cover. I look forward to reading it! Congrats on 500+ subscribers!
@@SteveConleyArt Gotta say. This is a major "Senpai Noticed Me" moment. XD Thank you!!! Also, I discovered your webcomic only a month ago. We have a lot of similar elements going on, so please don't think I took your ideas. XD
The last tip about 'posting often' really gave me food for thought. How you were saying with the 'long scrolls', that's something I really liked about webtoons and wanted to incorporate myself. So i do have really long episodes that I post weekly, but they take so much time that I've gradually ran out of buffer. In between chapters I'm able to catch back up, but the chapters themselves are gonna start getting longer as well. I might be able to make them shorter but post twice a week rather than the once? Idk, I'm just commenting my thoughts. If you had feedback that would be helpful, the comic itself is called Dark Zone (drama/sci-fi): www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/dark-zone/list?title_no=483773
Thank you for the tips, it's really helpful. i'm currently reading a comic on webtoon which title is no is NO. I talked with the illustrator(her psuedo is KuruLife) and she said that people were intentionally rating her comic one star and sending her racial slurs because she's black. Please go support her and give her a higher rating, she is talented and deserves to know it !
Thank you for these wonderful tips! I am also working on a webtoon! It's a romance scifi called Seastar Crossed Lovers! Uploading weekly really does help! Since I'm in school right now, it helps to post a short chapter and get views and some subscribers, instead of monthly
My comic is slowly gaining traction despite only posting biweekly. I dont have the time to make enough pages to post weekly due to my job. But I don't mind the trade off
This is really helpful! I didn't know a second genre would add benefits, but I'm glad I do now. I just started working on my Webtoon, so it's not ready to be posted yet, but this is still very informative.
Brian, I started graphing how long each post appeared on each Genre front page and found that I could, after it dropped off the Comedy front page, switch the comic's genres to a less popular genre and the comic would instantly appear in reverse-chronological order in the new Genre section. In the end, I don't think it would result in more readers since Genre is really about reader expectations - likely the subject of another video.
@@SteveConleyArt Does it? Cause I'm hitting dry wells on all social media targets and I'm watching video, reading blogs, talking to random strangers, and I keep hitting dead air. I'll try your tips...but I'm pessimistic ;)
Reddit kills me, I get a few followers by BUYING priority on Instragram, I post on Facebook, I've tried Webtoons. EVEN if I was the WORST webcomic in the world I still think I'd get more views. Honestly the best traffic I ever got over the course of the last 3 years was Project Wonderful. I'm still plodding along. Maybe someday.
These tips are really helpful, thank you! I guess a problem of mine is that my cover photo isn‘t really attracting enough? So I‘ll maybe change it! (My webtoon is called „Loved One“ on webtoon)
Thank you for these tips! This addressed my biggest concern actually. I’m preparing about 50 panels of comics in advance before I officially launch my webtoon, but I kept wondering if multiple updates of shorter pages or one big update would be better. I dream of becoming a webtoons original, but you’re right, Canvas operates on different rules of new and small creators.
Im doing something right and wrong since im being promoted on the webtoon latam page but I still would like to be promoted on the English version so I'm going to do what you say here! I agree that you def need an interesting thumbnail, I used to have a really boring one that didn't really say much so I changed mine I still want to do an better one so get more attention, anyway good vid! Thanks for the tips!
Thank you very much for your insights! I was actually thinking about these recently and it is good to know that I'm likely right! Have a very nice day!
*cracks fingers* Aight, my webcomic is The Last Dimension, and these are my advices: 1. After your experimenting, have a consistent schedule and time of upload, and update at least every 2 weeks, else the algorythm may kick your comic back to the bottom in popularity even if you're doing well. 2. Although short updates can catch the staff's attention, the webtoons audience is already used to seeing long updates and will appreciate a comic more if they have 35+ panels each update (at least in genres like fantasy, action, sci-fi-- you know, not comedy. 3. Best time in my opinion to upload a webcomic is any day right after 9pm EST. The reason being that original webcomics update at this time, and thus people flock in for new content. Also, your subscribers may check the app at this time and will get the notification of your update, hence keeping a consistent reader base. 4. Keep extra content to a minimum. Thank you pages, fanart features, behind the scenes episodes are awesome and well appreciated, but don't ever let them hinder the pace of the story. Readers get very disappointed after you throw one of these right after a cliffhanger. 5. Contacts. Go in social media and find other people doing webcomics. Share audiences and experiences, post previews of your episodes on twitter or instagram or whatever it is you use. Chances are most will not result in a direct growth of your audience, but many webtoon users may also use these sites and eventually find you interesting. Go follow the Webtoon CANVAS team on twitter, they do promos every now and then. 6. Don't get discouraged :'3 It sounds hard but really, don't give up! OuO/ Best of luck to everyone doing a webtoon :D
I was wondering if you could give me advice? I'm stuck between 2 webtoons right now. I have the outlines and first 3 chapters completed but I'm not sure which one to publish. I don't want to publish both because that would be too much work to update both. Which one should I keep working on?
@@spring7643 The one you feel more passionately about. The one you will be less likely to abandon. The one with the characters you like the most and want to draw over and over and OVER again. Great editing and the format of the video was very easy to follow. I honestly didn't think I'd want to watch the whole thing due to my own short attention span and the fact that it was longer than ten minutes, but you kept it interesting and to the point. Helpful tips too- I hadn't heard these before so I learned some new things. Thanks for sharing :) Edit: Also, I just thought of a question. Not sure if you'll see this, but if you do, do you think it's necessary to already have an audience before airing your first episode? Or, do you have any advice about using social media to advertise your comic? I had no social media or any kind of online presence four months ago, but made an account on Instagram recently because I heard that it's very difficult to gain readers without that.
Thanks so much, Dreaming Blue! As for your questions, I'm planning to address those very questions at length in a future video but, quickly, I'd say that social media *can* help but it's not as helpful as it once was and losing effectiveness every day. Social media is only a small piece of what we can do to get the word out.
Ah...well, too late for this knowledge now...I was planning to do a ten issue run...I'm up to episode 7 so I can't make use of the posting frequently advice
Thanks so much for the advice! I'll be sure to try out the different times method to see if anything changes. I've always had it set on the same time, but seeing how you mention that can change the statistics overtime, I gotta plan better. My comic's name is "Noir the Bloodborne" by MiniMichi, if there's anyone who wants to take a look. It's fantasy/drama with perhaps a hint of action but we don't have an option to apply a 3rd genre.

Lauren, that's fantastic advice. When my webcomic had twice-weekly updates it saw the most growth. This year has completely thrown off my schedule and thankfully my readers have been patient with me.
@@dariollanos It’s called Yuna & Kawachan!
Great advice! I’ve been torn on whether to post one “page” at a time or combine pages into longer chapters. You answered my question!
(Mine's 'Lemon', the third row down, on the far right)
I can't believe that you only have a little over 500 subscribers here but I'm glad to say I'm one of them now.
Thanks, Andres Rey! Like my webcomic, I figure it'll take years to build up an audience. I appreciate the encouragement and you subscribing!
coming back to this video a second time, only to memorize the tips once more. I came back to this the first time i tried to make a comic, and I never got far. And now? I have a 5 episode buffer, and i plan to start posting my comic King of Color within this week! thank you for being a part of that journey!
Seriously you're great! Most webcomic youtubers are boring to listen to and I felt like your video was 3 minutes long. Keep doing more!
Thanks so much, Lord Vane! I really appreciate it. :)
Hey, you're friends with my Dad, Chris Flick! I found this video really helpful, I actually started my first ever Webtoon Canvas, Cat Girl!

Great job! Thanks for the tips, I didn't know about the "all" section in canvas and I definetly didn't know about the last updated webtoons being shown at the top, really useful!

@@SteveConleyArt Thank you :>
A couple of years ago I saw a story about an established web comics guy that actually used Microsoft Paint. His art was really good. I guess he found a way to work around the limitations in the app.
I love that cartoonists have always been scrappy and making do with whatever tools and materials we can get our hands on.
Or alternatively, making a comment on a video like this XD
On a serious note, I've never thought about doing the time change thing that way! _Though, procrastination will probably make this moot for me._
Solid advice! I've haven't really tapped into the webtoon algorithm so this was really informative. Thank you!
Hi!!! Thank you for the advices and you're sweet :((
I hope you'll have more subscribers and readers! And stay safe as well!!
I'm planning on my own.
I'm currently embellishing the plot and also researching cultures because it's a worldwide setting and I wanted to include diversity without some details offending people.
This was really helpful! I'm going to start experimenting with posting times once I see my well of new subscribers dry up for my current. one. (At the moment, I'm still picking up a few subs with each post.)
The one thing which I slightly disagree with is about posting frequency and episode length.
Can you give us update after this two month?
Thanks so much! That's exactly the right approach IMO.
This just appeared in my recommended as I am currently working on the skeleton and art of my webtoon while it's on hiatus lol

I’m planning on creating and publishing a webtoon soon, thank you so much!! This video was beyond helpful
I hope they help! Let us know how it goes!
Thanks! I think this is the most insightful Webtoons video I've seen!
Wow I never thought about doihng any of these things haha. thank you for the tips!

If you had feedback that would be helpful, the comic itself is called Dark Zone (drama/sci-fi):

Well...I guess that I am already following these tips.
That's great! How is it working for you? Are you happy with the how your audience is growing?
I was wondering about genre switching, thanks !

Thank you for these tips! This addressed my biggest concern actually. I’m preparing about 50 panels of comics in advance before I officially launch my webtoon, but I kept wondering if multiple updates of shorter pages or one big update would be better. Thank you very much for your insights! I was actually thinking about these recently and it is good to know that I'm likely right! Have a very nice day!
*cracks fingers* Aight, my webcomic is The Last Dimension, and these are my advices:
OuO/
Best of luck to everyone doing a webtoon :D
Leaglem, I like your number 3 tip especially! I hadn't connected the my success/luck posting in the evenings to the Originals schedule. Nicely done!
Great video Steve! Thank you!

Thanks for sharing :)
Edit: Also, I just thought of a question.
