    Back when I first started webtooning, I looked up so many tutorials and got so lost. This is SO helpful and so well organized. So much good information I had no idea about, even though I’ve been webtooning for a year now. Fantastic work. I just had to check out your comic- loving it so far. liked and subbed 👍 keep up the good work

    On the subject of merging the vector layers before coloring... if you don't want to do that cuz you still want all your lines in different layers, just plop all the vector layers into a new folder, then make the folder the Reference layer.

      Hey there, I'm the Environment Artist for "The Gentleman Panda": There are a few ways to do that. One of the best methods in general is to use a time investment workflow by building a library of assets slowly over time. One option is to take photos of real life locations/objects and do a "photobash" in a program like photoshop. Aerrow did a photobash for a few of her illustrations such as this video: (czcams.com/video/uUg7W-vL5JU/video.html); use this method and build sets of re-useable backgrounds for your story. You can get away with alot of reusing assets before it breaks the audience out of their immersion in the story. Second option is to build 3D backgrounds. The trick here is to make sure it's not 'bad 3d' assets that look like junk. It doesn't need to be photoreal stuff (infact stylized assets tend to look better). But just having some 3D stuff as reference for perspective drawing can be insanely helpful. We tend to take this a bit further, where we are building full blown scenes/environments for Swords and Roses and rendering out the materials/textures with full 3D lighting. Then Aerrow comes in after the fact and cleans up with color correction in post. Here is a decent example: (www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/swords-and-roses/ep-11-finding-new-bearings-part-1/viewer?title_no=593163&episode_no=18)

    A way to do SAI/ Clip Studio-like line controlling on paper is draw dots, ink 1st with a flat thin pen like micron, then add thickness later with G-pen and you saved time re-doing lines.

    God thank you sooo much. I’ve drawn soooo many comics but I’ve never gone digital and I really want to make it a goal to publish a graphic novel next year even if I just self publish for myself and moving into the digital era is sooooo scary for me. I just got a drawing tablet and read about the amazing presets for graphic novels in this software but oh my is it overwhelming with zero previous knowledge and watching this really showed me how I can cut a lot of corners with my novel. Not to mention it has a lot of robots and that can be tedious and I can see how this’ll speed me up. I also read u can use 3d images for backdrops and make it looked ink which would be nice but still learning. Anyway, point being: u are the only video that talked to me like I truly had no knowledge. Most videos I can’t even keep up and I just feel overwhelmed haha

    I did a similar method with the heads, only I turned it into a brush that spits out a vertical row of 7 heads with the middle head being a straight camera angle and the 3 levels above and below.
    I'd like to see this method catch on so better artist can build better sets that I can then alter into my style and use since my set is still flawed on a few angles.
    Ive tried using 3d models to help me understand the head angles more but it doesn't look very good. There's almost a hidden art of translating angles into manga style so that it reads better. A big challenge was getting the jawline stylized in a way that is pleasing in worm eye views.

    for the vector lines, will you be able to color it afterward or do you have to pick which color you want to use from the beginning?

    • @TheGentlemanPanda
      @TheGentlemanPanda  Před rokem

      You can pick colors and flat an image like normal. The vector lines are special in that they project the line work from the layer above to the one below it as "reference". Then when you use the FILL tool for color, it fills the canvas based on the vector linework from the separate layer that was marked as 'reference'. Kind of like cutting out a stencil and then spray painting a wall. (where the stencil in this example is the line-art and the spray paint is the fill colors for the flats)
