  • G'day, mates! How ya doin? So, I've been spending a bit of time out in the shed lately, trying my hand at some DIY. You know, I figured, why not? How hard could it be? Famous last words, right?
So, I thought I'd tackle the Aussie classic: building a bloody ute tray. Yeah, you know, something to throw your esky and a few tinnies in. Piece of cake, right? Wrong!
First off, I'm out there with me rusty tools, trying to cut straight lines. I swear, it's like trying to teach a kangaroo ballet - just not happening! And let's not even get started on measuring. I measured once, twice, thrice, and still ended up with a tray that looked like it was built by a wombat with a hangover!
Then there's the materials. I reckon I spent more time at Bunnings than I did actually building the thing. And let me tell you, trying to explain to the bloke there that I need 'em to withstand a herd of rampaging 'roos was a real hoot!
But you know what the best part is? Despite all the crooked cuts, wonky welds, and a few choice curse words that'd make a sailor blush, I finally got the first stage done. And you know what they say, mates? If it looks dodgy but it holds together, it's Aussie engineering at its finest!
So next time you see a ute with a wonky tray, just remember - it might've been built by a backyard legend like me. And if that's not true blue Aussie spirit, I don't know what is! Cheers, mates!

Let me know what you want to see on this tray? I've already got some juicy ideas that could potentially set it aside from other trays out there.
    Cheers guys!

Look really good mate but what happened to stick welding it?

I started stick welding it and didn't like the look of my welds so I switched back to mig, I haven't stick welded for years and wanted to give it a smack but decided I should try on something that's alittle less important for the welds to look decent. Thanks for watching!

Looks good enough. Your arc welds would have mess up and probably blown up the RHS. Mig is better for thinner gauges. Arc if only one is well versed with in regards to thinner gauges. The simpler you keep the tray the better as far as i think.

@@1977np Thanks mate! I appreciate the feedback and yeah, stick wasn't working for me so I switched to mig and as you said, worked alot better.
